It will be very tough encounter, hopefully boomers can get over the line or this forum will be a nightmare with Dave, Makur and all his aliases talking rubbish for weeks.
Olgun just tweeted that Bogut or Ingles didn't participate in the warm-ups?

I'm not sure about these commontators... it's like they don't even know what Shane Heal did when he played at the world champs. They know too much about the game and current players. So frustrating!

Yes, Lots of jeers for Bogut. Not sure what that is about. Is there a Canadian that he took out in the NBA?

Goulding showing that he really does belong at this level. Full credit to him and what an extra weapon to have.
Goulding, he's not allowed to do that, he’s an nbl player. Lol

Liking the start. Up early despite Canada shooting it well. Big shot by CG4 to finish the quarter

I remember after Bogut made those comments he got bombarded by tweets from people in China calling him an Aussie dog etc.
These commentators are so bias, especially the female, to Canada
Who cares, she's actually good! Some of her comments suggest she is, in fact, Canadian.

The jeering of Bogut is definitely related to his joke on Twitter. Nationalism is absurd in China right now.

Strongly disagree, Luuuc.
Canada took too long to adjust for FIBA refereeing. It cost them big time in the 1st qtr.
In saying that: WTF was that double foul on Creek and Joseph?! I like it for us, but that was just nonsense.

Why do we whip the ball around with such abandon....it looks chaotic...like we're panicked. Is this the Lemanis influence....we seemed to do it in the warm up games also....it looks like they are continually looking to make home run, highlight reel type passes.
Besides his 2 triples Delly is a complete liability .
We have Mills and Ingles to handle the ball .

+16 point differential is very solid. Really helps us in the event of a 3-way tie. Great work.
If AL didn't empty his bench would have been a +26 differential and we'd be laughing.

I wonder if in the modern world of commenting while watching, we're prone to rushed judgements. Intra-game or even game by game. Read the comments here and you’d think Delly would be unemployed by tomorrow. Finished with 24/4/5!

Nostraballmus can ride a bandwagon like anyone. He sees the Tsunami of how great are the Boomers starting already and the howling down of anything constructive. A great win by the boys in the back of an unsustainable shooting % and despite some glaring defensive lapses in the third. And before you start tearing Nostraballmus a new one- this is a good thing, a ground out win with lots to improve on is a good sign. We don't wanna peak in the group a la Rio. Go Boomers.

Heslip hit some tough shots in the last 90 seconds. Had little to do with Lemanis playing the bench: moreso Heslip just playing freely as they had nothing to lose at that point.

What a turnaround from the mid-3rd period.
I had lost faith in Delly as a shooter, then he goes 6/9 for set 3s. Delly's game doesn't look pretty, but he continues to find ways to be effective.
Goulding was brilliant at the offensive end. Kept us in the game. He looks to be in great form. A vital counter to a defense aimed at minimising Mills.
Ingles was the cool headed general that brought the lead back out. 10 assists (possibly later amended to 9 assists).
You've got to be happy with 108 points.
Defense needs to be much better or we will struggle to contain the biggger nations.

It was an ugly and scrappy game but here are the pros and cons as I see them:
Pros:
* Goulding is a gun. No one could have imagined last NBL season that he would give us what he is giving us in this campaign.
* Dellavedova has found his shot.
* Ingles as a play maker
* We managed to pull out by 20 at the end despite playing a pretty ugly and generally poor game given our comparative talent.
Cons:
* Pick and roll coverage leaving three-point shooters open. Some teams out here will murder you for that.
* Giving up a 17 point lead within a single quarter. More defensive lapses that need to be addressed coming into tougher games against Lithuania and likely France and Germany.
* Moments of lacksadaisical effort. I don't think the "favorites" tag in any game does the Boomers any good. They always play better with their backs to the wall and nothing to lose, al a the win over Team USA.
* Mills was completely taken out of the game by the Canadian defense (although this probably opened things up for Delly and Goulding)

Some improvements to be made but still early in the competition. I think we're on the right track but still have work to do.

I didn't realize until just now: we only had 4 turnovers in the 3rd (felt like more), and had 0 turnovers in the 4th. Very nice execution down the stretch.
Delly's also been working on his shooting technique: it looks like far less of a catapault-type motion that it was a year or two ago.

Commentary did say he had worked on his shot with a new coach this off season.
Thought Bogut was great, might not be quite athletic enough for the nba anymore but still a good bench player. Great to have him in the nbl, he could earn millions at a top euro club still but chooses the nbl, worth every penny what kings paying him.

