Higgins has clear vision of Sixers on the rise

BRENTON Higgins is genuinely excited about the forthcoming NBL season and his Adelaide 36ers' chances ... but he knows something the rest of us do not.

"Trust me. We'll have a much better team than last year," the Sixers' chairman assured yesterday.

"We are working feverishly really bloody hard. We know we have an intelligent fan base and we have to put a team out that we know will be competitive."

Correct. Last season's team was the worst Adelaide's management has assembled and was duly bundled out of the playoffs in the first round.

Open in-fighting between the club's administration and the team as highlighted by a staff post on the club's website criticising coach Phil Smyth and further player losses hardly has engendered off-season supporter optimism.

the article says that they have plans for whichever way catt goes, but he's already going! why won't they just say that? i don't think it's very fair to try and trick people!

"Trust me. We'll have a much better team than last year," the Sixers' chairman assured yesterday."

Returning from 2003/04:
Brett Maher
Dusty Rychart
Mark Nash
Jacob Holmes
Oscar Forman
Darren Ng (likely)

Gone:
Charles Thomas (15PPG, 5RPG, 6 APG)
Martin Cattalini (23PPG, 6RPG, 3APG)
Jason Williams (7PPG, 3APG)
Nathan Hawkes (3PPG)

Likely pickup so far:
Paul Rees (4PPG, 3RPG)

Simplistic, but we're still missing: 44PPG, 8RPG, 12APG, and we've got three spots left. To have an improvement over last season, I think we're going to need two big starting scorers and someone has to hand out at least 7-8 assists per game.

I think the article is what is commonly referred to as a "fluff piece".

The 6ers are trying to engender some positive publicity without actually saying anything.

The fact they are saying the "team is going to be exciting to watch"...well bloody tell us, THE FANS.

The people who you want to be spending MORE THAN EVER BEFORE on season tickets.

Don't tell Boti, who wouldn't give a shit one way or the other, he is gonna slam the club at any chance he gets anyway.

I forwarded the Eurobasket.com link to the NBL and it's included in their latest article:

Sixers confident of improvement

Also in Boti's column this morning:

"The NBL hopes to launch a 30-minute highlights package / current affairs-style television show, most likely on Ten..."

The site nblfantasyland.com is cited as a source, but doesn't appear to exist.

It's on page 103 of The Advertiser, under the article on Higgins, if anyone's interested.

Haha,

I should learn not to trust the newspaper.

Would have been nice if all the talk about basketball on Free To Air had actually done something though.

I guess "Hoops SA" is going to have to fill the gap.

Though, after the channel 10 news piece last night, Boti's article looks very poor in comparison, hey?
