Olgun:
The catalyst for the Hobson signing, I'm told: immense pressure from the NBL (@illawarramerc had a great story on it yesterday). The league put its foot on the throat of the Hawks’ ownership, forcing a signing ASAP. Obviously the NBL wants LaMelo’s team to be somewhat competitive

I'm glad the NBL isn't content to see teams perform badly. Is this too much interference though? Where's the money coming from? Can the Hawks afford this?
Hobson, a 32-year old former New Mexico standout, joins the Hawks after spending last season with Fiat Torino in Italy. In 22 games, Hobson averaged 12.7 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists on 46.1 percent shooting from the field. Most important to the Hawks, though, is that Hobson shot 38.2 percent from three last season.
After being drafted with the 37th pick by the Milwaukee Bucks in 2010, Hobson spent four years in the G League after making only five appearances in the NBA, all coming in the 2011-12 season.
He look good, a bit like Tate/Space Cam he could work well with melo.

I could understand Hawks ownership writing this year, giving young guys some minutes and saving some money to build a better team next year so who is paying for these new imports, Hawks or the NBL?
Why did they take so long to find a replacement?

"Why did they take so long to find a replacement?"
Honestly sounds like they weren't looking until the NBL put the hard word on them.

Someone did mention in another thread Hawks asked the league to fund their new import. NBL declined. Now forced to sign one.

Seems a strange signing... Do they have something against even numbers?
Team comprised of 1's, 3's, and 5's...
What's the plan with this guy?
Is he going to play SG, and push Dech back to the bench? That would be disappointing but could work if they manage Dech effectively and use him to back up the 1 & 2 spots..
Or do they start him at SF and push Blanchfield to the 4?
There was a lot of back and forth going on for a while about payment, last I heard it was going 50-50.
Is this player going to make hawks any more competitive, I doubt it.
^correct. One of the most overrated players ever to step on to the floor compared to what he's paid. Much better suited to coming off the bench.
I'd say a Dees supporter knows a lot about teams being a joke, their experts at it.
Pity they couldnt get cooks and plus another import.
Ball, Dech, Hobson, cooks, Ogilvy.
