Gapare is as good as Steven Adams at the same age. But he needs to play against kids his own age to continue to build his profile.

Holmgren is an interesting prospect but he would get snapped in half by some of the NBL big men, who aren't even that big by global standards.

Gapare doesn't need to play v kids. Just like Giddey or Daniels.

it looks like we should be chasing White dudes from Europe considering the leading MVP candidatures in the NBA seem to be white euro dudes!

Euro dudes are better off playing for their Euro clubs that they've come up through the ranks with (much more similar to football clubs there).

We should be taking more South American kids since they have few pathways.

Yeah, Argentina seem to struggle to put together decent basketball programs...

"we can keep signing Us high school kids who add very little....its not like they attract people to go to the games!"

That's not the NBL's intent. Just a bi-product. We watch (or not) anyway. The US are talking and watching NBL now.

The NBL is where imports ended up on their way out of the game or who were never going to get there. Now, it's a serious consideration for those on the rise.

No longer a retirement village. More like a school of hard ones.

I was keen to use that money to subsidise getting Aussies back from Europe. That might have got punters to games. Would have done nothing towards enhancing our status in world basketball, though.

Now, I would like Next Stars to continue and grow, and a new program to get Aussies back.

Dyson Daniels has a very promising future.
Remains to be seen if he goes pro or college.

Not sure how long the concept will continue, the rules are changed regularly already.

Can the Kings sign a replacement for Didi? Could Daniels suit up this season?

Daniels has been training with Melbourne every time he's home.
My bet is he goes there as a ns, I don’t think Baba will stay at United.

Gapare would be great as a backup to Abercrombie.

Those would be te only 2 03 born oceania next stars

04 proctor the following season.

We could see Daniels grow to 6'7 CG and Gapare to 6’10 CF

Curious why you say this?

Even if this wasn't a reach, this helps the clubs here how?

This was the situation well before Next Stars came along.

Agree. Next Stars added to the hype. Seems that all these seemingly irrelevant, expensive, out-of-the-box projects, all are adding value (deserves its own tax!), bit-by-bit, to the NBL product.

They're trying to create their own hype but are looking foolish.

Making the NBL a viable alternative to the college route is great. Making the NBL a draft and stash league is good too but it should have nothing to do with the NS program.

We won't see the likes of Ball and Hampton again anytime soon with G League becoming a more attractive and lucrative pathway.

We were lucky to see Didi into the second year of his deal.

Abolish next star as it stands and move to 3 imports with the 3rd import a draft and stash deal.

Any future rookie stars for example Daniels should just sign as regular rookies. Adding an extra roster spot hasn't improved the fortunes of Adelaide, Cairns and Illawarra.
All it does is keep spuds like Teys etc on rosters.

Aussie/nz ns, usually 1-2 per year. The rest draft n stash or Asian top level player

Draft and stash while calling them next stars is fine if they're younger Didi was 20 the year he was drafted.
Jessup shouldn't be a next star having played 4 years of college.

The NBL need to be more transparent about how next stars and selected and allocated.

Televise or stream a mini draft. If players don't want to go a particular team make them ineligible as next star. They would sign regular contract instead .

Don't let the same teams always get them e.g. Illawarra.

If Melb United manage to get Dyson Daniels as a next star we will know LK is playing favorites.

I would have thought the conspiracy theorists would be predicting that LK would push a Next Star to the JackJumpers.

Daniels at #16
King at #42

Gapare a top 20 pick surely if he was a ns.
