Does anyone know what happened at EP with Ettridge?

I heard they would not let him work with anyone other than the SBL team. Wouldn't be another team that doesn’t allow the head coach to work with the Div 1 and WABL sides. Asst part of the problem , so he walked after discussions got nowhere. This is just heard on the grapevine, so can’t guarantee accuracy.

Great to see Caleb White signed at the Coug... Wait Redbacks, he's signed at Perth. I wonder what that pic was about then!?

Caleb blindsided Cougars. Said to announce and pulled after it had gone out. Was playing for free too.
Not sure they want someone who plays those games anyway..

So Cockburn wanted him to play for free, and he blindsided them? LOL
Did he sign with Cockburn? Or did they go early......

Cockburn put out a media alert on social media saying he had been signed, without anything actually being signed, then Perth got him to put pen to paper. Dog act or stupid move by arrogant ceo not ticking all boxes before releasing info... I'll lock in the latter answer please Eddie. #CougarDenOrKarmaDen #AmateurHour

Couple of new rookie imports signed by the Buccs and Suns
https://www.australiabasket.com/Australia/news/615440/Geraldton-Buccaneers-tab-rookie-Kyle-Roach-in-his-first-year-in-pro-basketball
https://www.australiabasket.com/Australia/news/615441/Kalamunda-Eastern-Suns-sign-rookie-Albert-Almanza-in-his-first-year-in-pro-basketball
16pts a game is a great get if your not paying him.
As an import though you would have to pass on him.
Nothing to see, Cougs tried to get him for free, almost had him and now reds are paying him so of course he will go play for the money.
Move on.
The issue isn't that he went to Redbacks over Cougars, it’s that Cougars announced that they had signed him when they hadn’t.. Looks very unprofessional - even for a semi-professional league.

TT Logic 101:
1. Announce Signing / Boost my own ego some more
2. Post "signing" to social media page / head to former radio station employer page to see if any mention of me on there still for more ego boost
3. Watch "signing" go to Perth and then panic so beg signings new club not to make it public until my ego figures out how to put the blame on anyone but myself like I always do (See underperforming wabl coach / underperforming state coach / overrated radio 'personality')
4. Go back to previous employers page to see if they currently have any vacancies after being told by current employer ego not meeting standard required and services no longer tenable

16 pts a game is a great pickup for spiders if paying min import sports visa.
if paying 750 per game (or more) plus accom plus car plus plus plus plus ... its not
... surprised caleb didnt go for the free option of dodgy tourist visa with a few paper bag cashies and free pies from the cougars canteen.
It does prove what everyone has been saying for years though, Cockburn doesn't pay players.
haha, they are paying Travers for a start and pretty sure import will be paid!
They can pay players but its a fixed budget. Coaches need to fit players within in and there is consultation with a panel.
Would be the smallest budget in the league by a long way to.
oh so the DO pay players then?!?!? so why do they keep saying they dont

Are we forgetting the place nearly shut it's doors less than 5 years ago?
This place is full of so much hate, not sure why I still even read anything..
Travers is a professional athlete so of course he's getting paid you idiot. I bet Rockingham offered him money as well. I’m guessing the import is a pro as well. Why wouldn’t they pay them. And to be honest, who gives a shit.
Also, to the keyboard coward who keeps going with the personal attacks, make it a fair fight you little bitch and put your name up. At least that way we can see if you have any credibility. I’m guessing not.

Imports aside let's break it down...
Lost:
Durnin (solid to elite)
Ballantyne (6th man to solid)
Lawrence (bench)
Gained:
Smith (solid but hasn't played in a while)
Honey (bench)
Finished 6-20 in 2019 and had an elite import (Stewart) and a solid import (Smith). So I'm struggling to see the improvement when you break it down.
Only notable loss is Durnim who is decent player for sure.
But you cant call 15pts/7rbs at 40% in a bottom 3 team Solid-Elite.
Ben Smith however is easily in the Elite category.
31yrs old so plenty of solid basketball left in him.
Imports = Imports

Giants have their complete roster on their website. If their imports turn out okay, they will be pushing top-6, maybe top-4.
the giants stocking up with past string mandurah players: Klasztorny, Lawrence and Ballantyne. They also got Garang from Redbacks. What's the go with these boys moving out to Kal?
they also have Kyle Tipene from South Australia via Queensland. Another one-and-done interstate prospect the Giants love so much, whether it be David Humphries from last year of Holloway and Atem Atem from previous years

Armour out most if not all of this season with knee injury
Lewis Thomas to possibly add for Willetton. He has been training with them, not sure if signed.
Would Hussey actually be happy coming off the bench??
"You can't call a guy who hasn't played SBL for three years and has two stuffed ankles elite"
Of course you can.
Elite I would say is top 10 in points & top 5 rebs, I reckon he would be close to that.
15&7 is not in top 40 in scoring or 20 in rebounds.

