36ers vs Breakers, Dec 29

Both teams in the mix for that fourth spot on the ladder but only if they can pick up games against the other middling teams. Will the Breakers carry in form or fatigue from their previous game?

That's what makes today's game really interesting the Breakers are playing better than we are at the moment. However we're 2-0 against them this season and last time at home we flogged them.

The last couple of Sixers losses have been really bad losses comfortably beaten by lowly Illawarra at home in front of the biggest crowd ever in SA and then losing to Cairns in a game we too never looked like winning.

We're they aberrations or a sign of something else? I think it could be the latter.

Breakers should win, in some form, have shown some heart. Adelaide haven't been good, and were really exposed the last 2 games for what they are.

Having said that, neither of these teams would beat cairns in a 3 game series, so I really hope whilst these tier 2 teams beat up on each other, the taipans cruise into 4th and make some noise.

NZ beat Cairns before all the injuries so I don't think that’s the case.
This should be a good game that could go either way.

Adelaide would be as nervous as a sheep on a cliff.

The Breakers picked the pockets of an inept Bullets unit on Friday. They were in the red all game, except for the final 8 secs when a 3 point dagger pierced the heart of the Bullets.

The Sixers need to play the full 40 minutes today to have any hope of a win to stay in touch with the top 4

Randle dominate. Needing some support DJ or Drimic to bring us home. Breakers very ordinary defensively. Sixers ball moment looks great when p l Ayers are moving off ball. Big harry important in creating space with on ball. Needs play more. Liking Griffin intensity. Teys very unrated but is very much glue. Small things he does to force errors and getting shooters better shots.
Sixers Looney tune uniform very ordinary unless I am missing something

Adelaide may have done better if Randle had concentrated on putting the ball in the hoop rather than trying to kick his feet out and draw the foul on multiple three attempts.

Hopson obviously a star, but Henry has been dynamic and you have to give credit to the Dan and Mody circus. I think it's starting to show that there is some method to the madness.

FWIW, home teams are more likely to win this season, compared to last season. To this point of this season, home teams have won 59% of games, compared with 53% last season. Home teams' average margins are 3 points larger per game, than they were last season. To this point last season, 4 teams had winning home records and this year 8 teams have winning home records.

This Sixers team is ridiculously frustrating to watch. No one plays defence at all. If Griffin can't get a good look at a big block he will just invite the player in for a layup.

Daniel Johnson would be better just waiting down the offensive end. Anytime someone goes near him he moves out of their way. If he was putting up 40 points a game you could look past his shit defence but that's not likely considering he can't post up a point guard. If he gets doubled that's a turnover automatically with either a shit pass or a light breeze knocks the ball loose.

Switching everything on defence has never worked for this team. You can't switch with a 5ft8 point guard and centre who ushers the opposition to the ring.

We're just a heartless bunch and with Randle now flipping the switch to hero ball we haven't got a chance. Randle deserves to be benched but I don't think Joey will do it.

It's no surprise after Randle pulled out a couple of close wins since then he's been hogging it not much ball movement and dominating the offence and we've gone 0-3 since.

Griffin never should've been kept and Ramone Moore's just embarrassing himself out there now too. Neither of those two will ever be seen in the NBL again.

Our locals are crap and when you've got one good but seriously flawed import out of three it's too much of a hurdle to overcome. We're only half a game above Brisbane for second to bottom on the ladder now with Perth coming to town next they'll punch a hole in us.

Sixers are just bad, Drimic is back to the old Drimic, average and it's made the Sixers back to bad. Johnson is ok but the rest squad is poor. Sixers need a clean out for next season. Keep Kyei, Johnson, Drimic. Clean the rest out.

I'd like to see us 'trade' Drmic to SEM for Madgen. I'm done with Drmic too many games he does nothing he would probably like to go back home to Melbourne (I can't see him re-signing with us) and Madgen has been a bit of a bust with SEM although I suspected he would be. Madgen gets to come back home to finish his career in front of family & friends and maybe squeeze a little bit more out of himself.

Obi Kyei needs to go also,he can't make a bucket from beyond 3 feet.

All I consider keeping is Randle, DJ, McVeigh, Drmic and Dillon. I wouldn't overpay for Drmic either. Randle can't be blamed for playing hero ball with this roster, nobody besides him and DJ can get a consistent bucket. Randle is trying to win us the game because nobody else has proven to be able to help him out consistently over the season. Moore has been a huge bust and Griffin has no real desire to play D unless it's a hero block.

Kyei & Dillon can't be blamed for any of this they're state league players. Kyei wasn't brought in to start Griffin & DJ are so bad defensively you just couldn't start them together that's why Kyei is starting. Dillon has looked okay in the limited minutes he's gotten but his best is behind him.

We screwed up on signing Griffin in the first place and the other two were plucked from obscurity likely because of the Creek situation.

