Pretty big name, fan favourite a couple years ago at the Spurs. Considering his resume it seems to be a big named pick up from JVG.

Count his money?

I would imagine he's still holding out faint hope for an NBA contract and if unsuccessful this season will probably go back to Europe next season. A specialist 3pt shooter like him who can't carry a team himself can make a lot more in Europe slotting in to an upper echelon team than he could here.

@zodiac how are you always so informed with everything. You seem to be quite active on here so you must have a lot of spare time or be a really passionate fan of the 36ers and league.

The 36ers are my team but I'm more a fan of the league really and would probably follow the league just as hard even if the Sixers went bust. Just been a hardcore NBL fan for 30 years.

I too have been following the league for over 30 years.

My first game was a Sixers quarter final in 89 against Perth.

I still remember going wild when Orlando Phillips hit the last second put back to win the game.

O-O- Orlando! Blast front he past. Was devo when he replaced
My fave, Bill Jones. Loved the 6ers since I caught the 85 GF late on tv. Sixers lost but I was sold! 35 years later, love the NBL and the 6ers. Great to see the league so strong. Hopefully Brandon Paul will be one of our better imports of late. Pleasantly surprised by how Conner has the team running.

Highlights from last season with Olympiacos:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzdtgGmWQQA

Looks alright there and appears to have more athleticism than 2021 Sloan, but his stats aren't much to get excited about! Not even averaging two 3 pt makes per game and shooting 43/38/68%.

If he gets here in mid-March, how many games left before finals?

Slide Crocker into 6th man position, to hopefully play that energy 6th man off the bench that can score a bit.

Giddey is important in the starting lineup. The way he is feeding the twin towers should not be underrated - when passes get into the big men, offensive dominance happens.

We saw when Adelaide struggled against Sydney to get the ball into the bigs, everything closed up - that's why 36ers need 1) the best passer in the team to be on court and 2) good three point shooting to punish traps designed to double team and overload the big men. Three point shooting opens the court.

If he's available straight after the NBL Cup I think Adelaide will have 19 games remaining.

Playing Euroleague for a big club isn't like playing in the NBL, you can have games where you hardly see the ball as the team is running the same plays for the same players where they see an advantage.

Looking at some of his road performances:

- 20pts on 5/10 at CSKA Moscow
- 17pts on 5/9 at Panathinaikos
- 21pts on 7/11 at Red Star Belgrade

He can definitely still play against good opponents and/or in tough environments. Whether he can do it consistently remains to be seen, but the quality is there.

I like this. Should be an improvement on Sloan.

Given how impressive Humphries and Giddey have been, if Paul can become a quality contributor then 36ers suddenly a very good top 4 prospect. They really need an elite wing scorer. Humphries and DJ have been hard to stop, and Giddey can capably run the point. But Dech, Sloan and Crocker just haven't given enough punch on the offensive end. If Paul provides that, then suddenly they're a dangerous outfit.

Big fan of this signing and bu far the most excited I've been for an import in a LONG time. Normally this time of year we just sign an injured veteran who's been in the league 15 times before so great to see some actual talent (and under 30) come in. Not to mention the club has finally looked at what we actually needed and recruited around this thrasher than just filling a spot with any position.

Yeah I agree with you. 19 mins per game suggests he is a key sub for Olympiacos, not a star, so he's not going to get the same scoring opps in every game. Fingers crossed he can ramp those shooting percentages up significantly in the NBL with more offence going through him. Cautiously optimistic because, unlike Sloan, he has played at a high level very recently. Will be handy if he can take ball-handling pressure off Giddey at times too!

If we have 19 games left after he gets here, then that’s good news. Should be plenty of time for him to mesh with the team.

FWIW re Euroleague

In his last season at Maccabi Joe Ingles in the Euroleague averaged 6p,3a,3r in 23mpg

Brandon Paul last season in the Euroleague averaged 9p, 1a, 3r in 20mpg

Not saying that Paul will be Ingles or as good as Ingles or anything but just pointing out dont be alarmed by his Euroleague stats, those big Euroleague clubs that these 2 have played for are super deep so its no shame to be playing a role for them.

In general most players who have Euroleague and NBA experience do well in the NBL, the exceptions over the last couple of years with guys like Sloan and Gee is if they are older, over 30, and a bit washed, but Paul is 29 years old, so shouldn't be old and washed so should be a really good NBL player.

Also G league stats generally translate fairly well to the NBL

Pauls G League career averages are

15p,2a,3r with 39% 3pt shooting, so i think we can reasonably expect production at that sort of level in the NBL

"Paul is 6' 4.

------------------------------------------

He was listed at 6'4 3/4" barefoot in Europe. So, it would be 6-6 in shoes.

No he's 6'4 in shoes according to his draft combine measurements. Has a 6'10 wingspan though, so he has good size for an NBL guard.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

He didn't average 10 points a game in EuroLeague.

It was 8.6 PPG

No he's 6'4 in shoes according to his draft combine measurements. Has a 6'10 wingspan though, so he has good size for an NBL guard.

In my experience, the measurements and listings from Europe are much much much more accurate than the ones from the NCAA, G-League, NBA, and draft combines. The draft combines are notoriously unreliable.

So if it says 6-3 from NBA drafty combines, or 6-5 from Europe, I would trust the European measurement far more.
