I think puoch will be an opal one day. 6'3 sfs don’t come around too often with her skillset.
Proctor maybe the only one as a potential boomer.

Too Early to say though..

Quality of opponents and player availability doesn't change he played for the Boomers.

He could be a one cap wonder because circumstances but he'll never lose his international appearance

Being a Boomer by that logic above means just about everyone has a Boomers cap.
Cadee, Wagstaff, Drmic, Matt Kenyon etc..

Proctor is still a teenager and hopefully has a great future .

Yes. That's right. They're all Boomers. Just like everyone who pulls on an Australian Jersey in Football(Soccer) is Socceroo.

Incorrect, as the junior/U23/Olympic men's team are the Olyroos not Socceroos.

Perthworld if you play for the senior national team you are a Socceroo.
Just as if you put on a senior jersey for Australia in Basketball you are a Boomer.

Which is what the conversation was about. It didn't need clarity until you walked in.

Couple others have a chance. Simons, nelson, a few bottom agers that Missed out on selection maybe.

The overall standard looks a bit off. I suppose that is understandable given the Covid lockdowns, particularly with the Vic teams.

It will be interesting to see how development bounces back for the kids who missed critical stretches. That happens individually with injuries, sure, but we've never seen it on this scale. It wouldn't surprise me if we see fewer elite seniors out of this group because the couple of years ahead of them were already established on senior pathways, and the couple of years behind them missed lower quality opportunities.

I hope there are no longer term affects, but the standard is definitely below what you would expect. I think Vic Metro has some real issues with their selection process too, whether it be some form of bias or relying too heavily on a small number of single tryout sessions, the fact is there were a lot of questionable selections and non selection on both the girls and boys sides.

SA not favourites, rely heavily on Borlase to carry them and only late game heroics by her alone got it done vs Qld. Queensland chocked late in the game.

Expect Vic teams to show up terrible SA front court and bully them at the rim.

#155 AFL is. Basketball doesn't draw the best athletes in SA. Every few years there are some elite boys but generally they gravate to AFL early on.

Given the toxic, negative mess that is basketball in SA is there any wonder why?

Scott Butler is infatuated with Sturt and Prince Alfred private school boys, doesn't matter if they can play or not.
He coached one of the most talented SA Metro boys teams in history to 8th at the Nationals a couple of years ago.
He has handpicked this years Boys team as "high performance" manager, a team full of Sturt players that are a mid table program in the 16s and 18s local league.
The results under his watch make his position untenable.
It’s time for BSA HP to get someone from outside SA to run the program properly, free from the school, club and boys club surname bias that continues to grip the game in Adelaide.

Sturt boys basketball was one of the best programs in the country, Butler went there as manager, stuffed it up and left it in a mess. They will recover but it will take time.
Mediocrity seems to follow Butler because the same thing is happening with the SA Metro boys.

Hey I'm a fellow 18 1s player I know all the guys that made the team and the initial team imo seemed like all the right choices ofc there’s a few at the end of the lineup that aren’t as clear but that’ll always be the case. Idk abt all the politics but the notion PAC had favouritism is weird. The metro team has 3 iggies players, one from saint peters boys, one from PAC, one from modbury high, two from cabra, one from concordia and one from saint johns grammar. Can’t say I know all the politics but this school notion seems like a weird take

Very short of quality centers over 6'3 in the women the past few years.
Only 3 legit post prospects since 98, Aokuso, Magbegor and Anstey.

I have not seen another future post player with opals potential from 98,99,00,01,02,03 or 04 age groups. and Hardly any bigs in college, mainly guards and sfs.

Problem area for australia for sure.

Looking at it now, the team chosen is spot on except for the Simons over Borlase.
The bottom agers on that team are Loughridge, Puoch and Simons from this ajcs

Squad would be...

U17 2020/21
(HC-T.York)
5'5 04 D.Loughridge vic pg
5’7 03 L.Fakalata vic pg
5’7 03 K.Deeble qld pg
5’10 03 S.Swain qld sg
5’11 04 I.Borlase sa g/f
6’2 03 P.Price vic sf
6’2 03 C.Dunn vic cf
6’2 03 A.Goodchild nsw pf
6’2 03 P.Dunlop vic pf
6’2 03 M.Prior nsw pf
6’2 04 N.Puoch vic sf
6’3 03 C.Evans nsw c

Brazel would be good too, but not enough room. Has to wait till u19 23’ WC and qualifiers.

Sturt were dominant with Mesecke at the helm for many years. Should BSA headhunt him to come back and replace Butler?

There appears to be no apparent successor within SA currently.

Reply #843073 | Report this post

Anonymous
Years ago

No doubt Mesecke would be an outstanding candidate in this role.

Butler is a solid administrator, a good back of house guy. If this role is to be elite leading top level athletes, Mesecke has the communication and relationship building capabilities, talent ID skills, can relate with high performance/elite athletes and families and strategic thinking that sets him apart.

If you could get Mesecke back to SA the 2 could make an amazing combo.

BSA do not understand HP how you lead these programs and the positive impact doing it well has on the sport and athletes at ALL levels. So the current, tick the boxes, deliver consistent OK will be sustained.

Remember, Ballarat were to host it in 2020 so good on them for getting the opportunity post Covid.