McVeigh is only going to be ordinary at best, you have to be more than energy guy, don't listen to the commentary they play favourites. Kyei plays defence and should be coming off the bench, he should be able to learn how to make a shot. Randle while still has talent is not taking this side anywhere, certainly at his age. Sixers need a rebuild, certainly if Joey going to see out his contract, new young blood required and get some athletes who can defend. They should bring in a good assistant who can give the side a different look and help put the team together. The league is better with a competitive Adelaide.

"I'd like to see us 'trade' Drmic to SEM for Madgen.”

Can't agree with that one Zodiac! Madgen’s almost 35. Drmic is good defensively and on the boards and has started to show better offensive potential this season. He just needs to be given the ball in the right situation.

He’s not a spot up 3pt shooter who can just make a shot once a quarter when someone remembers to pass the ball. He’s actually much better attacking the basket off one dribble. Once he gets that going his three point shot seems to fall more often.

Beantown,

It does deserve a little bit of a WTF response and Drmic is a better player than Madgen too but I'm working on the premise that I think it's unlikely Drmic comes back.

Assuming the second year of Madgen's contract is a team option I think they could sound out to Drmic beforehand to replace him leaving Madgen to sign elsewhere maybe even finish up back home. The Sixers need some genuine mongrel too and Madgen's got that.

The problem with bringing in Randle late is they couldn't structure the team around him.

Griffin is a liability defensively which is why Kyei has to start. The sixers also lack shooting around him - Moore and Dillon.

Randle is still good but has flaws and needs the right players around him. This team is similar to 2015/16 - needs to be more like 2016/17

Simply unless we change one or both of our imports we will be lucky to win another game .
Not been anti Joey but we have defence structure only that everyone chases everyone off the zone and nobody actually defends their area.
As for our offence we simply don't have a system especially now Randle back to hogging .
Moore gets it and runs in circles .
Each game you watch other teams run their plays and get easy cuts to baskets or open threes.

White comes into the game late, actually did a good job and hustled hard, trying to get steals, charges, rebounds, etc and actually hit a couple shots and we got back to within a couple points when he was on. Joey subs him out for Moore who wasn't even good enough to throw bricks and playing terrible, we start looking woeful again and the NZ lead pushes back out to 10. Thats a bad decision. White should have been rewarded. The DP would be better than Moore as they would atleast have some energy.
DJ moves out of the way when defending. He was on 1 foul at one point and defends not to get a foul. How selfish can you get? Bad team basketball. Sixers passing is slow, they don't communicate. Props to the Breakers as they came here with intent and stayed together, although having Hopson does help, I would say he is one of the best imports I have seen. He could probably score 50 if he wanted but share's the ball and gets looks to his team. Randle does nothing like that and holds passes back, stops player movement and passes only when he has to.

If you want to be a competitive team, you really have no business losing at home to the Hawks and then the Breakers without Webster (though you could argue they're better than their record and might be better off without him). Got Perth and then Sydney coming up.

How has Moore gone from solid complementary import to contributing less than White?

Isaac, I feel like Moore is a step slower this season. Don't know if he is carrying a long-term injury or what it is? At his best, he was lightning quick, could beat his man off the dribble and attack the basket. But this season he can't even do that and he has now lost all confidence to boot. It's getting too late to cut him, but he really has no business playing NBL right now.

Last couple of games Sixers ball speed has been slow. They are slow to see and execute passes. Teys was open on foul line for a couple of seconds gesturing for the ball before Randle finally sees him, uses him and he gets the bucket, just before defence closed in. McVeigh open under the bucket for eternity before his is finally seen and used. Randle drives and has an open pass through the defenders which he only does at the last moment giving defenders a chance to stop. This happens constantly with the Sixers at the moment. The instint to pass is not there. Players move, the guy with the ball looks but is not really looking for the pass, they miss so many their movement becomes slow and predictable.
Watching Hopson fire the ball to the other side of the court, finding open players looked so easy to him.

Yep it's Randle reverting back to his old ways that is killing this team. Look at our scores these past three games in the 80's. Our defence is woeful our only hope is making everyone on the floor guardable and trying to blow them off the court. Joey alluded to this after the Illawarra game about how selfish 'we' played.

Unfortunately this is all playing out exactly how I thought it would a leopard can't change his spots. Randle knows the owner loves him so he can afford to thumb his nose at Joey and the rest of the team and do as he likes. He was on good behaviour the first half of the season distributing well being a good facilitator and we were a much better team for it, most of our players were offensive threats (even Teys) and we were racking up big scores with a positive W/L record.

Randle's decided now he's just going to play his game and look after himself he wants his option picked up for next season and if not wants good money elsewhere and is practically daring Joey to bench him.

It's a fucked situation it hurts watching it happening and nothing being done about it in some ways I hope Perth really do put us to the sword tomorrow night to try and bring this to a head before our season is completely over but at the same time Perth are in the business of winning championships not going all out to pump teams like us so they'll likely put the cue in the rack once the lead is big enough.
