The Sixers welcome their new home tonight, the Adelaide Entertainment Centre and what entertainment there should be tonight. The Sixers were based in Findon for some years but have decided to take the bold move to a new home. When the Perth Pussycats did it, the Sixers beat them on their opening night, so will the Bullets steal the show and go home with the chocolates? The new court will retain the tag "Brett Maher Court" and by all accounts Julius Hodge has given it the stamp of approval.
The jet lagged Sixers were well beaten by the Bogieman and his team last round and so will be looking to make amends. Brisbane faced off against the Phoenix and were beaten by the new boys on the block by 10 points. At times I thought I was watching a Sixers scratch match with more ex-Sixers dancing on the pine than at Brett Maher's birthday party. Cadee, Hodgson, Sobey, Creek, Gibson, Adnam, Madgen have all come under Murray Magpie’s wing at some stage.
The betting people have Brisbane as slight favourites, but so early in the season, games can go either way and I reckon Sobey 1 Kenobie will be out to impress. “you were my brother, Nathan! I loved you!” Now he has been struck off the Sixers list, has he become more powerful than we can possibly imagine? Commander Joey, the time has come. Execute Order 66. But the Sixers now have their own Obi and he will use the Force to his own advantage.
Brisbane are certainly more talented on paper and have the Australian coach directing them. The stoic Cairns win last night puts pressure on the Sixers. The “Sack Joey” threads have already started, but tonight how could you not tip Adelaide to win?