Predictions had Davis back at the Wolves, thought he was gone? Can anyone confirm?
Worthington and Phillips are done.
Do the Slammers have any signings incoming or are they planning on rolling out a bunch of 5'7 kids and having a winless season
Pozoglou to Perry Lakes? Haven't seen that anywhere. Is Parsons doing this review?
If Willo can solve the PG problem, they are definitely top 2 contenders. Lewis Thomas is a big pickup along with Burke

An interesting summary by Lukosios on a SA Premier League thread about the SBL not joining NBL1:
https://www.hoops.com.au/forum/46864-premier-league-to-nbl1-central/#p792198
so SBL missed the boat again and SA are going NBL1 Central!
Pity especially as Lukosius and others seem to say it is mainly a rebrand nothing much more required form clubs. But the NBL brand and national final would have been great
Couple questions.
Maybe for Lukosius.
When will the National Championship be played?
Who covers costs for the SBL Premiers to fly to this National Tournament.
Who also covers extra players costs, namely imports who will remain in country longer then expected?
Last thing you want is all the Championship teams to be missing the imports for this tournament.

National Champs is the week after the SBL grand final.
Costs either covered by the SBL themselves, or through an equalisation payment from the clubs.
If your club is lucky to make the National Champs, the least of your problems will be keeping your imports here for an extra week. And if the club has an issue with that in a financial sense, then they need to have a good hard look at themselves and how they are managed.
Lukosius you been around along time, nothing surprises anymore with Imports.
the issue wouldnt so much be with imports staying an extra week but it could be an issue for NBL players or clubs
NBL players in the SBL? You guys aren't exactly flooded with NBL talent. A quick check on boxscores and you have to go back to 2014 just get find any Nbl players who played in the GF.
Oh and before anyone chimes in - DP's do not count!
2019 - Geraldton vs Joondalup = 0 Nbl players.
2018 - Perry Lakes vs Joondalup = 0 Nbl players.
2017 - Perth Redbacks vs Joondalup =0 Nbl players.
2016 - Cockburn vs Joondalup = 0 Nbl players.
2015 - Joondalup vs Southwest = 0 Nbl players.
2014 - East Perth vs Geraldton = 2 Nbl players.
Winning SBL programs are not built with buying Nbl talent.
I would say the high quality of good Australians in the SBL is very very thin.
Top of my head -
Nelson
Fields
Timms
Prue (old but still preforming)
Hire
Scott
Steindl
Not a lot after that...
Maybe Hussey
Would Include Hunt/Dech/Vague/Ross but doubtful if they play in 2020.
greg hire
Shaun Redhage (naturalised Australian)
pozoglu is rumored to be playing this season
steindl played some games last season. will he play in 2020?
ryan godfrey
kyle armour (although is now injured)
Alex Ducas was great for Buccs now at st Marys. Unsure if he will play in college offseason
Travers was big for rockingham, now with wildcats and will play for cougars
Mike Vigor (plays in pro leagues internationally as well as SBL)
Tevin Jackson has that potential if he can stay healthy. Will be at redbacks
Ben Purser to that list. He's better than half the lists mentioned.

You guys aren't exactly flooded with NBL talent. A quick check on boxscores and you have to go back to 2014 just get find any Nbl players who played in the GF.This doesn't exactly do well to counter the point that NBL players are often conflicted out of the end of the season.
Greg Hire was on Joondalup's roster in a couple of those years you list, but didn't play in the grand final because he was with the Wildcats, who are usually playing their regional pre-season games on SBL grand final weekend.
Wrong. He was on the bench with a broken finger or thumb

Wrong. He was on the bench with a broken finger or thumbWas he? I remember him playing in an earlier round of the playoffs.
Either way, the Wildcats have been playing pre-season games in regional areas on grand final weekend the last few years, so any Wildcats players who would otherwise have played in the grand final obviously wouldn't end up playing, so the numbers in that post don't really indicate anything.
Just ask Perry Lakes how great it's was come finals when the Wildcats pulled rank.
2017 Redbacks - Redhage, Nelson, Wagner and Vigor
Yes.. but seeing how he wasn't playing the following year , so no clash with preseason. That’s the whole point of this
Hawks have announced both imports now. Look to be adding some depth.

