Solid replacement. When I see names like this float around, as an Adelaide fan I feel so disheartened. We settle for old names, unknowns and never seem to truly utilise the import spots to help out the Aussie talent.

BUT for the league, this is a great thing, so Im a happy NBL fan.

I wonder how long Hopson's out. Rice can't have turned up for a game or two - considering they made the Hopson injury sound not severe, this is a little worrying.

It was clear vs Perth we're lacking some depth with 3 rotation players out.

Ha and in the press release Shamir said this about him:

Shamir acknowledges Rice has sometimes struggled in his career to be a model professional off the court.

"Everyone who knows Glen or can Google his name would see he has had a few incidents in his career but my personal experience with him is his ability to create a winning team and to affect the team in a positive way was way more significant than anything else," said Shamir.

“I am hoping Glen will like it here, I am hoping our team is a great place for players like Glen and for me it's all about us becoming the best team we can be."

So how come the breakers have already signed a replacement, and for a comparatively shorter term injury, whilst the Hawks are still sitting around with the thumbs up their arses? Brooks has been out for over a week, plus they were already short of decent players. Who is running that clown show.

"So how come the breakers have already signed a replacement, and for a comparatively shorter term injury, whilst the Hawks are still sitting around with the thumbs up their arses?"

Probably because the Hawks are being more selective, getting the right person for the rest of the season, while Shamir has just gone for someone's he's previously coached who's available, with massive question marks over him, to fill in for a short time.

He looks good but this:

According to TMZ and the Albany Herald, former NBA player Glen Rice Jr. was arrested on Monday after allegedly assaulting and robbing Jordan Callahan, a former University of Tulane basketball player.
TMZ acquired the Atlanta-area police report about Rice's arrest which details the incident. According to the police report, Rice and Callahan got into a disagreement in the parking lot of a supermarket. The argument became physical when Rice punched Callahan in the face, breaking his jaw. Rice then grabbed two bags from the car, which they both arrived in and ran away from the scene. In the bag were guns, which police retrieved after catching Rice.
From TMZ:

When cops arrived, they found Callahan in a pool of blood -- and the witness pointed to where Rice fled. Cops tracked down Rice and arrested him ... and found 2 bags nearby, hidden under leaves.
Inside the bags -- 2 guns (an AK-47 assault rifle and a Taurus .38 Special) and a bunch of bullets.
Cops say a 3rd gun was found in the Porsche.
There's more ... cops say Rice also had roughly $2,700 in cash and 6 cell phones on him at the time.

This is the second time Rice has gotten in trouble with the law. In October 2015, Rice was shot in the leg during an altercation at an Atlanta restaurant. During the ensuing investigation, police arrested Rice for reckless conduct and possession of marijuana, which was in a bag that he was carrying at the time of the shooting.
Rice is the son of former NBA sharpshooter Glen Rice but his professional career never panned out like his father. He briefly played for the Washington Wizards in the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons but was waived in January 2015. Rice then played in the D-League for the Houston Rockets' D-League team. He did not play in the NBA last season.

Weird signing considering they're still saying Hopson only out for 1 week? Maybe their expecting Rice to get suspended within the first week, NBL is pretty physical so I don't think he's going to like it. Suspension game 1 or game 2 is the question.

If I was RJ Hampton's agent I would be asking the team why they are bringing a bad influence like this to the team.

Yes RJ is there primarily to learn basketball, but also to learn to be a professional athlete.

If Rice comes in expecting to be their #1 guy and takes bad shots, that impacts on RJ.

Basket-case. Reeks of desperation by the Breakers. Can't even fathom the stupidity of it.

What's even more ludicrous is that the punching incident and his subsequent dismissal from his team in Israel happened when Shamir was the coach.

The team said he tore a ligament in his knee he'll be out for a lot more than one week.

Yeah as I quoted Shamir from the press release things don't line up very well. Rice decked a teammate and was released by his Israeli team and Shamir was the coach of that team at the time.

So Shamir knows exactly what he's getting into here essentially making a deal with the devil crossing his fingers that the great player part continues in the NBL and hoping he's matured a bit and not as hot headed as he was.

It reeks of desperation though both on the part of the Breakers and Shamir too. At 2-4 they know they're close to the precipice of their season hanging in the balance and with Hopson likely out for a good chunk of time can't afford to fall further back.

Yeah, was a good post Zodiac.

I just thought it was obviously a bit of a PR spin by the NBL (which you can't blame them for) - they didn't obviously make it express in that article that he was fired from the Israel team which Shamir coached. The way it read was as if he had a great and successful season in Israel coached by Shamir and that the problems Shamir refers to happened outside of that season when he wasn't involved with the team and as if Shamir was referring to those other events as his knowledge of the problems (and glossing over the punching incident)

Again, you can't blame the NBL for the spin - but its funny what you can find under the surface;

NZ media are reporting on the link with Israel and Shamir and some people aren't happy with a character like that;

Guess we'll see what happens in due course.

Interesting read, especially the part where Rick Pitino has never heard of Dan Shamir even though Dan's claiming to have worked with him for two years??

Great article, and completely agree that this is a league wide issue. They are so focused on bums on seats and social media interactions that they are ignoring other issues. This could quickly turn sour if the league continues to act with a lack of integrity.

The NBL isn't trying to sell basketball they’re trying to sell entertainment, without all the socials the NBL won’t get the product out to the masses, so it can get more sponsorship potential and actually make some coin.

And all that sponsorship coin will come undone if they continue to turn a blind eye to ethical issues. Not saying the league is rife with anything bad right now but a few minor issues that have crept in just seem to get ignored.

There's been a lot of media coverage on this in NZ. Maybe it is all about publicity now? That article links this to Kestelman, not just Walsh, and the direction the league is heading overall.

There’s another article today saying Boucher wouldn’t hire Rice.

There’s another here that ends with "You can do whatever you want. You can talk to who you want, go where you want. You can fucking rip us if you want. At least you’re talking about us. That’s all we care about."

Watching Australian Border shows, isn't there regulations requiring people entering Australia to declare if they have been convicted for a serious offence?

And if so, they are generally not allowed entry unless there are other circumstances?
