The only awkward thing about that result was TT and friends (Or should that be family) filming the game from the stands when asked not to. Flames then didn't run anything to not give TT any scout ahead of their week 1 clash next week. Imagine if someone had tried that at wally hagan, he would've lost his mind until they were shown the door.
Will we be able to watch games once they have finished? Or is it live only?
Cougars Jeremy Fletcher and Quintien Calder also caught secretly trying to film the flames game by the flames players on the bench. Fletcher had to be escorted out

Imagine that. A coach rocks up to scout a week before round one, let's pile on.
This is the most professional our league should ever be, and we are critical of coaches who are proactive.
If Flames want to waste a chance to get better because someone is watching that’s pathetic.
Maybe they should have turned up to one of the 8 million practice games Cockburn advertised, at least they didn’t charge at the door.
Who cares if they film? They still have to rock up and win next week.
Get a grip Firebug.

If you don't want someone to scout, don’t advertise your game.
Seriously lame.

TT & Friends must be bored on a sunday arvo. You were asked not to, you still did it. Shows the little respect you have for everyone else and why the level of hate towards you is far more bigger than that ego of yours. You overachieved winning one silver medal with three future australian players and have failed to do anything of note since as a coach. Everyone outside of your so called family looks forward to watching you continue to show the only amount of talent you have is limited to when talking yourself up to unsuspecting punters.

I've heard of coaches turning up to scout, diagram up plays and the like, nothing wrong with that
Secretly trying to film it, and then lying about it when you get caught, that’s different. And against league rules about filming in venues without permission

How is this any different to filming at a pre season blitz?

Sorry. Can you give the rule number that says no videoing?
If it was legal, why didn't Jeremy use a tripod, instead of disguising it between his legs?

The way Jeremy went about it doesn't mean it is illegal. What would Jeremy know
Anonymous

Maybe because he knew Rockingham would crack it over nothing? So it easier to be non confrontational
And why does Jeremy get escorted out when TT's assistant coach did it all through the women’s?
Rocko giving big talk but no one actually spoke to TT all night. Sat up the back with his assistants and didn’t speak to any rocko people.
Saw it from the other side of the court
Imagine charging to get into a scratch match, must be to pay for all their imports seeing as though their juniors get neglected
charge for scratch matches and charge $15 during the season aswell... $10 seems to be standard for everywhere else that i go?

How do we watch the live stream of games? Is it linked through the leagues website or clubs fb page?
Thanks and looking forward to the season!
Part of main court and toilet block behind scorers bench in Gero apparently was damaged.
NBL1 games can be viewed via the NBL1 website (select West Conference and find games>watch online) or via the NBL app (,which I believe takes you back to above)

Wolfpack to host the very first NBL1 West game, how fitting.
Any thoughts on the first round?
Any one watch the live streams? What did you think of the commentary teams?
Id put the joondalup games on mute. Boring as all hell. Sucked the life out of the game.

I watched about 3-4 games so far. I thought by and large the commentary was quite good. The Senators v Redbacks match commentary team I thought were exceptional with the background history they provided on many facets of each clubs history. They were almost all unbiased and objective. They did very well and how refreshing it is to have the live streams.
The teams performances..I will leave that for another post

Kalgoorlie commentators were excellent - Mike Excel had a great mix of professional comments and a bit of humour. Good to listen to.
Going to be a clear gap between top and bottom half of league this year
I think willo will have a huge jump this season in the mens. Williams looks to be something and well its nice to also have a competant coach
Good having a coach without his head up his butt stuck in the 90's.

Well done champ - just shoot it down just because you don't like it. How about embracing things and getting your club to do something different and try to improve the standard for a change.
Great effort for media exposure, too bad your juniors are terrible this season!
Know your lane!
sympathy for the persons who watched that post game presser, def cringe
Yeah the post presser fucking sucked, just like their commentary
How is it that joondalup as a club is now looped into the same tier as kalamunda and redbacks now, bloody TT has cockburn some how better than joondy as an assosciation
When they focus more on press conferences after nbl1 rather than junior development, that's how...
Impressed with the eagles women's squad. Will push for finals in 2022 if they keep the team together

NBL1-West Women Round 2 Preview
Friday 23rd
SLAMMERS v LAKESIDE
Both teams come into this fixture with a donut in the win column. Lakeside was very disappointing considering Isenbarger, Clarke and Knowles are all seasoned players. Shooting below 20%FG, committing 30 turnovers and being out-rebounded by more than 30 wont beat anyone.
This game will be tighter than we all think.
Lakeside by 3.
EAGLES v COUGARS
East Perth with what I consider an upset win over the Magic on their home court. Was the back to back too much for the veteran filled Magic? New Cougars Mathews (shooting 66% from 3) and Edwards (19 pts and 9 boards) pushed the new look Cougars to a home court win against a near full strength Flames.
Cougars by 15.
FLAMES v MAGIC
Burrows (40%FG), Ciabattoni (55%FG) and Boag (60%FG) almost got the W at the Courgar Den last week, however lack that star big with Garbin gone. Klasztorny scored a career high 29 points against the Slammers and backed it up with 12 pts (62%) and 12 boards in the loss to the Eagles. Boag with a big game of 14 pts and 20 boards against the Slammers and 11pts and 9 boards against the Eagles. Looking at the boxscore it looks like Klasztorny, Boag, Milo and Corke are very important to the Magic.
Flames by 12.
Saturday 24th
COUGARS v REDBACKS
Both teams with wins in round 1 with stars Edwards, Mathews and Dyer starring for their respective teams. Allen v Edwards should be a good matchup and go a long way to getting the win.
Cougars at home by 8.
HAWKS v WOLVES
First game for the loaded Hawks with WNBL players McKay & Burton and a returning Satie going up against Steindl, Parker-Williams and Land. These games are always played at a high intensity and this one will be no exception.
Hawks at home by 10.
Sunday 25th
SENATORS v HAWKS
Senators split round 1 with a loss to Perth and a win to Slammers away. Hawks having to back up after last night. MCH and Barr will need big games to overcome the Hawks.
Hawks by 6.
TIGERS v SUNS
Sharpe with 25pts & 12 boards supported by Gandini and Winter in the flogging of the Lightning last week. Jacobs, Ironmonger and Mansfield ins along with the returning Williams and Montroni should push the Tigers. Both teams look a little thin on the bench.
Suns by 13.
This lockdown think what positivity you can bring to the forum and to your local NBL1 team. Anyone on here is obviously a bball fan so let's be more positive on all things in WA basketball as there is a lot of good things going on.
If something needs improving then this forum could be a great forum to discuss and debate changes that could be made to make it better.
Lets lift WA bball up and make it great ... you can do it!!!
Lol - if the Liberals weren't even bigger clowns maybe someone else would be calling the shots.

