VJBL team numbers

Hi, anyone have any info on the total number of VJBL teams registered compared to last year? Interested to know if numbers have been sustained coming into the new season or whether there has been a reduction in participation at the rep level.

Previously over 1350 teams. This year I believe that there are about 1150 teams. So it seems as though there are about 200 less rep teams / 2000 less rep players.

Yep, 2019 annual report said there were 1325 teams. Based on recent post from BV there will be 1158 teams. Bit of a drop-off, but to be expected. Some clubs have dropped off more than others when you look at registrations across the age groups.

They'll do a big push in 21/22 and get up to 1300+ again

Reckon BV should look closely at those clubs that have had a drop off, ask the question why and support them to re-build or restructure those clubs.

There doesn't need to be more teams. There needs to be less. It’s rep ball not domestic. No club needs more than 3 teams at the u18 level. If there are less teams then the talent available will be higher instead of having kids just making up spots.
U12 6
U14 6
U16 4
U18 3
U20 1 (why is it U21) if clubs can’t make up the numbers for 1 team of 12 scrap it

Nah, good ballers have decided not to play. Majority will be from lower grades, but don't be fooled into thinking good players haven’t decided to just play football or Xbox.
