CSKA Moscow budget = over 40 Million Euros

Euro hoops reports CSKA moscows 2018/19 budget was 40.7 million euros, with a handful in the VTB league over €15million and even the lower clubs operating on around €3mil.

Thats the operating budgets, not just for players but that equals $65million aussie dollars for one team. How can the NBL genuinely believe theyre a chance to be the worlds second best league with these types of figures?

The NBL doesn't, you know this, and most fans do too. That's not why the NBL, commentators etc. claim this to be the case.

The disparity between players is not that much, you could not guarantee a euroleague team would beat nbl every time.

Nbl Melbourne almost beat okc in preseason, the amount of money you spend means jack ship, doesn't guarantee a title.

An NBL team is mostly spending its money on Australian/NZ players, a European team is mostly spending it's money on European players. For the most part they are not competing with each other for signatures, but actually competing with other teams on their own continent.

Where there is crossover is with imports, but given there are so many good American guards available there isn't much difference there. Where the top European (and Chinese) teams get an advantage is import big men.

In terms of the NBL being one of the best comps, the fact the top European teams take so many of the best European players actually weakens other teams around the continent, which in turn strengthens the NBL's standing as a strong comp from top to bottom.

The Euroleague is the best outside the NBA, the ACB sits next, but it has its talent spread across 18 teams, and NBL teams are capable of beating the vast majority of Spanish teams on their night.

Out of interest, an understrength Sydney Kings team (missing both centres from memory) lost to CSKA Moscow by 9 in a pre-season game about 11-12 years ago. I watched that game and there was not a big gulf between the teams.

Depends on your point of view.

In all seriousness, If you are an AMERICAN, looking for an overseas gig, the NBL should be high on the list.
