If you could have ANY marquee player ...

Given all the replies to the Carmelo and Muggsy threads, it got me thinking.

If your team could have ANY ex-NBA or ex-Euro player as a marquee outside the salary cap right now, who would you choose?

I'll chuck in a few names to kick it off. Dirk Nowitzki, Jimmer Fredette, Stephon Marbury, Jan Vesely, Antonis Fotsis, Nando de Colo, Alexei Shved ...

For United, I’d go for Dirk for his size and shooting accuracy, closely followed by Jimmer for his outside shooting.

Not to mention he can get Heath Ledger in to talk to the team, which would be fun.

Interesting question.
For Perth, you'd be looking purely for talent, because we already have decent crowds and I don't want to pay any more for my seats.

But imagine the draw-card potential for some of the struggling teams.
Imagine signing someone like Shaq. The merchandising alone would be worth a mint.

I'd go dirk aswell. Based on game the of zones ep with him in it recently, he only has 10 minutes of battle in him per game, but has only played for 56 years with the mavs and despite the fact he knows time is short for him. There is disappointment that he probably only has 6 seasons left in him.

I'd love to see dirk playing 10 minutes of battle in the NBL.

Last I checked, Dwayne Wade could play decent minutes. He's my go-to for any NBL squad right now.

I'd like to see Al Jefferson in the league - imagine Perth with him and Jawai backing him up?

A couple I wouldn't mind seeing:

Jimmer Fredette - He'd jack it but would fill it up for sure.

Nate Robinson - He's 34 now but would be good to watch for one season. Still has the hops and showed he could score a bit later in his career. He's a bit fiery too and doesn't mind a scrap.

Tyreke Evans(?) - Could he come play here for a year with his drug suspension? Obviously not in a good place but getting out of the US might be good for him for a while and he'd absolutely tear it up here.

Tyreke would have to decide if it's easier to buy weed in China or Australia

Fultz, Carter - still in the NBA... if we are talking Ex NBA / Ex Euro players then I will take Ray Allen, seems like the kind of guy who would remain in game shape even after retirement. Otherwise maybe Manu Ginobli

Tony Parker for me. A winner, a leader and great role model for the kids.

Tony Parker a role model?

He cheated on his wife.

I reckon there's a guy named Michael that I would like to get in. At 55 would still fill stadiums. Probably worth a few minutes even now

You're absolutely right about his popularity but he's actually still only 29 years old
