Says a lot about the league that a kid like Will can come here, play "well" but not exactly set the place on fire, and then get picked up on a deal. Bill Simmons may not respect the NBL but clearly the scouts who know what they're looking at, do.

This year four guys have made the jump - Will Magnay, Jae Shawn Tate, RJ Hampton and LaMelo Ball. Even if you see RJ and Melo is being a part of an anomalous Next Star success that is unlikely to be repeated, the NBL is showing itself as a genuine NBA pathway. The message to players and imports is clear - come here and you will be seen.

Congrats to Will.

Huge ups to Magnay. I thought he had a pretty good season last season, so probably deserves a chance in the NBA.

Realistically, how many minutes a game would a player like Magnay get in the NBA? I'm not too familiar with how deep they run their benches etc.

I think it's fair to say he set the second half of the season on fire you dip stick.

"Definite lock for Boomers now"

... why? Who are you pushing out? Everyone else who is either in the NBA or has played NBA?

How dare anyone put Magnay in a Boomers team without consulting hoops "expert " ME.

Who said he didn't play well??

International basketball is mostly a mental game. If Magnay gets time on an NBA court he will be less likely to buckle on the court in an international game like many of our NBL players have.

Bogut has been great for Australia but I think his time is up.

There has always been talk about who would step up when Baynes or Bogut depart.

Well all I want to know is how a 2 way deal has suddenly made Magnay a "lock" for the Boomers, in a team that is already stacked as his position with plenty of NBA experience? Who exactly has he knocked out of their spot?

Magnay better than Maker already and a lot younger.

NBA only interested in guys that can shoot 3's & block shots. He does the latter well. Can he shoot the 3 ball?

Allegedly a year younger than Maker but I see your point.

People are quick to name Bolden, Maker or broken down Bogut in their teams.

Magnay isn't a lock just yet but has certainly improved his chances.

Fantastic for Will, all the best in the big show.

And fantastic for the NBL as well, a big selling point to imports is that they are noticed here.

Wasn't it Trigger, at the Bris / Cairns game, when he announced (wrongly) that Magnay's 2-way deal was done? Same game he got the 6 swats, (Magnay, not Trigger) I think.

Magnay played very well and has been steadily jmprovng. Still has tremendous upside at only 22. He also has the advantage of being a good size for an NBA PF

G-League schedule is up in the air for next season with COVID going nuts in USA, plus NBA season is condensed so he may get more chance at playing time then normal for a 2-way prospect.

Having said that he has Adams, Hayes and Hernangomez in front of him.
Plus Zion will play minutes at C in small ball lineups.

So could be a weird season for him if G-League games are limited.

They are making him a 4 man.

He would need be a good 3pt shooter to play along side another big.
Positions are pretty fluid in the current NBA so he just needs to work on being as versatile as possible.
