Hawks complete roster with import Justin Simon

The Hawks have recruited "blue-collar" NBA G-League guard Justin Simon as a key piece of Brian Goorjian's defensive armoury for next season.

Simon, 24, played for the Windy City Bulls in the US, an affiliate of NBA team Chicago, where he averaged 12.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.2 steals last season.

Signing means no genuine centre. Not such a bad thing but interesting nevertheless.

They are getting local as injury replacement for grida.

Deng is more a sf, you can guarantee it'll be a pf.

Jois makes the most sense, g league + friends with Harvey.
It might not be but there are little pf options left bar smith Milner.

Jois might get the spot of who he knows but not on what he's shown in G league or nbl.

You've got Bairstow and Froling.
Assuming Grida is on the LTI list, interesting to see who your final player will be.

So so far, no move to pick up Andersen or AJ

If AJ is picked up in Perth, I think I will ask doctor to put me in a coma for a year

This makes the most sense. Grida won't be back till mid season.

6’4 T.Harvey(I)/6’1 E.Naar
6’5 J.Simon(I)/6’7 J.Jessup(NS)/6’2 I.White
6’7 D.Adel/6’8 D.Deng/ - 6’6 D.Grida(Inj)
6’8 V.Jois/6’6 M.Darling
6’9 C.Bairstow/6’11 S.Froling

6’0 L.Dent
6’6 H.Harris

Adel / *Simon

Don't think they’ve signed Simon to bench him.

It’s not Jois.

Bairstow starts at PF but backup C when Froling not on court. Darling and Deng play PF backups.

Their team is full so all they can do is get an early injury replacement for Grida

Adel can play 3-4, Bairstow can play 4-5. They got it covered well, at least on paper.

Wow wafer thin defense. Going to be super easy to score against. Typical Hawks. Good offense. No defense.

offensively the Hawks will put up numbers. Defensively they'll get scored on easily. They needed a big that could defend and rebound. Should have gone after Oliver.

How come Jessup is a next star and Mooney isn't

Conspiracy theorists will always be out there, but Liam Santamaria said that Mooney could have been, however if he was treated as a NS that would open him up to NBL clubs, a risk Perth was not happy to take and therefore signed him as an import.

A club can't go "he'll by my NS thanks". A player that is to be a next star works with the NBL to decide the best location. If you don't want to risk a player going elsewhere, you lock the player up like Perth did.

So does that mean Didi Louzada was shopped around to all 9 teams last season? If so, why was Sydney the best fit for him, and when was it decided rules would be bent just to place him in a team?

Didi nba team wanted him at Sydney under Weaver, pelicans have now sacked their coach so I'd say he’s back at kings again.

where is AJ ??

Why has he not signed with Hawks?

Look at what Goorjian has done with big men in the past - Anstey, DOrge etc
AJ Ogilivy would have done so well under brian

I'd also love to see AJ back at Hawks.

Still got plenty to offer, and less pressure in a reduced roll.

Wouldn't like to be Australian guard on this roster. Can’t see Naar getting to many minutes, Glover & Dech did the right thing by moving elsewhere

Naar had no other options, Illawarra or nothing. In saying all that Naars game will suit Georgean and I think he will be used very well hitting open shooters. I except him to play good minutes and have a very good season.
