36ers to sign Sunday Dech for three years
Mutual option in third year. First tipped by Santamaria.

Adelaide 36ers-Henry
(I)/6'7 J.Giddey(NS)/6'5 A.Mudronja
6’5 S.Dech/6’4 D.Dillon
6’8 J.Mcveigh/6’4 B.Teys
6’11 D.Johnson/6’9 O.Kyei
7’0 I.Humphries/6’9 K.Pinder
DP
6’5 M.Harris SG
Dech play 3 also with Giddey 2, import1
Probably best getting rid of p1 teys, Dillon or kyei. Need a sf import.

Does he have hype?
No one is saying he will be DPOY / MIP / 6MOY.
He has a short but promising body of work so far, and the Sixers hope the ceiling is higher.
Anyway well done Sixers on finding good talent.
Can imagine Hawks fans and BG are screaming 'Poached' about.....now.

As discussed earlier, it is a little strange.
The only hype around Dech, is that he's a promising young talent, and he was uncontracted. Still, interesting that Adelaide came up with the best offer.
Ultimately though, BBallers are human too. Dech worked out with Goorj, so Goorj had ample opportunity to recruit him. Maybe Dech felt the enthusiasm wasn't there?
It's going to be interesting to see how Henry uses his players, so can only hope there has been productive communication between him and JVG.
Also interested to see what role Dech develops into. Perth was developing him as a PG, but maybe he feels more confident as a SG or even SF???
He was never a point guard for christ sake. Players were injured and he filled a void. Not a PG! and watch Adelaide play him in his natural position on the wing

Is this the most "active" that 36ers recruiting has been for many years??
Could be some exciting games coming up in new season.
Copped flack for so long, but things seem to be heading in a positive direction.
Have played with Dech before, he's an incredible defender who can play the PG position but is primarily a 2/3. Strong as shit. Great pick-up for the 6ers. Also a very good lockerroom guy.

This is another "meh" signing from Adelaide. Dech might be 'okay'. Giddey might be a promising young talent. And Humphries might actually be legitimate. But there's nothing here that says to me Adelaide is serious about a playoff run.
They're going with ONE import for some god-unknown reason. They hold onto Teys like a bad smell. I don't see the reason to be excited at the moment.
Sounds like someone will be making way for an import (you'd assume)

With ME on this one.
Great to see youth injected into team but this team is mid table at best.

Would cut Dillon for a cheap import 2/3 - Dillons skill set doesn't fit.
Liam said Obi maybe leaving. Would keep him - his energy with Pinder fits with Johnson and Humphries

As I said, Dech was being developed by Perth as a PG. (Although perhaps you could also say as a "Combo")
The plan was for him to become the backup to Norton when Damo retired.
You piss & moan like an old biddie all you want, but that is simple fact.
Whether he was fully onboard with that idea, I have NFI. Some guys want to run the point, but maybe he feels more natural on a wing?
He was offered a contract with the Cats last season, but knew he was going to be on the end of the bench. Maybe he knew he'd get more opportunity with the Hawks?
And like I said, rather than carrying on like some enraged pedant about where is name should be written in a Hoops post, take a deep breath and just wait and see how Henry chooses to use his players.
Hence him not going to Perth cause he didn't want to play back up point
Not a point D2.0
Just like D2.0 isn't an expert. Clearly doesn’t work in basketball
Dech doesn't register on the interest-meter for me.
Am expecting the 36ers to have paid overs for him. Ok as a bench guy, but a starting spot is a bit rich if you want a ring.

Anonymous 410. You're a numpty and that is a laughable comment. What's your interest meter? Because if that doesn't register then nothing else will. Go look at the bloke when he started for the Hawks last year. He will kill it for the Sixers.
Over rated. I certainly said it last season. Still say it. Happy to be proved wrong.

Save for import choices, I think the 36ers are looking better. Albeit it's a risk lineup there will need to be good coaching and good chemistry with some Import power to get it right

I really desired him back at Perth. PAINS me to such a fine young player going to Adelaide. At least they don't have that buffoon as coach any more.

If he's a starter then you’re odds on to miss finals.

Dech and McVeigh starting
One import
What could go wrong.
But as an Adelaide fan the injection of youth and Wright's departure is reason for optimism.

Olgun:
The Adelaide 36ers are practically done as a roster. This is how I see them lining up; I imagine they'd play largely positionless, with Giddey given a lot of the ball-handling duties.
Import / Dillon / Mudronja
Dech / Teys
Giddey / McVeigh
Johnson / Kyei
Humphries / Pinder

Isaac, I wouldn't be surprised if he's wrong about that though. There has been hints that Kyei might be moving on,which you'd imagine would mean they'd bring in an import.
That line up looks very dodgy at the 3 spot.
If the Mack suggestion is true, I can't see them wasting their good work so far this off season by not making sure they bring in another import to really have a good go this season.

I know people like to use buzzwords, and always claim that there is some completely new way of doing things, but WTF does "positionless" even mean?
Basketball is a game of roles. The roles become specialised because they can. Especially in a league like the NBL.
If their intention was to let a 17yr old kid run the point, then why save your 1 import slot for a PG?
And its a two-edged sword. Henry is trying to rebuild a team. If Giddey is anywhere near good enough to run the point straight up, then he's going to play half a season before going to the US to prepare for the draft. And you're not going to find many players of Mack's calibre, prepared to come here just to carry the drinks for a 17yr old kid.

It's the concept of versatility at the defensive end. You don't have to panic about switching as much when your guards can defend forwards and so on. It works if you have strength or length in your guards and agility from your bigs. They'd still have the idea of positions in terms of moving through a play (as a shorthand name for that components and where they move), but each player could fit in a variety of spots. And at the other end, there's not a fixed shooter - everyone is ideally spacing the floor and running a pick and roll.
Successful teams are tending to have multiple options to distribute the ball - point guards, combo guards, point forwards, etc. I think you're getting too caught up on the names.
Why is someone "carrying the drinks" if they can share the role of distributor alongside scoring? If they back themselves, they'll either be a frequent recipient of the ball or good enough to shoulder most of the point duties and Giddey will be minimised. Would you sign a prodigious young PG and not run at least a strong guard along with him?
