PER v SEM Mar 3

The late game is set to be a cracker as well. SEM have been playing some good basketball at the moment, but hey Perth seem to be "Mr Rent-a-kill" able to calmly and methodically eliminate their opposition. Will they make them bury their own grave?
Perth have had a nice long break and might just go off all guns blazing.

Sykes out does not automatically mean a SEM win.

Sykes was out last game and they managed to take care of business.

I don't rate Adnam that highly but he is doing a sterling job this year with his shot making and play making.

Gliddon is also a decent defender.

No you haven't, because when the Cup was announced they only mentioned it being in Melbourne, at John Cain Arena. They did not mention the Phoenix getting to play games at the SBC.

It's been on the fixtures since before the cup started. And commentators have been talking about SEM getting back to the 'heartland' from the first game.

There are games being played tomorrow at the SBC that don't feature either Melbourne team. Maybe there was a need to move away from John Cain for a couple of days.

Koberulz; When the cup fixture was announced on February 05, today's two games and tomorrow’s two games were listed at the SBC. Just because you didn’t review the full fixture at that stage doesn’t mean you can say it wasn’t announced.

Garbage 2nd half by Perth, but luckily SEM handed us a big enough lead in the 2nd to let us scrape home.
Heavy starter minutes really not what we needed in the first of a 3 games in 5 days sequence.

On the plus side, Perth have done well to get 5 SEM games out of the way this early. That team is going places.
Wild Kyle having himself quite a season.

Hook by Cotton caused all the contact, offensive player isn't entitled to the space the defensive player is already standing on. Very average decision from one of the League's most experienced referees.

It's a, "the best player in the league foul call" simple, MJ got calls that noone else did, Cotton does too, accept it. And before the idiots come forward about comparing MJ to Cotton I'm not, I'm comparing the best player currently in any league. You push your leg out into the player with the ball causing contact and that's a foul, you own't see it always called, but with the "best" player in the league being hindered it would be called 60% of the time.

#396 that is an extremely funny comment seeing the call was made by a referee with only 25 games experience. But you say "Very average decision from one of the League's most experienced referees."

#420 - it should have been successful because the defenders foot was within the charge circle, in line with the FIBA rule where the 'cylinder principle applies to all players defensive or offensive'. So even though the foot wasn’t planted, it was clearly in the charge circle.

#422 fair call, rewatched the footage got the ref wrong. Still doesn't change the fact the hook caused all the contact including the following contact by Gliddon. Very clear and obvious miss that led to an error which decided the game.
First game or 500th game, it's an error of the worst kind.

From the 50 or 60 tweets I've seen on the play (both angles) its a pretty even split of who thinks it was or wasn't a foul, and it definitely isn't all Perth fans saying it was.

Most would agree it was soft and would have happily let play go on but Gliddon put himself in the position that allowed the refs to call it. If you get beat off the dribble, you don't get to run into the player you're defending. He is also pretty lucky not to have worn a tech after his carry-on.

You would have had to tech the entire Phoenix team because they all reacted pretty strongly. A case of professional players being officiated by a ref who is still adapting to the standard. Don't reward Bryce for flopping like that.

#424 his foot must be planted on the line or on the floor inside the circle for the NCSC to be valid. Norton's heels were raised so he is outside the circle. The cylinder principle does not apply to the NCSC. From the rule dot point 3 - The defensive player has one foot or both feet in contact with the no-charge semi-circle area. Norton was not touching the line when contact occurred. Therefore it cannot be a no call due to the NCSC. A more plausible argument would be Norton was not hit in the torso but the hip thus had not established a legal guarding position.

#425 I was not making a case that the call was right or wrong. What I was stating was the poster clearly had no idea who called the foul.
