I'm embarrassed and disappointed at NBL: Bogut

Bogut just tweeted this. He hinted he'll speak more about it in due course but offered his congratulations to Perth.

Will be interesting to see what he has to say, he's got form from the world cup in going after FIBA!

Getting a bit sick of the pissing and moaning from Bogut. The NBL couldn't have handled the GF series any better IMO.

I don't want to hear any whinging from the Kings after the NBL bent over backwards to get them into the GF this season first with allowing them a fourth import and secondly in allowing them to swap out Kuany Kunay for Xavier Cooks.

Gagf.

Just call it: "Bogut - The latest dickhead thing he's had to say".

His twitter message seems to indicate it is about the lead up to the GF series rather than the result.

So maybe he believes it should have been cancelled before any games were played?

I wonder if he is being revisionist and whether he really would have been okay with that?

Lovebroker, no coincidence but I think maybe he was holding his comments until that was announced to make sure the season was "finished" and therefore he is no longer a player they can sanction because his contract is finished :P

That Age article (#898) is a joke. Even if that verbal agreement was in place (which the other two parties deny) that is surely changed by the Kings refusal to play. They withdrew. The league and the cats wanted to play. If that agreement was as simple as Smith appears to think it was then all any team had to do if they were 1:2 down (or 0:2) is refuse to play and guarantee a drawn series and no title awarded. If the league had nixed it on health and safety grounds (and both teams wanted to play on) I would agree it is incomplete and no winner. But it was made clear by all, including Sydney, that it was the Kings who withdrew from the series.

There is no way that agreement, if ever in place, would have had the intent of allowing one team to withdraw from the series so as to guarantee themselves that they wouldn't lose the series - that is ridiculous. The Kings actions clearly voided the agreement (if it ever existed). I think Smith is just furious that the league refused to call it off when the Kings asked them to thereby painting the Kings into a corner where they had no choice but to announce themselves as the instigators of the cancellation and effectively awarding the series to the Wildcats at the same time, which the league has rightfully upheld.

There is a precedent. A few months ago more than have our team were crook and we could not field a team for Tuesday night domestic. I called the association and told them we could not play because of illness, and to our disgust they not only made us pay for a walkover, they gave the win to the other team. I feel for Sydney. At least they did not have to pay.

"More garbage from the Kings owner."

Seriously, are we really that desperate that we need wankers like him in the league?

People always want to scream about Perth's rich backers, and to a large extent its true. In the 90's we had Kerry Stoakes, and for the last decade plus, we've had Dr Jack Bendat. Both extremely successful billionaire businessmen.
And neither of them have ever carried on like the dickheads we seem to have running other teams.

People laugh about the Cashed-Up Bogans in Perth, but at least we don't have one owning our club.

Bogut is such a hypocrite. He calls out the league office for not being proactive in times as uncertain as these.

History shows he doesn't shy away from expressing his view about shit he has little clue about. If he was so knowledgeable, he would have said something. But he didn't until after-the-fact, because he's a hypocrite and not nearly as smart as he believes.

This is entirely about his frustrations regarding Perth being awarded the title.

Bogut and Smith belong together.

So why did they just make a decision instead of contacting both the NBL and the Wildcats and say, look, this is what we're about to do, are there any solutions we can come up with. They just decided and informed the other parties, not sure what their gripe is about?!? Those players have already been playing and travelling so they shouldn't be in contact with their elderly family members like the rest of the world. I saw a girl show here engagement ring to her grandfather through the window of his nursing home room, and another son park in front of his dad's window and call him every day while they look at each other. Incredibly sad, and I'd be pretty worried if those King's players have had contact with their elderly family members after this.

The embarrassment is with the Bogut and the Kings.

Game one - Kings had no issue with a crowd.

Wildcats win and then they demand no crowd in game 2 even with no directive for the chief health officer.

Game 2 - Kings win but don't demand to end the series.

Game 3 - Wildcats win.

Then the Kings decide not to play with no directive from the chief health officer.

Then the owner claims that the NBL and Wildcats of breaking an agreement that if the virus stop the series, then their would be no result.

The Kings not the virus stopped the series as they had little chance of winning.

"Bogut described a meeting that had differing views going in — the 35-year-old said he was for playing on when he entered the discussion — but one that had near-unanimity by its conclusion, with a particular focus on the imports who needed to travel home, as well as the players with ill family members."

So Bogut admits he was on the same page as the NBL. Then to cite ill family members of his own teammates and imports on his own team worried about being able to travel home as factors to change his mind. Seems a bit rich to then complain about the NBL's position to continue to play game 4.

Further to that he cites imports' grandparents with 1-2 years left and they NEED to get back.

Ummm....where was that 'need' 1, 2,3 months ago?

The team got solidarity behind their imports which is great but it cost the Australian team mates any chance. I'd think most of the Australian players would’ve wanted to play on but followed like sheep. At a guess after game three Bogut didn’t have a lot left, looked injured.
