Defensive Player of the Year award named after Damian Martin
Clearly they'd decided this long ago and were just waiting for him to retire.

Very fitting, and a great way to honour a player who was never flashy, or a high scorer, but have 100% every minute he was on the court.
"Clearly they'd decided this long ago and were just waiting for him to retire." How do you know that?

Great to hear - it's good to see that Damo's name will still be with the league for years to come.
""Clearly they'd decided this long ago and were just waiting for him to retire." How do you know that?"
Because it happened in about three hours after him retiring. It would stand to reason its because discussed long before today so they can make the announcement on the day he retires to honour him.

Well deserved just as Andrew Gaze is for MVP award.
Don't think it was psychic. Don't think after the announcement Larry made a few phone calls and decided then to change one of the biggest personal awards to Martin then and there.
I think there are too many trophies given out by the NBL. I think instead they should instead name it the Martin Medal
^^^ Sorry... bad grammar above but you know what I mean

Who would the Good Hands Award be named after if it were still around?

The National Basketball League Good Hands honour was awarded annually to a player in the National Basketball League (NBL) between 1990 and 1999. The award was determined by adding assists and steals and subtracting the player's turnover count. After 1999, the award was discontinued.

NBL20: Damo would have come 9th in the good hands award NBL20 with a good hands score of 3.29.
NBL19: Damo would have last won the Good Hands award in NBL19 (4.87 good hands score).
He would have beat Jason Cadee (3.86 good hands score) and Kevin Lisch (3.59 good hands score).
NBL18: If we go back three seasons, Damo would have come second in the good hands award with a score of (4.11). He would have lost to Travis Trice who would have scored 4.22.
NBL17: Damo would have come 4th with a score of 3.59. Cedric Jackson would have won the award with 4.78.

NBL17 - 4th
NBL16 - 5th
NBL15 - 1st
NBL14 - 1st
NBL13 - 3rd
NBL12 - 2nd
NBL11 - 4th
NBL10 - 2nd
Enjoy.

Nice work Luke.
Damn that's a lot of silverware. Plus add three Good Hands Award awards however they looked like.
