The Sydney Kings thread.

5-0 so far.
Are they contenders or pretenders?
Have seen Sydney get off to a great start before so am weary..

Impressive start, but they have had a fairly easy draw so far. Cairns/Brisbane looking like bottom 2 contenders, and their other wins have been NZ x2 and 36ers which were both off the back of NBLxNBA trips. Hard to get an accurate read still on the Kings imo.

Still too early i feel. Yes they have won 5 in row, but they have had arguably one of the easiest schedules so far.

Not trying to use that against them, just stating a fact. I do think they are the team to beat however, but that will have to be proved over the next few months.

Sydney started the season 5-0
Melbourne started 0-3

One of those teams is likely to be in the GF

It's the way it Shatters that Matters.

Sydney bench lot better than most giving credit, yes the five spot is a weakness if Bogut goes down but overall one to nine is very solid. Kickett, Moller Bruce, Newley most likely when lisch back. Next weekend could tell us a lot more.

What I've taken from this thread so far is that the Kings need to sign a backup for Bogut and Lisch needs to be instructed to only take baths.

"Bogut had no off season" Bullshit.

Bogut went NBL to NBA to World Cup back to NBL, that classifies as no off-season in my book.

They're very clearly the real deal unless Bogut gets injured. Perth, Melbourne and SEM should all give them trouble but they're a good chance of coming first.

What's their weakness exactly? I'd say its a lack of a proper backup for Bogut. Aside from that, they don't really have weaknesses for now, especially w Lisch to return.

BOgut did nothing until the NBL season started after the World Cup. That was always the plan.

Check out how many guys are in the positive for the +/- Sydney Kings over their first 5 games. Playing team basketball. Will be a good test for when they play Melbourne and Perth in the next few weeks.

Tate +58
Bogut +52
Louzada +45 (3 games)
Moller +31
Newley +28
Lisch +25
Ware +23
Kickert +13
Bruce +13
Kuany +9
Walker +1

Considering Moller plays a lot with the bench and not a lot with Tate or Bogut, that's an excellent plus minus. The coaches are clever in using their bench players to their strengths. Moller is a rebounding defender that doubled his scoring this season and doesn’t need plays run for him.

Casper Ware, now Melbourne must be weeping every time they have to play defence without him and he’s running the offence in Sydney with Bogut better than even at Melbourne. It’s a long season but these two certainly look like good acquisitions to Sydney

Knock-Knock, Think McFly, Think!
Do you actually understand how +/- works?

Obviously a team that has one five straight games will have overwhelmingly positive +/-, especially considering the dross they have been playing.

The Kings Bench is Shit. Literally comprised of the crap nobody else wanted. I could go dumpster diving behind Woolies and come up with a better selection.
Kickert is enshrined as the softest most selfish waste of space in Australian Baskertball.

So which do you think is the more plausible explanation?
That this grab-bag of shit have ALL suddenly been miraculously transformed into top-tier basketballers? OR
That they have had an easy run against crap opponents?

So maybe hold off shooting your loads until the Kings have played some actual tough games.

They beat Cairns in Cairns which looks a good result now, yes they haven't played Perth so until then we will hold fire. You obviously haven’t watched Sydney this season either as there bench has been very very good, time will tell though.
