The third or fourth Vic metro team would beat non-Vic teams. That is not intended to be slight on other States, but it is worth reflecting on the depth of competition in Vic. Some 11000 or so kids play rep bball each week in Vic. It's a hot bed of talent, and I do hope the kids that miss the Vic team realise they are at the top end of Aus bball. Keep going.

There are plenty of big Vic Country girls, they will be a difficult team to play simply because of that, but there are no elite guards from Vic Country. I don't know who they’ve chosen but you could throw a blanket over about 10 of them. It doesn’t matter who Vic Metro have chosen, they will beat everyone easily, they would come 1st, 2nd and 3rd in this age group if they chose 3 teams. Only a small number of standouts, but great depth.

If you have a 14/15 year old deciding not to try out to get a spot in a National tournament because they don't like the coach...well maybe team sport is not for them! Maybe try Archery or golf, over a career, you will have coaches you like and don't like for various reasons, often because they don't give enough minutes or don't play you in a role you don't like.

242 sounds like you have no idea, either that or your part of the current Sturt centric BSA HP program
Sapwell would be the ideal choice to run the HP program, his resume speaks for itself.
(Mod: Potentially defamatory.)
Jantke doesn't have club bias, he’s been involved with 4 clubs and trains Guys from everywhere, he has great knowledge of modern basketball and has the relationship building skills to get the very best out of HP athletes and families. His research is world class, read his blogs.
Williams is a championship 36er so has instant cred, has had major success as a junior Coach (summer winter Classics State Champ titles all in one year, not sure that’s ever been done before here.)
Most important these Guys bring spirit and build strong inclusive environments, things that are sadly lacking in the current setup, players want to play FOR them, not IN SPITE of them...huge difference.
Get these Guys in, leave JWright in the 18s position and watch the Boys HP program take off again.

If the clubs do a good job with player development the HP programs are irrelevant, that is where the kids spend most of their time and for the most part the coaches are better anyway. At least with Clubs kids can leave if they aren't getting the opportunities or support they are after, the HP coaches don't really have to answer to anyone, its a BS system in every State. The funny thing is listening to HP coaches crap on about the European Academy system and how great it is and then do all they can to centralize player development programs to feather their own nests.

What is the role?

That would largely determine skillset required. My observations are in SA they want low level basketball admins that are good at coordinating TI camps and scheduling practices for state teams. The last 3 have been great at that.

Leadership, high level communication, working with elite youth athletes and families, trusted networks to leverage for the athletes are not really a requirement for you guys in SA.

If my understanding is correct the last 3 guys in the role in your state have been fine and done well.

VM - guard group are outstanding. 3pt threat is huge with this group. Bigs are developing but have high -IQ's (and they're massive)

VC - long athletic physical wings, solid bigs and starting guards cant be kept out of the paint. Only question is where 3pt threat is coming from.

Watching at the combine, all games were close and of high standard. Can't identify who was completely overlooked amongst either team selection.

Why do people keep saying that SAM will "surprise" people? At least on the girls side, they've had perhaps some of the most talented groups in Australia every year. The coaching has been thoroughly average for almost 10 years and they still medal because of talent. This year's U16s should be no different.

The boys are obviously not as successful but have still managed a gold, silver and bronze medal in the last few years. This U16 group would have been penciled in for a medal if two of the top players hadn't quit and next year's group should be reasonable too.
