United sign Mason Peatling to three-year deal

Development player the first year and then main roster after that.

I'm sure if the staff responsible at MU see that reply they will have to instantly tear up his contract,

'yeah na sorry mate, some dude on a forum without the time, expertise and access to resources that we have to go in this decision called you a bust’

‘It’s all good guys, I completely understand, all the best’

This isn't a great signing but its better than announcing they'd re-signed Smith-Milner

Just logged on to catch up on hoops news. A DP signing for MU gets a thread on here, but the Hawks signing Deng Adel doesn't. Makes sense.

Can someone explain how DP spots work? Why not just sign him to a 3 year deal straight up?

He is signed to a 3 yr deal, only in the first year he will be a DP, ie he's not taking up a senior Roster spot. (Which are limited to 10 for next season.)

DP spots are limited by age (must be under 25 IIRC). They can play but teams can send only 1 DP for road games, and maximum of 2 for home games.
And one they play a certain number of games, they lose their DP eligibility.

Yes, a lot of DPs are there on a trial basis and so only get one year contracts, but a contract like this is a good way of signing up good young talent, but still not using a roster spot initially.

There are a bunch of rules on how DP players affect your salary cap, as well as who can/cant play on gameday. But essentially they are players under a certain age that are signed but sit outside the salary cap. They are there to do exactly what it sounds like - develop.

Altho it is all mixed up this year due to the COVID remix

Got a source on that? I've never heard of that clause before.

There's been threads made for those signings weeks ago. Don’t need another thread just because it was announced

Yet you open it and scroll to the bottom to comment that the post isn't required.

Maybe dont post as anonymous and then people can run past you what posts can be started to avoid your irritation later.

Has anyone signed on a 3 year deal with the first as DP before?

Sounds like United has some more local signings in the works. Otherwise they'd have Peatling as a fully contracted player this year

Is it still an 11 man roster plus DP's this season?

How many DPs can you have? Will JP stay at MU? Assume he is still on a DP?

Yes, Kyrin Galloway just did so with the Breakers and Alex Mudronja did last season with the 36ers.
