Cairns v New Zealand Feb 6

Bottom two teams clash tonight. Cairns are stumbling through this season like a drunkard walking through a blackberry thicket. They just can't seem to get it to work.

New Zealand skipped the plane to Perth after a "mystery illness" with 10 of their players. I didn't know the tap water was that bad and there's a reason why you don't for a second pie floater after winning at the Casino. Still, some people will do anything to get out of going to Perth. Although the one star reviews of that alternative vegan curry restaurant using roadkill indicates art this "mystery illness" could be.

We haven't seen a great deal of the Breakers so far on their magical adventure. Don't know what they have been doing apart from receiving messages of support from Jacinta and making TikTok videos in their hotel rooms. With Cairns already 6 games down, getting the W for them is a matter of urgency. When these teams fight over that W like a wishbone who will win?

Cairns have been tucked into bed at night by their mums, whereas the Breaker Boys are getting tucked into bed by Dan Shamir who tells scary bedtime stories. My tip is for the Snakes to get that wishbone.

NZ will win easy as Cairns only have 3 eligible players as Lamar Patterson has eaten them. With brekky & lunch still approaching today there's a good chance this one will be called off!

The best thing about this season as a NZ fan is not having to listen to Australian commentary on any Breakers games. The NZ Sky commentary team is easily the best in the NBL.

Wait, so you get NZ commentary for every Breakers game on Sky this season? Must be nice.

Lamar Patterson is a tough watch. Jerrick missing makes it very hard for Cairns. Corey can't get going otherwise we would be well up. Newbill was the glue

Another NBL game with crap referees. Fouls called that could be let go. No calls on bad fouls. Close your eyes & have a guess!

This will be a long season for the Breakers. They're getting nothing from their imports, and with no homes games it’s going to be incredibly tough.

Was expecting to see Patterson have shed some more weight by this game but he's clearly not working hard enough between games or he’s feeding his face. Sounds mean but damn he’s carrying some weight. It’s embarrassing for a supposedly top tier import

Just tuned in, can't believe the size of Patterson. How good would he if he ever got in shape?
I suppose this is why he is such a journeyman.

How does patterson get freethrows for a foul on Kenny when there was surely more contact on machado the play before? Its just obviously not consistent.

Noi turned it over so many times at start 4th trying to win the game. Machado was fouled but just threw it away. Patterson has always been faterson but is looking much better.

Machado in the end poor game management cost Taipans the game. Poor passing, options & shooting in the last 5-6 minutes. Breakers a good comeback & in the end deserved the win.

Yinka I think you meant Deng instead of Adel.

I don't think either Machado nor Oliver can be excused anymore. The whole team needs to have a look at themselves. 11 points up and lose by 6. It’s just not good enough.

On behalf of all Cairns restaurant owners can the NBL turn Cairns into a hub for the NZ Breakers. Patterson has single handedly kickstarted our post COVID economy.

On a side note, when is Kelly posting his Coach of the Year award to Newbill in Japan???

Machado trying to do to much, Noi should have not listened to those nba calls, when his threes not dropping there's not much else. Coach Kelly putting kenny on Patterson late was certainly no coaching master stroke. Cairns are done with two of the best players in the league, I’d say Noi and deng would be on reasonable money but it falls away after that. Nagati was very reasonable today though.

The next game could have huge ramifications for the season. The Breakers could be .500 and Cairns may never recover.

Breakers bought 7 days extra time and 0 games against Perth. I am sure that is Matt Walsh getting crafty and it worked. Given how the Breakers only shot 42% from the field at 31% from 3, Cairns fans were lucky this wasn't a blow out.

I don’t understand how people don’t understand the role Iverson has been assigned. Watch Patterson’s highlights and Iverson gets him going by creating a lot of space.

Breakers have a lot of upside given that C Webster, Patterson, Loe and Iverson still have a lot of improvement.

Lastly, Patterson: 22 and 5 in 22 minutes in the condition he is in. If this guy could turn up in shape for once he’d be 30, 5 and 5 and MVP no questions asked.

I was there and honestly thought we (Taipans) could've gotten this one. I think the Taipans were very tired by the end of the third quarter but the crowd was on fire tonight, something I haven’t seen since last year. You know a crowd can will a team for a win especially Taipans. It started to go really bad when Machado had the bizarre throw of the ball into the centre of the court. The major blow is losing DJ but it got worse tonight with no Mirko. Personally I think it may have something to do with them and the pop up stadium. Once we go back to the Convention Centre, it might settle them. The stadium issue been highly disorientating as a fan, it does not flow as well for the crowds, maybe the same for the team.
