New Sixers coach

As a more specific thread who would be in the works to take reigns?
KB in mix but would it be better to have total fresh start.

New blood. Not all players from the city etc do some fucking research, take some time, and don't be lazy with this. On the flip side, Adelaide will take the cheapest easiest most convenient option. So a local will probably be chosen. Still curious what JVG is doing here?

JVG certainly started to get the crowds coming back in Sydney but his selection of players was atrocious, get a coach to select his own squad and let JVG run the business. You need quality Australian players first and select your imports around them. Perth has been doing it for years. Damo, Knight, Wagstaff, Brandt, Kay, Norton etc. not all stars but very solid players.

Not exactly sure who you are talking about, the only candidate I can see on the bench would be KB, but I do know SA has had unprecedented numbers of kids at the AIS and head to levels of colleges never seen before. It is wise for Joey (or any new coach if he does decide to go) to ensure they can recruit these guys back to Adelaide through their relationships, without getting into a bidding war with the big market teams.

Sponsors and fans love home grown and developed talent and there is a much different culture that can be built when you are playing for the team you grow up supporting, in front of your family and friends at home.

I also think the 6ers need to be engaged and resourced to support upcoming elite kids into their program to support their development through workouts, training with and against pros, and in some kind of academy program, that can also help them to the right colleges, then hopefully back home. It seems to be sixers are on the cusp of getting a lot of local guns back and bringing more through thanks to Joey's work. Let's hope Joey stays on, he has done a great job with OK talent the past few years and hope he gets to reap the benefits of all the kids he has mentored and helped develop too

Directionless game tonight.how is coach expected to get best results when this is now exposed as the organisation apparent apathy towards team.
Need strong decisive leadership... a could not care less attitude hung over EC tonight... yes its professional sport but all the talk this week did was dent morale. And if joey now does coach on next season as per contract management better support.otherwise bite the bullet and move JW on.

Whomever is coach needs to keep an entertaining run and gun style IMO. That's the 36ers way - the difference between 36ers being brilliant and 36ers being awful is your Creek, Sobey type who could stretch out their hands and cause turnovers. 36ers have never been slow and methodical (except for the Clarke era where they stifled all talent and let the defence barely have to move as they tried to work out how to run their complex offence DURING actual games)

To that extent, someone like Drmic is our cattalini type of player.

It’s possible things could look a hell of a lot better with a few tweaks: first is just how awful we are at defending the hole: unless we find a good big defender that’ll need to go to an import spot.

Second is our awful three point shooting: unless we find a good aussie shooter that’ll need to go to an import spot.

Straight up you look at that and go we can’t afford to keep Moore. If we can’t find a good Aussie then we also can’t afford to keep Griffin. If we do, Griffin may be worth keeping IF we smarten him up. That’s a big if.

Largely agree with that KET. If you just plugged a swingman the calibre of Newbill into Moore's spot, it covers a lot of shortcomings and opens up the game for players like Drmic, McVeigh, etc to contribute more.

Griffin has been very frustrating. His athleticism, shot blocking and free throw shooting are all exactly what the Sixers need next to DJ. But he just can’t put it all together most weeks. Once again, if we had a scorer like Newbill, there would be less pressure on him to score as much and he could be more of a complimentary player.

I think one of Joey’s shortcomings has been his resistance to using the three point shot as a staple of our offence. It has changed a bit this year, but for most of his tenure, we have not recruited the best shooters and it shows in our results. There was a time when the 36ers were the best run and gun, bombs away three point shooting team in the league. It would be nice to see that return with the next coach.

Every player has to understand and play a bit defence, the Sixers have a lot players that don't understand either. To many over paid players that only think scoring first, now this will keep the commentary talking you up, certainly homicide and Heal who didn’t play defence but it doesn’t get you many W in the win column. Both Heal and CJ Bruton didn’t play any sort D till Goorjian got hold of them and then the became winners.

If Joey is going to stay you had better get Nielsen or Forde as your assistants with the promise of top job in two seasons and learn defensive structures.
