Boti on Henry not playing Brandon Paul

We have all been scratching our heads at the sick joke going on at the 6ers now we have to read about it....

C'mon guys stop fooling around. Someone tell Conner and JVG there are no lottery picks in the NBL

"Taipans had the better of the half but Adelaide was drawing closer when coach Conner Henry called time-out with 2.0 seconds left to halftime.

Paul was shooting free throws so seriously, WTF?

After this essential time-out break in playing transmission, Paul slotted both free throws as we waited for that telltale Henry magic. Well, it appeared he set up a halfcourt press of some kind, which Jarrod Kenny attacked, letting loose a shot from near centre which never looked like missing. Yes, that was a Sixers masterstroke indeed"

"QUOTE of the WEEK

"Brandon hasn't been real good in the beginning of this game but he's now finally getting his feet under him. He'll play a lot in the second half."

- 36ers coach Connor Henry during halftime of the loss in Cairns, defending the indefensible as to why his recently-recruited NBA stud isn't being utilised, before subbing him on at 5:45 in the third and running nothing for him."

According to the NBL's livestats play-by-play: Cairns called the timeout with 0:05 seconds remaining in the second.

Boti with some "pearls", indeed.

Pearls or not, Connor Henry is proving to be a fucking idiot. This has shades of Torrey Craig playing behind Steven Weigh to it. I don't know what it is about NBL coaches and benching some of their top talent to keep their perfect little rotations. Paul doesnt need to be eased into anything. HE showed on game 1 that he's good to go already.

Regardless, after subbing Paul out Henry can be heard saying 'Quick break and you're coming right back'. He didn't.

He also called Steindl a terrible defender in a timeout and drew up a play for Paul to go hard at him. Paul didn't even touch the ball on the ensuing play.

Is that on the coach or the players?

Both. If the players aren't following instructions then it's up to the coach to be a prick about it and get the hook out. Amazing how quickly they'll learn. Unfortunately you still see that now, but it's not only Adelaide where you see this.

Judgments about Henry aside, there does seem to be a mentality creeping into the team of "we are going nowhere, I'm going to get mine" from some individuals.

Nothing new, just boti being a jealous and grumpy old man who has a grudge against Adelaide, the owner and JVG. Adelaide could be Perth and he would still find something too hate.

Connor Henry has never been a good NBL coach and sadly I don't think he ever will be

This time next season will be wether we know if Henry can coach, by then hopefully he gets the players he wants in the team and if you are going to bring in imports get good ones right straight away. If JVG is doing the recruiting on his own, Henry should not let that happen and make it known to the owner, no one recruits for Gleeson but Gleeson, you live and swim by your decisions.

Makes me wonder if Henry didnt want Paul but JVG got his way. Now Henry is trying to make it look like a bad fit.

Message to Adelaide......it's the NBL, not the NBA.
Coaches here choose the players. Not management. No wonder the first choice coach said I'm out.

By then its too late.

We would have lost 2 years of Humphries contract, DJ is 2 years older.

How do you know JVG didn't recruit with Henry ratifying the choices?

If JVG rules recruitment with an iron fist, how is Henry going to wrestle that power away?

I don't even have any confidence that Henry would have recruited better, look at how he is playing Paul.

I'm OK with this year being a bust, due to injuries, and there is a hope for a better year next year.

However I am not hopeful at all, this season's woes extends beyond just injuries, the current squad is poor after DJ, IH, Paul and Giddey. Giddey will be gone.

The playing group does not really follow Henry's instructions, seems they do something else after timeouts.

The coach's rotation pattern does not lend towards confidence even with more talent next year.

I am not the Sack Clark / Wright / Henry type of person, but I am seeing things that are concerning.

" Boti hates Perth and loves Adelaide." I believe you've stumbled on the exact point being made.

Question - do we expect coaches to play people on the basis we expect the player to be good? Is it possible Paul wasn’t doing his job? Wasn’t running the plays?

It’s very hard to discern on here whether the coach hate is from Perth fans who were giving him shit from day dot, or from Adelaide fans who had grand (unrealistic) expectations for the team, or whether there are legitimate criticisms here.

I think a mixture of all three - any time you lose games criticism is to be had, fair enough.

Vs Cairns they needed Paul out there more, and if he sucked then you pile the pressure on the player because you can’t just cover with a benchie when the star import isn’t getting it done. Player needs to show up and get it done.

But if that’s the approach then we can’t criticise the coach for leaving out of form players on the court and it reduces the power the coach has so you put it on the player to help his team by running the right plays instead of ignoring the coach.

Could argue “disinterest” and general insubordinate players reflects the chemistry with the coach, but it’s unprofessional and a negative for a player to do that regardless of the coach - I think a lot of people blamed Wright last year but the players, including DJ have to be accountable for what they produce in that regard. If we see that from players like maybe DJ or Sloan of the past or Paul, or whomever else, they need to get their head in check IMO.

IDK but from outside looking in, BP attitude seems to be ok.

He has proved he can create his own shot, is athletic, has a good shooting action and has the ability to score plenty. Why we wouldn't be exploiting this is baffling.

I also haven't seen any plays run to get him an open look or even run the ball through his hands too much.

If you bring in someone with the tools he seems to have, I can't understand why you wouldn't set structures up to give him and the team the best chance to succeed.

If Connor keeps him nailed to the bench and not allow him to play when he is on the court as he has done so far and then make comments in the media like he doesn't start well (hard from the bench) or is playing poorly and struggling with fatigue (I haven't seen this) when on the court, that will not only hurt BP stock, it will make it very difficult to attract any decent players in the future.

Have Adelaide not learnt what brand and reputation damage comes from treating players like this......Mitch Creek anybody

Hopefully Giddey comes back and chucks Paul the ball a few times.

Sixers are a mess and will remain so until the top changes. Henry needs JVG as that's who gave him his job, but jvg pics the roster. It don’t work and will continue to not work until jvg drains owner of his money, then Larry will come in and pick it up .... then it might finally have a chance.

I'd be really fascinated by the conversations of JVG and Henry about recruiting,do they listen to each other, does Henry make any suggestions as to players that he and his people think are worth looking at, does JVG listen or is it completely the other way and Henry recruits and JVG gives his suggestions?
