This seemed more likely than not after listening to Vickerman on 30 June on Overtime.

Given current travel restrictions, would Prather have been allowed to travel here at all? Presumably under some exemption? Even then, wait til training is allowed, then travel with 2 weeks quarantine, then a month hard training- you're talking 2 months from now before United or Prather would've known if he'd passed the medical. Makes sense for both sides.

Hopson would be a perfect fit in the starting 5 alongside CG and McCarron.

Now that Brandt is gone, where does United go? They needed another Aussie-unless they were planning on starting Barlow.

Bottom line they need another good Aussie anyway.

Hopefully Prather can get healthy again because he was a top 3 SF in the league at the Wildcats.

Not exact words but On Overtime, Vickerman said that Prather would need to pass a robust fitness assessment in order for him to remain contracted to United.

Vickerman talked around the issue professionally, but it seemed apparent to many listeners that there was little to FA chance that Prather would be returning.

The pod has been very good in the last few months, particularly for hints at breaking news re signing movements. Mostly Cam Luke and Santa talking, with Homicide in patches ... he defs doesn't talk a great deal.

if United need a centre, do they return to Pledger as a fallback option? Or has that ship sailed?

Vicko was pretty honest. He said that the issue with Prather was always whether he could make it through a full season.

Could he be a sneaaky for Perth???
Keep him on ice, moderate training, until Cotton naturalises mid-season???

Why would Perth go towards Prather?

They are committed down the Blanchfield path. If there is another import it would likely be a 5 as right now its Majok Majok and a hint of AJ.

Prather has hardly played in three seasons, I'd like to see him at Perth but they ain’t that stupid. Melbourne bringing him back last season was already stupid.

Some people just need to grow the fuck up.
Prather won a hat trick of championships, and was over that period the best SF in the league.
Being disrespectful to champion of the game just shows what a pathetic little manchild you are.

Yes, he's become injury-prone, and that probably negates him ever playing a full season again, but that doesn't mean he deserves to be badmouthed by a bunch of idiots who have never accomplished anything.
I don't know if there's any gig out there that would suit him. Maybe just playing exhibition type tournaments, or picking up one of those short end-of-season contracts in Europe when they get going again?

The problem with predicting what Perth may or may not do, is that we don't know when Cotton will Naturalise, and we don't know if the Cats no either.
Obviously good players, like Plums and Cotton himself, DO become available at odd times but you can't plan for that. ANd you can't expect a good quality import to just sit around on their arse waiting, in vague hopes.

Swapping in a new import mid-season when and if Cotton naturalises, requires THREE things:
1) Some informed knowledge of when it will happen.
2) A stop-gap player who is prepared to retire on demand.
3) A decent quality import available and ready.

Prather was a champion player and always will be. A fit prather is valuable on any team.

Cotton will become an Australian citizen on 26 January 2021. We are just waiting for the NBL to tell us when the season will start as there is talk amongst the league that the league will begin in February.

The start date of the season will determine how the dice rolls.

Cheers guys

Prather hasn't been fit for a couple for a couple of years and if Hutchie had not been tight and paid for the insurance they would have gotten rid of Prather 2 years ago when it was clear his knee was stuffed and couldn't get on the court.

Instead they had to eat his contract for two years which held them back from contending.

Prather played one third of Melbourne's premiership year and got back for the GF where was not really that great until game five where he was the difference. He then went to Russia and didn’t play a game followed by the return to United last season where he competed six but again not much use.

He was good at at Perth, not in the Cotton class though but over his whole journey is highly overrated.

WTF?!?!

Prather wasn't a star like Ennis at Perth, but he filled the exact role they needed at the time and obviously did well enough.

Prather a bum????

The guys is a straight out winner.

First year in Perth I thought he was good and made improvements to his outside shot and ball control. I thought he was as deserving of Finals MVP as Martin.

Second year I would credit him with saving the season. That poor guy had to run the offence and carry the ball when Martin and Kenny were both out at the same time. This while being saddled with imports such as Jaron Johnson and Andre Ingram. It was his heroics that limped the Wildcats (yes a negative record) before Cotton arrived.

Third year he performed when it mattered. Yes he headbutted Sobey but thats water under the bridge now.

^^^^ so we agree, one good year for perth, learning in Perth in first season, great for Perth second season and one good game for United in GF. Gleeson got it right to let him go.

As by some previously, overrated.

A still very salty Perth anon above. The reality is Perth offered him more money to come back but he took a pay cut to sign with Melbourne in 2017 instead.

The guy is probably the second best import (behind Cotton) to have played in the NBL over the past decade so show a bit of damn respect instead of shitting on the guy just because he turned his back on the team you support.

Prather's first 3 years in the NBL he won 3 consecutive championships at two different clubs.

By my estimation, Prather is about the 15th best import to play in the NBL over the past decade!

Sad to see he couldn't get his body right though. He's etched into NBL history, I always like seeing imports hang around and play NBL for 4, 5,6+ years. Hopefully we see him again one day. He's 29 so could happen.