Unfortunately the talent pool in our state politics has always been extremely shallow. Whoever wins we lose.
Whilst we are on the topic of politics, I cant remember in my lifetime a state government committing more funds to upgrade basketball stadiums and facilities than the current labour government
some of these stadiums have been lobbying for much needed funds to upgrade for decades and McGowan has been the one to commit
if your in the politics of basketball this is a good government for our game
Anoon
Years ago
We should wait and see what basketball gets from these commitments. The Liberals built Bendat and wasted $20mil to make themselves feel good. At the time BWA wanted a ten court "tin shed" but Barnett and Waldron wanted a shrine to liberalism. That $20mil would have gone a long way to help some other associations who generally struggle to find a decent facility to play in.
Looking like games will pick back up again on Saturday this weekend. Any predictions?

How many more weeks can we afford to lose before they decide to just can it? I highly doubt they'll be able to play next weekend to either now, possibly not the weekend after that.
Anonymous
Years ago
They won't can it.
Queensland hasn't even started yet.
koberulz
Years ago
Queensland presumably has a shorter season, then.
We're going to lose at least a month. Two weeks down already, zero chance we're playing this weekend, very slim chance we're playing next weekend, absent a specific exemption on masks, because they clearly want to do masks for two weeks after each case. McGowan even implied in his presser yesterday morning that masks might be an even longer-term thing than that, although that may have more exemptions for sports and such.
I don't remember how much breathing room we had between the end of the season and the national tournament, but I can't imagine it was that much.
koberulz
Years ago
Of course, completely canning everything isn't the only alternative, but it's going to shift from postponing games to redoing the schedule so each team plays each other team once instead of twice, same as last year. And then if you do that, can you keep it as NBL1 or do we have to have the return of the West Coast Classic?
This is really, really shitty timing.
They could also just increase the frequency of double headers then add games on the bye weekend.
Anonymous
Years ago
BWA pushing for exemptions and limited crowds (or none) in the short term. Good chance we proceed as planned this weekend (assuming no more cases)
Good for BWA, hope they can get government to use common sense.
It is completely reasonable to have exemptions for players and officials to not have to wear masks and crowds attend with masks on (assuming this outbreak remains under control). It was silly that this wasn't allowed last weekend (pre 2nd out break, even then they could have still played games but no crowd).
koberulz
Years ago
I find it difficult to believe they'll get an exemption this weekend if they couldn't get one last weekend, given that things have only got worse in the interim.
They do have more time to put together a plan to deal with it, but I really don't see the government coming to the party because if they do it for BWA then they have to look at all sorts of other potential exemptions for other sports and organisations.
and so they should, other indoor sports should have same exemptions, player no masks, spectators masks assuming outbreaks in control.
My question is what lengths do the players in NBL1 West comply with to make them basically exempt from wearing masks? Meaning most probably like the rest of the community they are traveling to work, wearing masks etc What makes the players who for the most part have to wear masks 24/7 like the rest of the community indoors exempt for 2 hours on a basketball court?
same as players and officials or outdoor sports which were exempt
Outdoor v Indoor, come on you're not that dopey surely
So when 8 footy or rugby players tackle, jump and pile on eachother outdoors panting, coughing and spraying saliva on everyone playing etc, covid knows not to pass on the virus. But when players post up on another, covid says yes lets pass virus on cos its indoors.
Enjoy lockdown 3.0, It's only a matter of time. I love how the entire state of WA isn't so smug anymore.
What a horrible human being you are to wish I'll on others. You know what they say about karma
Still no word if this weekend goes ahead. BWA would need an exemption for players to play without masks, right?
koberulz
Years ago
It depends. As of now, we only know what restrictions are in place until midnight Friday night/Saturday morning. It depends what restrictions are announced either today or tomorrow.
But yes, I expect masks will be necessary indoors and BWA will need an exemption. I also expect they won't get it.
Surely players can play with no masks if no spectators allowed? Heard that was a BWA compromise option proposed for this weekend. that surely is reasonable and no more risk than outdoor full contact sports which were allowed previously.
koberulz
Years ago
That's what they tried to get done for last weekend, but they were knocked back.
Anonymous
Years ago
Last week was knocked back because they were caught off guard with the re-instatement of masks indoors, and retrospectively tried to get it changed.
This week it has been significant lobbying in anticipation of an announcement. A much higher change of approval this week.
hopefully with a week to reconsider and no further community spread the government will use some common sense and let them play!
koberulz
Years ago
Not sure what to make of the fact that we haven't heard anything. It was early Thursday morning last week. Could mean little will change, could mean a much greater lifting of restrictions. Could mean McGowan still hasn't figured out how to organise a press conference.
could mean McGowan is suffering side effects from his Astra Zeneca vaccine
