4 on 4 the future of basketball?

Despite being one of the main backbone rules of basketball, could one day 4 on 4 be a better alternative to 5 on 5? It's all about spacing now and launching 3s. Often at training 4 on 4 is implemented as a small side game to get good spacing with a post thrown in later, normally in the dunker position or running up to set the ball screen. Why not get rid of the 5th. With athletes so fast and long these days it will open up the floor even more.
3 on 3 has morphed into another game with its pros and cons but it's a half court game and really geared at 1 on 1.
Anyway, just a thought, probably up there with a 4 point line, and some of those wacky North Korean rules that they have.

8 v 5. Refs might as well be on one team.
