Perth v Illawarra

It's probably fair to say that the top of the table Cats are purring nicely and with 5 straight wins they don't look like coughing up a hairball any time soon. It's the Bryce Cotton show with the ball on the string.

Illawarra are in the Top 4, but could tumble out with a loss. Unless you're Joe Biden, people stumble down stats, not up them. After a strong start to the season, their talons need to come out tonight to rip the cats to shreds.

It's always great to see so many Cats fans in one place. All they need is a crazy cast lady to feed them, but tonight Cotton will be shaking the dry food packet calling all the fans to gather around and watch his antics. Cats game to lose, Hawks wings to be clipped

The Cotton show? You forgot to mention perths favorite supporting act the Ogilvy show.

He's having a good year under Goorj but as we speak he's at the lather lounge freshly trimmed and looking his best preparing to be posterized

When they played round 8 in the Hub the Wildcats won by a comfortable margin of 17 keeping the Hawks under 20 for every quarter but the 4th. Hawks only had one player in double digits that game (Harvey 17), whilst the Cats had 4 players in double figures. It will be a major upset to see the Hawks get this one in the jungle.

Sportsbet:
Wildcats $1.36
Hawks $3.10

Ah yes, another performance of The AJ Show at the Arena - can't wait!

There is no way a professional barber shaves his neckline that high - AJ is obviously doing a very bad DIY job.

The standing-up-until-your-opponent-scores started with Illawarra long ago.
Wildcats, so as to not directly rip it off, reversed the concept.

Definitely. I do recall a few rare games where we went ice cold to start a game (Challenge Stadium era, when it was first implemented) and the crowd would start to have a "why are we putting off our own team?" vibe. Awkward.

Liam Santamaria (I think) demonstrating his lack of understanding of the rules, saying Hawks might have got away with a back court violation.

NO.

Putting your a foot in the front court then stepping back while the ball and your other foot is NOT a back court violation.

However, there was a call they (and refs) missed when a Perth player caught the ball, took 2 steps then started dribbling.

I think you'll find that is a travel (providing the referee calls it)

What a tough game that was!! The hawks played almost perfect D but couldn't maintain it for the entire game against the champs. Cotton is the fittest player in the league good luck keeping him quiet for 40 minutes. Simon did well defending him but couldn't go with him in the fourth and thats when the game broke open. Then interpretation of travels when starting a dribble seems to have changed over the last couple of seasons.

It used to be that you had to release the ball before lifting your pivot foot - that doesn't seem to be called these days, from NBL down to rep.

When I raise it with refs (nicely), they act like they don’t want to know about it.

2 years ago FIBA adopted the same TRAVEL interpretation that theY use in the NBA.
Which now allows players in progress to use what they call a gather step. So if on the run prior to a catch or layup, the first foot to strike the ground is labeled a gather step or step Zero. You can then basically have 2 steps after the g at her step.

Knowall, that wasn't the type of travel I was referring to. I’m talking about a stationary player getting the ball, pivoting (and so establishing their pivot foot), and then lifting their pivot foot before releasing the ball. Basically, they’re jumping with both feet off the court as they reposition their feet to start their dribble.

Happy to hear your interpretation.

"So if on the run prior to a catch or layup, the first foot to strike the ground is labeled a gather step or step Zero."

The foot has to be in contact with the floor when the catch is made to be considered a gather step.

If they are stationery and did lift there pivot foot the technically however due to refs having to officiate different scenarios there has been a consistent lack of no calls on travel. At least in this area I think they are being consistent. Not saying it's right just they consistent not calling any travel this year.
