Brisbane v Sydney Jan26

Well, I hope everyone has had a lamb chop, game of backyard cricket, and a thong throwing contest today because now we are ready to turn on the telly and watch the Kings invade the Bullets home court.

The Brisbun Thirty Sixers are languishing winless at the bottom of the table. Why can't we all get participation ribbons and a nice warm hug from nana? Zero and three will not be a good look for Brisbun at home. An average score of 83 is usually pretty good in the NBL, except the competition has averaged 90 against that. The hidden danger with signing up old Sixers is that SA was never a convict state, so we never worried about fences, no-one in SA has ever heard of a D-fence - just ask the Sixers....

Sydney lost their first game to Cairns, but came back strongly to even it up at 1 all. Maybe the Cockroaches needed a warm up game to get the cobwebs out the system. Like an Oxford St street walker, you have to be prepared to be asked to do anything and I’m in two minds how this game will play out. Ware will obviously be dangerous and has taught guards not to count their chickens before. Crusty old stalwart, Newley, just seems to have the punch when it matters so this tussle might come down to how well the knuckle draggers in the key (aka the Centres) go. The Kings have won the boards in both their games, whereas the Bullets haven’t. I think this will be the difference tonight with the Kings being the Kings of the offensive boards in particular. They might be hungrier than a convict on quarter rations.

At one stage Queensland was part of the great state of NSW. I’m tipping the Kings to hoist their flag in Brisbun and re-claim that court.

Kings by 7

Can't wait for the referees to send an inconsequential out of bounds call to the review centre with 9 minutes left in the first quarter.

Oh Brizzy, we need this one. Not just for the scoreboard. We need the boost on this side of the white line too!

Listen, you've played well, the roster looks good, Law makes losing Patterson seem not-so-bad, Hodgson hasn't participated yet, Froling (much) better than expected, the rest at-least playing their roles. And Harrison, a revelation this early-season. Even the innovations by Lemanis with his new squad. But for what?

Still not really good enough? Sheesh!

#577, you obviously don't watch the nba, there is more reviews still and get me started on the number of time outs they get. The nbl is fine.

NBL is not fine, this review system is mind boggling stupid & unwatchable basketball. Should only be for the last 2 minutes of the fourth.

Brisbane imports look, Martin and DJ score well but defensively are non existent. Is it something they learn in the US system. Moller is a great team player but he has to learn to score at this level. Brisbane are better than there results.

Didi injured and gone, kings in big trouble now. They are looking very tired and lethargic. Been on the road since Boxing Day. Can't make finals with these injuries. As punter above said some very poor defenders in the kings.

Yeah Kings looked pretty gassed since the end of the first Q, and Didi down also... Ouch.

Kings had no business being in a position to win this one down the stretch, the usual Bullets brain-fades in the clutch opened the door.

Agree with Gaze that Law looks like he might be a better pick up than Patterson, too.

Wishing they still had Weaver, I'm guessing. And Weaver is probably grateful he's living in a million dollar house in Texas. Him and Tate both.

Got not much to do with Weaver, it's that big bloke that wears number 6 that there missing. His defence around the rim is irreplaceable. Law doesn’t shoot half those shots when he’s there.
Yes Law might be a slight up on Patterson if that’s possible.

They're missing the dogs of the defence Tate, Taylor, Bogut, Cooks .. Now you have Didi out, Casper is going to have a long year with no guard play help. JMartin is a 20&10 guy every night though

Ware is awful. Can't defend any more and if his shot isn't falling, he's not giving this team much. Add that to all the injuries and it's going to be a long season for the Kings.

Tyrell a mirage. Too slow on defence, can't do anything with the ball outside of 8 feet. Will get found out in crunch time games but you probably won’t see him with Hodgson and Froling both available.

Tyrel played very well today, Casper has got slower and his D not quite as good but Vasiljevic was was in fishing net, trying to keep the water in. Top college in theUS never taught him defence. Martin again great offence no so good at other end, average to be nice. Bruce should have got more time, Sydney best. Moller is struggling on the offensive end which is hurting his imput. Hunter stepping up. Oh for Bogut to be back. Newley still still doing Newley things, Didi hurt again, kings depth at breaking point. Don't sleep on Brisbane, Law looks a great player at both ends, dare I say it as Gaze said better than Patterson. Froling is also struggling, Sobey playing smart and excellent on both ends. Cadee is solid, Drimic as with Cadee filling a nice spot and playing team. I like the look Brisbane which makes me think hawks are firming to play finals.

Sounds like Kings didn't play any defense or most of the players didn't yet they lost by 3? I did watch most of it and not sure where you saw all those problems. The main issue was the Brisbane bigs who created a big issue for undersized Kings unit and opened lanes for drivers, and Law with midrange game. DJ does need to improve his perimeter defense but it's not too bad overall to keep him off the floor obviously, the same with Ware. It's on the offensive end where they need to look for reverse passes more often to create open looks, something what they did in Q1.

The main problem Kings are facing is load management. Some will say 'it's a 40 min game' which is correct but rarely athletes can maintain high intensity for prolonged times which leads to lapses and mistakes.

Kings never looked in it after half time, they got to within 3 points due to effort and Brisbane clangers in the last few minutes. Kings defence is not in the same league as last season, certainly early season before Bogut got injuries. Martin is very good player but his box outs and defence around the ring is average. As bloke above said DJ has to work on that as well. Kings won't make finals.

"Didn't realise Big Joe was back in Brissie? Game Commissioner?"

Who cares.....why is this even a point of discussion. The guy is crooked. Theres a reason why NBL clubs won't have him around their programs anymore. A shame man with so much integrity and honesty has been replaced by one with so little.

Who was he supposed to have replaced exactly? I did spot Joe at the game as well, standing in vicinity of Mackinnon, who replaced Clarke. Maybe has Joe in as a game night manager, logistics etc?

Joe will be great for Brisbane if he is employed there in any capacity. The problem with Brisbane's off court staff right now is that they are non-basketball numpties who have no idea how to run a club or game night.
