Should Nick Kay be starting?
+18 in Australia's first ever win against the USA. Next best was +9. Discuss.

You're joking right? Lucky to be water boy. Think being on court same time as Mills might have something to do with it.

"Think being on court same time as Mills might have something to do with it."
Mills +/- was 0. Being on the court at the same time would have detracted from Kay's. GOAT.

I guess it depends on the opposition. I'm happy to have Kay and Bogut off the bench and play minutes. Kay just knows how to win.

All the talk making fun of Kay, but it's actually really important that Kay plays well and with confidence. He finally looked more comfortable out there in this win. Lemanis won't play Landale much more than 25 minutes per game. With Bolden out, what are our choices for the remaining 15+ minutes?
- go small with Creek at the 4
- go big with Baynes+Bogut
- go with Barlow at the 4, who hasn't played a full minute yet with this team
- go with Kay
There may be reasons to sometimes go bigger or smaller, but it appears that Landale and Kay will typically be splitting time at the 4.

Kay seemed to pull off a lot of "NBA goal tends" really well something our NBA bigs night not be so adept at.
I'm trusting him more but only a sprinkle of minutes here and there I hope.
Superstar? No.
Absolute workhorse? Yes. Good things seem to happen when he is on the court.
I went to find Kay's +/- from game 1 and he wasn't even on the score sheet!
Says a lot about the accuracy of the stats.
NO!

Anon, here are Kay's +/-s in each game so far.
-3 in 17 min
-3 in 20 min
-6 in 12 min
+18 in 21 min
As a comparison, here are Landale's equivalent stats
-18 in 28 min
+14 in 25 min
-9 in 22 min
-16 in 17 min
I'm not sure what you can take from that, but they are the numbers.

+/- is bollocks
Just watch the game
he went alright yesterday but he'll get monstered by the bigger euro 4's
It's ok though, we just need a few mins from him to spell the three bigs, and lemanis can just use his mate Creek if he has to match up small

What y'all don't realise is I had to leave the Boomers or I'd of just been taking minutes off the GOAT.
Love this. +\_ reflects what happens when a certain 5 is on court and u put it forward as a case for playing a single player over others !! Gold ! If you'd said our best +\_ five should start u might make a tiny bit of sense.

An nbl journeyman as the boomers starter ? good luck with that.
If he is so good, he would have already been picked up by a European or
nba team.

Journeyman? Now who's on drugs?
It's great that Kay is now playing with confidence, especially if you consider that he has effectively moved up the order with Bolden out, and Barlow (ROFL) in.
Even as Landale's backup he's going to have to play solid minutes, and our big risk is B1 or B2 getting injured or in foul trouble, which would necessitate sliding Landale to the 5.
I'd be a hell of a lot more comfortable with Motum in the team instead of Barlow.

Well, Nic Kay playing the 5 at WC, who'd a thunk it. LOL
On a more serious note, what do we do for the Senegal game?
Keeping in mind that these results carry over into the next round, do we go for the jugular and pile in as many baskets as we can?
Do we try to keep guys like Bogut and Baynes warmed up, or do we give them an easy game and try to keep them fresh for Lithuania and beyond?
+7 Meh.
Delly 25, Jingles 22, Bogie 22.
A one game wonder.

Well, he finally got there.
Great tournament from Nic.
Can you see him holding his place for Tokyo?
Obviously every place has to be earnt, but do you see his place coming under too much pressure? From guys like Bolden, Simmons, Maker, etc?
Nic was spoon fed a lot don't forget. Can't create his own shot at international level. Hustle was admirable though.

Kay played more than I thought he was going to in world cup but thought he did quite well.
Ideal for Tokyo along with Goulding in the 10-12 spots of rotation.

Nick Kay should def start in B team for qualifications. Still worth taking him, for spot minutes and effort, to majors
