McCarron's 9 fouls

Mitch McCarron has been called for 9 fouls across Games 1 and 3.

He averaged 31 minutes a game in the regular season but has been restricted to 18 and 23 minutes in these games.

McCarron is 2nd in the NBL in +/- after Kay, who took the lead back tonight.

How many of McCarron's 9 fouls were actually fouls?

You be the judge:

Game 1:

4:25, 1st
2:24, 1st
1:36, 2nd
7:02, 3rd
0:57, 4th

Game 2:

3:05, 1st
5:15, 2nd
5:18, 3rd
4:42, 4th

Here's another question

Damien Martin is universally recognized as the GOAT NBL defender, having won the defensive player of the year award 6 times. How many Defensive Player of the Year awards would Martin have won if he was reffed like Mitch McCarron was reffed in games 1 and 3 of the 2019 grand final?

A: 0

B: 6

C: Somewhere between 1 and 5

D: Shut up LV, stop bashing the refs just because one of United's key players is continually getting monumentally screwed over

If you averaged out the amount of contact that Mitch McCarron has made with his opponent over the 9 instances where he has been whistled for a foul across Games 1 and 3 in Perth, the average amount of contact would be equivalent to roughly:

A. A mouse running across your leg as you take a nap at halftime at Perth Arena

B. A fruit fly landing on your shoulder as you bite into a Granny Smith apple

C. The amount of contact Vickerman makes as he slams his notebook into the overhead locker while boarding the flight home to Melbourne

D. Damien Martin's toddler trying to playfully hit you with a budgie's feather, but completely missing and getting a fresh airey instead

A Perth fan complaining about fouls, excessive contact or home cooking is exactly as ironic as:
1. a black fly in your chardonnay
2. a free ride when you've already paid
3. rain on your wedding day
4. the contents of your average Trevor Gleeson press conference

You've claimed over and over that you don't ref bash then you post this crap.
You are embarrassing yourself, move on to crying over St Kilda winning the AFL spoon because the vast majority of us are over your United whining.

If McCarron hadn't been called for those fouls United would have won last night.

A foul is not what you did, it is for what the officials perceived you did.

I guess he got away with more previously in Cairns and early on at United because people liked the way he played the game and the person he was. He got the benefit of the doubt on the 50-50 calls.

Since joining United he has gone from a player that everyone admires to a flog. His continued antiques post these foul calls is not going to help him.

I still rate him. He's got serious ability, which is kinda stifled on that United team.
Needs to play smarter but that is correctable.

Mitch can flat out go, you experts questioning his ability are a joke. He is starting over golden boy Goulding, what else do you need to know about how highly he is considered at NBL level.

Mitch can go he's a gun, but should stick to to two or one position, he’s to small in the three against elite talent, ie Terrico White.

[A foul is not what you did, it is for what the officials perceived you did.]

Of course.

But, the refs are paid to perceive events *correctly* and without drawing attention to themselves.

That is the entire and the only purpose of their existence on the basketball court.

If you get flown across the country and you get paid to adjudicate a contest that happens live with hundreds of thousands of people watching, then expect some scrutiny. So this is not ref bashing.

Actually, it's not their only purpose. Just the major one.

There's also a people mgmt role to play. But here the refs are inconsistent- why is Gleeson and other coaches allowed to carry on like pork chops without penalty, but players barely remonstrate for fear of consequence?

Presumably the inconsistent treatment is an NBL directive.

So in your eyes Vickerman is a saint who never complains about a call and Goulding isn't remonstrating every time he looks like he is about to burst into tears when the whistle is blown against him?

Please highlight the article in the rules that relates to referees not drawing attention to themselves? By virtue of blowing their whistle they draw attention to themselves. Brilliant LV.

Perth didn't win by 29 because of reffing it was because of talent.

LV is correct

McCarron should be fouled out every game, not just the ones in Perth.
