Spirit might be in for a world of hurt tonight.

Might not be too pretty for the Lynx either. Can't remember where I saw it but I believe Ciabattoni is due for a scheduled rest this game as she recovers from her ankle injury.

Think the Spirit will be in a world of hurt tonight and so will Perth. Perth more so with Ebzery beasting last night but appeared to really be the only true scorer for them. If she cant replicate what she did last night then they will lost by 20+. Who can stop Ezi and George as well?

Agree Lynx deserved that win, shame they couldn't keep their composure , Boomers might now be 3 wins from 3 but can’t see them sustaining it if they don’t start spreading those minutes, that was their problem tonight, sore players who lacked intensity, Molloy had two players who didn’t even hit the court another two who played less than ten minutes, in a team of 11 players with one of them being Garrick who is recovering from ankle surgery,, she was clearly limping at half time, Wright looked uneven in her walk, and while George came good with points in the end, she wasn’t moving up and down the court like usual, he’s going to burn them out , so these wins early will be meaningless at the end if they can’t finish.
This is why he can’t get a championship , they will be lucky to finish top four in this condensed season, this will come down to what coaches are smart with using players, not who has the best team..... it’s going to be anyone’s game in another week at this intensity .

My first thought was that the USF call was awful, but it's difficult to tell given the camera was in Brisbane.

The backcourt violation on Emma Clarke when one foot and the ball were both in the backcourt the entire time was an absolute howler though. How can you ref at this level and not know the rules?

Reply #821534 | Report this post

As someone who has never supported Perth in basketball, and has a soft spot for the Boomers, the USF was an awful, but understandable, call, given how referees are instructed. But the defense before the catch was also awful.
At the same time, a young Perth group looked good- handled the Boomers half court offense well.
Interesting team roster for the Boomers. Really don't seem to have strong links with Melbourne/Victoria any more (aside from Ezi). Just seems weird that lots of young Victorians have to leave the state to get decent time on the court.

Hated that USF.

Boomers got lucky to get out of this one. Used up all of their shooting against the Flyers. They reaaally need a point guard too. Really lack composure. Madgen out obviously doesnt help, but even with her, they lack anyone to get them in their offense and just rely on their players being good enough to hit some shots

That's not an USF. The defender made nominal body contact, and the referee didn't even have an angle to see that there was an attempted play at the ball.

The fouls immediately before and after that call had more cause to be deemed unsportsmanlike. I'm sure that the previous foul was dubious impacted the referee's decision, when it shouldn't.

Everyone makes mistakes, including referees, but the lack of conferring from the referees over a pivotal decision when none of them had all the information from their perspective was very poor - that's the part I find unacceptable for a professional league.

Basketball Australia has had to postpone this afternoon's 2020 Chemist Warehouse WNBL Round 2 match featuring the Jayco Southside Flyers and Adelaide Lightning in Townsville (5.00pm local tip off).

On Monday 16 November, the Queensland Government advised the Australian public that anyone who had entered the state of Queensland from South Australia on or after Monday 9 November must self-isolate until they have been tested for COVID-19. The Lightning departed Adelaide at 6:10am (local) on Monday 9 November on a direct flight to Brisbane.

Queensland Health has this afternoon confirmed to Basketball Australia that Adelaide Lightning will need to remain in self quarantine in Townsville until Monday 23 November, having been isolated and confined to their accommodation since Monday afternoon’s announcement by the Queensland Government.

All members of the Adelaide Lightning travelling party have been tested and are awaiting results.

No member of the travelling party or the League as a whole has shown any signs or symptoms for COVID-19.

The League is now meeting to discuss what this means for the 2020 Chemist Warehouse WNBL season fixture, with an announcement to be made in due course.

The Flyers vs Lightning match this afternoon was part of a double-header with the JCU Townsville Fire and Brydens Sydney Uni Flames, which will still proceed as scheduled at 7.00pm local.

Great point , they have that young pg from Spectres sitting there , she may not be Madgen but she's a good point guard watched her control games in NBL1 , why didn’t they play her , isn’t that why they have a bench , seems they don’t really have a floor general, it’s just whoever gets it goes , three times Ezi brought the ball up the floor , not one guard went to get it
Poor coaching really , it will end up costing them, this was a lucky win for them, won’t be so lucky with caps if they don’t have a guard who can take control , caps will have them for breakfast .

I can't check the boxscore because the WNBL has linked the wrong game in their match report, but if the Boomers really shot 0/20 from three then that's a very relevant factor.

Discounting that some of the misses might have resulted in offensive rebounds, that's roughly 15 points below their expected score.

Anecdotally, I do recall George not even looking at shooting a wide-open three late in the game when the shot clock was close to expiring, presumably due to a lack of confidence. She was so open that one of her teammates had to yell at her to shoot it.

Basketball is a different game when you can't space the floor, with or without a PG.

All members of the Lightning group have been tested and are awaiting results while no member of the travelling party or the league has shown any signs or symptoms for COVID-19.

Lightning general manager Tim Brenton, who isn't in Queensland, said the "resilient" group of players would support each other while they wait to get back on court.

I couldn't tell because of what a disgrace the interviewer's clothing was. Like I literally tuned out the whole thing even though she wasn't even in frame for most of the time. Actually the outfit ruined my weekend.

Solid fight by Bendigo but it felt inevitable that the Fire would reel them in. Goulding stepping up with 19 was good to give Lavey & Mijovic some help but it fell away badly after those 3. Just don't have the cattle.

Speaking of not having the cattle, the Lynx tip off vs the Flyers in half an hour.

Tokyo/WC/Asia cup are the next 3 years,
keeping the same 34-37y.os to face teams we lost against the last 2 seasons seems pretty ludicrous.
Beaten by Japan twice, China twice, france once in the last year and Barely got over brazil.

Players like Mitchell and George can no longer keep in front of the guards from Japan, France, USA, Belgium, Spain etc. every team who made the Olympics is a lot different to 2018 ec, I hope they take that into account.

I think the poultry was only $50, and the other $100 was all the mayo that Griffin put on it.

Anyway Burton has copped the fine and will play tonight.