Perthworld, at the time I assumed that was a nothing comment essentially implying that he put work on his shot during the offseason because he shot so well this game. I could be wrong, but I'm not convinced she had any real basis for saying that.
In saying that, I AM convinced her comment was accurate, however baseless it may have been coming from her.

Worth getting up at 2:30 in the morning to watch it in the states. ESPN Plus for $5. Once they cleaned up the turnovers in the second half and allowed Canada to run out of steam, it was clear sailing. I like their chances. And Canada is no cupcake League. Well done Australia.

Gotta love Bogut, just casually wandering over to the medico, with his nose pointing at his right ear.
Goulding on fire, really saved our bacon, hope he can keep that up. That's the thing with him, when on song he can win an NBL game off his own bat.
But our lack of depth at the 3 is a worry. Ingles had an absolute blinder, but God help us if he goes down.
I hope Kay improves. Looked overawed at times.

This is why there is excitement for next year with Olympics if Boomers have a full team.
We know other countries have NBA/Euro outs, but Australia has the most to gain from a full roster.
The major risk is how these players age one year on, if they get a step slower. If they don't, imagine adding that critical three point shooting in with Broekoff, Cooks etc

Delly's three ball still sails through the air like a wounded duck, but hey, if he can knock them down like last night (or even 40% of the time), who cares.
Good game yesterday, caught the replay on Kayo which was fine, a couple of buffering issues aside. 3rd Q was woeful and some bad turnovers overall, but generally our defense was improved versus our warmup games, although our offense didn't look as polished. Goulding played out of his mind and Delly bailed us out. Looking forward to tomorrow's game.
re: Kay he got a few good looks off of other's penetration and had one nice finish in traffic, but I didn't see anything to change my mind of him at this level. Doesn't seem to have the length, strength, or athleticism to be a factor in the halfcourt. He does work hard though, especially on D when a shot goes up. Sometimes that's enough, but if we are forced to play him bigger minutes against teams like Lithuania and co. there's a good chance he might get exposed.

In the US second game and the game against Canada we are +31 with Kay at power forward and -11 with him on the bench. Didn't see a boxscore from the Germany scrimmage to put those numbers in. We are much better defensively with Kay than Landale.
Context matters a lot. Kay was on the court when Patty went nuts against USA, and in the 4th Q when Delly went nuts versus Canada. Not to say he didn't help, but most starting 4 men in the NBL would probably be on a solid +/- in those two situations.

Good win. Was cursing up a storm during that third quarter. Absolute stinker of a patch. Goulding really kept us in it there - the guy is playing some great basketball at the moment. Delly's shooting was gold. Hopefully we don't need him to hit 6 threes to play well again, but it was fun to watch.
We definitely look better with Ingles running the show. He still throws the odd loose pass, but just gets us into our offense well. Thought everyone who hit the floor contributed well.
Need to take care of business in the next game and set up a big one against Lithuania in the final game.
Not sure why people want Canada to beat Lithuania. That would set up a potential 3 way tie and a desperate Lithuania. I'd much rather us and LTU go in 2-0 and assured of progressing and play for top spot and the advantage in the second round.

I don't know what game most of you were watching but Nick Kay played great. 8 pts, 3 rebounds and a whole lot of hustle in only 17 min.
"and in the 4th Q when Delly went nuts versus Canada"
Kay was actually on the bench during the 16-2 run to start the fourth quarter v Canada, and he was still +13 for the game. Australia was only -11 over the rest of the game with Landale at power forward. The story was the same in the win over the USA.
Jock's +/- numbers haven't been great, but he will hopefully find his feet in the system. Kay has played plenty in this system, Landale is new to it so should improve defensively.

I love Kay, I just hope he improves. Simple.
He's had some good games, but this is the real deal. And, apart from Senegal tomorrow, each game just gets tougher.
We've got Lithuanian, then France & Germany. We probably need to win all 3, to avoid USA in the QF.
Landale's performance at the 4 has saved this team from ignominy. All we need is an injury to B1 or B2, and Kay will be playing starter minutes
Kay is doing exactly what he's supposed to be doing, dogged defence and 1%ers, let’s hope his lack of length and athleticism doesn’t hurt us against some of the fancied rivals. Germany and France have some monsters.
"Kay is doing exactly what he's supposed to be doing, dogged defence and 1%ers, let's hope his lack of length and athleticism doesn’t hurt us against some of the fancied rivals. Germany and France have some monsters."
I thought his athleticism was a concern, but given he's been solid against the USA and Canada, two of the most athletic teams, that's not so much. I think he is a very good back-up 4 internationally, but agree against the biggest teams he might struggle with the starters, but that's where we can play Bogut and Baynes together more.
