With Tassie coming in, I'd like to see 3 again.
There are plenty of Aussie spots around, aslong as the third slots increases overall league talent or mitigates a decrease from the new Tassie team arriving.
Two, let the sides that finish in last three spots in a ten team league get three the following season.
Exempt from cap
2 imports
1 drafted stash player(u23) or 1 Asian player(any age) or 1 nba prospect
1 marquee Aussie/kiwi
Under Cap - 1.3 mill currently.
7 Aussie/kiwi
3 Aussie/kiwi dp
3 with Jackjumpers coming in as the talent will be a bit stretched with some players returning to Europe post pandemic. They also need to sort out the Next Star Draft Stash issue.
Talent won't be stretched, you’ll see lots of players will come home.

Depends if Didi Louzada is still playing for the kings next year.
2 imports is enough going forward.
Would give Tasmania and this years wooden spoon team 3 imports for 21/22.
Would be alternating the teams that get next stars. Still some teams that haven't had them yet.
Look at a South American player exception so that Sydney can keep Didi as a local.... ok the last one is taking the piss but the first two points look good.
Why would you give special treatment to teams lol

I feel 2 is a better fit. I thought the season Sydney had basically 5 Imports was ridiculous (3 imports, 1 next star + naturalised import) and doesn't give exposure to the young guys coming through. If you look at the talent in the league there’s some really exciting talent coming through, we don’t want them sitting on benches.
On Didi first up performance he's going to nbl1, nba lol.
its clear that 3 imports would improve the league as the current standard of the locals is at its lowest point since the 80's!
2 imports however creates more opportunity for younger locals (hopefully) which hopefully means we find a few more along the way.
The naturalized import part of Jazr comment is irrelevant.
Local standards at tail end of benches admittedly are low
Teys
Dillon
Blagojevic
Stephens
k White
J Bairstow
Jervis
Trist
amongst others.
Heard that they'll go back to 3 next season with Jackjumpers coming into play
The talent coming home will not be on the bench the only guys on the bench this season for locals are the older guys almost out
Having 3 imports doesn't hurt young talent

I think 3 imports makes the overall product much better. (48 minutes would be great too, but a pipe dream it seems)
@ proud - you're bloody right about Cairns.

Crazy idea to give bottom team or bottom few teams an extra import. Teams will start tanking once they know Taney are out of contention. We've seen this movie before.

Do you really want to see Perth with 3 imports plus Cotton???
Perhaps if they reduced the maximum number of marquees to 3, and/or placed a separate (hard?) cap on import salaries??
That would give the powerhouse clubs a choice between a third import and their top shelf marquee.
It would also allow the new and battler teams to get 3 cheaper imports.
the reality is there is not enough good aussie talent for all of the clubs. You have heaps playing in Europe or in the NBA. So NBL has to focus on entertaining games with high quality play = 3 imports.
Next year these guys may no longer be playing:
* NEwley
* Kickert
* Wagstaff
* Jervis
* and more...
There are just not the calibre of young Australian product at NBL level that can replace these guys.
And yes we want 3 imports with cotton as you have a 13 thousand seat venue that the NBL needs to fill. Growth , media etc requires the big town teams to be successful.

There were some very average bench warmers in the 80s. In fact, there were some very average starters in the 80s too. I watched the Wildcats first few seasons and they even beat some teams.

There is very few in Europe of any standard, the same applies to the nba. Yes there is a handful of quality but the others are no good. If you believe otherwise please name them.

I've seen some utter rubbish posted on this forum previously, but this might've reached the top of the pile:
"Two, let the sides that finish in last three spots in a ten team league get three the following season."
Christ.

Having 3 imports does not guarantee you success against teams with 2 imports.
Example, 2018/19 Grand Final Series.
Adelaide two imports this year, Illawarra end last season, Adelaide big last season, Brisbane last season, there are lots of others where imports are taking spots on good or better than average money and are useless. Even Gleeson has chopped them mid season. Five, six seasons ago the kings had Thornton , think that was his name, there have been more that don't cut it. Bottom price imports are not always better than locals.

Marcus Thornton was the guy that got the beer poured on him by a elderly mentally unbalanced man at courtside.
That was the only time Marcus made it to USA news.

It's not a bad idea, conceptually, but would be problematic in practice.
It's fair enough that you might want to stop perpetual challengers (like Perth recently) having 3, but teams can change radically from season to season. New ownership can bring in a top coach and players, and you wouldn't want to give a stacked team an extra advantage.
Paterson and Hopson with donuts, yes imports are good but two is enough. Ten man rosters plus next star if available. Good Australian kids might stay in Australia instead of college, two year contract to see if there nba or nbl players.
League will go back to 3 especially with the Jackjumpers coming into the ladder