Terrell Carter (import), Tyler Livingston (import), Michael Lay
KEY GAINS:
Jay Washington (import), 2ND IMPORT
PROJECTED STARTERS:
Keller, IMPORT, England, Richardson, Washington
ONE-SENTENCE SUMMARY:
Finished 1-25 in 2019, lost arguably their best player in Michael Lay, and no signings announced yet for 2020 apart from a journeyman import - new coach Mark Worthington will need to pull a few rabbits out of his hat.
Big improvements - Perth Redbacks
Key Out - Lako
@The Insider will rockingham go for an import big over a guard? apart from ritchart who else do they have that is capable of playing big minutes in the 4/5?

Ritchart hasn't played a full season since he has been here, and Hire will be missing from time to time with other commitments. After that, they have the fat Beard brother, and Durnin and Justin Beard can play the 4 as a last resort. So yeah, they will be hoping for uninterrupted seasons from Ritchart and Hire.
oh yeah forgot about hire lol...
bit rude calling someone fat.. especially on a forum behind an anonymous name.. no need really

London an ex-teammate of Ben Simmons

have east perth found a replacement head coach for Etto?
from their website
"East Perth Basketball wish to advise the departure of Ben Ettridge from the SBL program
We are happy to announce the Luke Coburn has taken up the role. Luke brings with him enthusiasm and the ability to work together in our movement going forward
We will continue to work with Luke and the Coaching staff to ensure we are ready for season 2020."
Haha did Ben quit? Obviously didn't think East Perth could get to the grand final and help him choke again.

Ettridge didn't quit, he wanted to develop the youth and Symons wanted complete control and told him to go if he couldn't align with him. East Perth is a mess

The Eagles seem to get a new coach every year or two. Why is it so? Mens and womens teams.
there is also another version that says he got fired
who knows the real truth of the matter
What have Lakseide been up to in the offseason. Men and women
not sure whats happening with their sbl and wsbl programs but a big loss to the program seeing simon peterson take his talents to south beach, aka hammy hill, to join the #cougarfamily
Ettridge didn't quit, he wanted to develop the youth
That could be the funniest post anyone has ever written on this forum!!
" seeing simon peterson take his talents to south beach, aka hammy hill, to join the #cougarfamily....."
Another Lakeside stalwart has to. Alot of departures at the church.
Still not convinced the Slammers actually have a team in 2020. Can anyone prove that wrong

I suppose we will see at the regional blitz next weekend.
Have Slammers had a team since they made the GF?
2017 was a good year. They can't keep local talent so only have a chance with a load of Americans

mikalya prini
amber land

WOW... W$BL Wolve$
+ the very best junior talent poached from other clubs.
if they can finally win it (they de$erve to) ... its not because they developed their junior program to do so.

It's all well and good bagging clubs for poaching and not developing their own, but players can say no. We also don’t know if a player jumps to make life easier for them eg. Uni or job. You can say develop your own, but the talent isn’t always there, it’s a different comp now and sadly 1 club players are going to be something we see less of.

Scratch Match tonight down in Rockingham sees the Flames host CJ and the Spiders. Be very interesting to see who suits up for both teams as you doubt either team has imports here yet. Tipoff at 630 for anyone making the journey south
How do you view it if the talent IS there and they still poach?
I understand clubs like Goldfields, Slammers or Buccs maybe needing to buy players in, they have much more limited pool to select from. But clubs like Joondalup who are probably one of the leading junior clubs in Western Australia stating that "the talent just isnt there" is probably not in context

Rockingham 71 Perth 86
* Perth at full strength with Carlwell, Jackson and young shooter Coppin leading the way
* Flames missing J Beard, Durnin, Hire, Heyer and Ritchart. Hussey, C Beard & Ciabatoni best for Rocko
* Anyone who bought the Brisket burger from the solitary food van at the game were the real winners
Is it poaching if a club accepts players from second rate clubs that don't respect the players?
Treat players with respect and they will stay, it isn't that complicated reddies
