Can the VJBL just cancel the season already?

It seems clear that this season is going to be a wash in its normal form so what are we waiting for?

As someone from around these hotspots areas, I'm more than happy for those from unaffected areas to play basketball if that's what the health advise deems to be the right but despite this, a 'normal' season is impossible to run for all suburbs.

Why don't they cancel the season so we can move on to preparing for next season, getting their bodies right and skilling them up rather than having to keep them in their teams on the remote possibility a season goes ahead.

Ive already seen a shift in focus to skill development away from systems of play now that getting that coveted u12 regional 3 premiership isnt on the cards, which is awesome, but itd be even better if we could all move on and start focusing on skill development for next season, using practice matches, if they're possible, to get game reps in.

You could length the 'spring phase' of next season or run practice games in VJBL's absence and if the Rona does bugger off what would the disadvantage of accidentally starting too early and having a bye next year to decrease load be! So many of VJBL's problems stem from coaches having to win now to get in a grade that's going to develop their kids, you can solve that problem for next season by starting early.

But I tanked my under 16s 7th side down to VJBL 9, we would have smashed those suckers with our sagging matchup zone, all wasted now.

Surely the aim must be to get kids on the court. If VJBL cancel, clubs should run a mini season on Friday nights against clubs from their region. Can't be that hard for the DOC's to arrange that.

It's actually wrong they have allowed this to carry on for as long as they have.

Some clear and decisive leadership would have cancelled the season and allowed Associations to prepare their own term 3 activities or at least proposed some solid alternatives for a changed competition structure.

"While our focus continues to be on a return to local participation, we also understand that there is ongoing interest in the VJBL. At this stage, due to the impacts of the lockdown zones we have decided that the VJBL season cannot commence from July 17. We believe that the VJBL is an important junior representative league for thousands of Victorians; hence we are currently working through a number of options for a potential competition resumption. We aim to provide more certainty about the VJBL in the coming days."

Cancel the damn thing

They are going to avoid cancellation and subsequent refunds to the very last second. Refunding the whole vjbl is going to severely damage bv/vjbl.

Above anon it will also severely effect every Association who have taken fees and indeed supplied uniforms and already paid admin staff from Spring 2019 until March 13. Flow on is huge

VJBL

With the re-introduction of Stage 3 Restrictions for Metropolitan Melbourne, we unfortunately have no alternative but to cancel the 2019/2020 VJBL Championship Season. Further details for associations and the 2020/2021 season plan will follow in the near future.
