The only awkward thing about that result was TT and friends (Or should that be family) filming the game from the stands when asked not to. Flames then didn't run anything to not give TT any scout ahead of their week 1 clash next week. Imagine if someone had tried that at wally hagan, he would've lost his mind until they were shown the door.

Imagine that. A coach rocks up to scout a week before round one, let's pile on.

This is the most professional our league should ever be, and we are critical of coaches who are proactive.

If Flames want to waste a chance to get better because someone is watching that’s pathetic.

Maybe they should have turned up to one of the 8 million practice games Cockburn advertised, at least they didn’t charge at the door.

Who cares if they film? They still have to rock up and win next week.

Get a grip Firebug.

TT & Friends must be bored on a sunday arvo. You were asked not to, you still did it. Shows the little respect you have for everyone else and why the level of hate towards you is far more bigger than that ego of yours. You overachieved winning one silver medal with three future australian players and have failed to do anything of note since as a coach. Everyone outside of your so called family looks forward to watching you continue to show the only amount of talent you have is limited to when talking yourself up to unsuspecting punters.

I've heard of coaches turning up to scout, diagram up plays and the like, nothing wrong with that

Secretly trying to film it, and then lying about it when you get caught, that’s different. And against league rules about filming in venues without permission

Maybe because he knew Rockingham would crack it over nothing? So it easier to be non confrontational

And why does Jeremy get escorted out when TT's assistant coach did it all through the women’s?

Rocko giving big talk but no one actually spoke to TT all night. Sat up the back with his assistants and didn’t speak to any rocko people.

Saw it from the other side of the court

I watched about 3-4 games so far. I thought by and large the commentary was quite good. The Senators v Redbacks match commentary team I thought were exceptional with the background history they provided on many facets of each clubs history. They were almost all unbiased and objective. They did very well and how refreshing it is to have the live streams.

NBL1-West Women Round 2 Preview

Friday 23rd
SLAMMERS v LAKESIDE
Both teams come into this fixture with a donut in the win column. Lakeside was very disappointing considering Isenbarger, Clarke and Knowles are all seasoned players. Shooting below 20%FG, committing 30 turnovers and being out-rebounded by more than 30 wont beat anyone.
This game will be tighter than we all think.
Lakeside by 3.

EAGLES v COUGARS
East Perth with what I consider an upset win over the Magic on their home court. Was the back to back too much for the veteran filled Magic? New Cougars Mathews (shooting 66% from 3) and Edwards (19 pts and 9 boards) pushed the new look Cougars to a home court win against a near full strength Flames.
Cougars by 15.

FLAMES v MAGIC
Burrows (40%FG), Ciabattoni (55%FG) and Boag (60%FG) almost got the W at the Courgar Den last week, however lack that star big with Garbin gone. Klasztorny scored a career high 29 points against the Slammers and backed it up with 12 pts (62%) and 12 boards in the loss to the Eagles. Boag with a big game of 14 pts and 20 boards against the Slammers and 11pts and 9 boards against the Eagles. Looking at the boxscore it looks like Klasztorny, Boag, Milo and Corke are very important to the Magic.
Flames by 12.

Saturday 24th
COUGARS v REDBACKS
Both teams with wins in round 1 with stars Edwards, Mathews and Dyer starring for their respective teams. Allen v Edwards should be a good matchup and go a long way to getting the win.
Cougars at home by 8.

HAWKS v WOLVES
First game for the loaded Hawks with WNBL players McKay & Burton and a returning Satie going up against Steindl, Parker-Williams and Land. These games are always played at a high intensity and this one will be no exception.
Hawks at home by 10.

Sunday 25th
SENATORS v HAWKS
Senators split round 1 with a loss to Perth and a win to Slammers away. Hawks having to back up after last night. MCH and Barr will need big games to overcome the Hawks.
Hawks by 6.

TIGERS v SUNS
Sharpe with 25pts & 12 boards supported by Gandini and Winter in the flogging of the Lightning last week. Jacobs, Ironmonger and Mansfield ins along with the returning Williams and Montroni should push the Tigers. Both teams look a little thin on the bench.
Suns by 13.

If something needs improving then this forum could be a great forum to discuss and debate changes that could be made to make it better.

Lets lift WA bball up and make it great ... you can do it!!!

Whilst we are on the topic of politics, I cant remember in my lifetime a state government committing more funds to upgrade basketball stadiums and facilities than the current labour government

some of these stadiums have been lobbying for much needed funds to upgrade for decades and McGowan has been the one to commit

if your in the politics of basketball this is a good government for our game

Reply #845196 | Report this post

Anoon
Years ago

We should wait and see what basketball gets from these commitments. The Liberals built Bendat and wasted $20mil to make themselves feel good. At the time BWA wanted a ten court "tin shed" but Barnett and Waldron wanted a shrine to liberalism. That $20mil would have gone a long way to help some other associations who generally struggle to find a decent facility to play in.

Queensland presumably has a shorter season, then.

We're going to lose at least a month. Two weeks down already, zero chance we're playing this weekend, very slim chance we're playing next weekend, absent a specific exemption on masks, because they clearly want to do masks for two weeks after each case. McGowan even implied in his presser yesterday morning that masks might be an even longer-term thing than that, although that may have more exemptions for sports and such.

I don't remember how much breathing room we had between the end of the season and the national tournament, but I can't imagine it was that much.

Reply #846251 | Report this post

koberulz
Years ago

Of course, completely canning everything isn't the only alternative, but it's going to shift from postponing games to redoing the schedule so each team plays each other team once instead of twice, same as last year. And then if you do that, can you keep it as NBL1 or do we have to have the return of the West Coast Classic?

This is really, really shitty timing.

Reply #846262 | Report this post

They could also just increase the frequency of double headers then add games on the bye weekend.

BWA pushing for exemptions and limited crowds (or none) in the short term. Good chance we proceed as planned this weekend (assuming no more cases)

Reply #846271 | Report this post

Good for BWA, hope they can get government to use common sense.
It is completely reasonable to have exemptions for players and officials to not have to wear masks and crowds attend with masks on (assuming this outbreak remains under control). It was silly that this wasn't allowed last weekend (pre 2nd out break, even then they could have still played games but no crowd).

Reply #846274 | Report this post

koberulz
Years ago

I find it difficult to believe they'll get an exemption this weekend if they couldn't get one last weekend, given that things have only got worse in the interim.

They do have more time to put together a plan to deal with it, but I really don't see the government coming to the party because if they do it for BWA then they have to look at all sorts of other potential exemptions for other sports and organisations.

Reply #846276 | Report this post

Anonymous

and so they should, other indoor sports should have same exemptions, player no masks, spectators masks assuming outbreaks in control.

My question is what lengths do the players in NBL1 West comply with to make them basically exempt from wearing masks? Meaning most probably like the rest of the community they are traveling to work, wearing masks etc What makes the players who for the most part have to wear masks 24/7 like the rest of the community indoors exempt for 2 hours on a basketball court?

So when 8 footy or rugby players tackle, jump and pile on eachother outdoors panting, coughing and spraying saliva on everyone playing etc, covid knows not to pass on the virus. But when players post up on another, covid says yes lets pass virus on cos its indoors.

It depends. As of now, we only know what restrictions are in place until midnight Friday night/Saturday morning. It depends what restrictions are announced either today or tomorrow.
