Premier League Round 1

Week 1 predictions. I have looked through most teams Facebooks to see who may be suiting up, bound to have missed some or be assuming some are playing that aren't ready week 1 so chip in what I've missed.

Woodville Warriors vs Central Districts Lions
St Clair with the home opener for an improved Warriors side. With Perry back and in form judging by Millicent scores they have to start favourites. I haven't seen their new import but he is big by the looks so will no doubt help them. Look for Meldrum to make the leap this year into consistent starter. All quiet out at Centrals as best I can tell. Jimma Dau set the league alight last year with some big games, and I have heard Anyang Garang is returning from the COE which will give them an athletic frontline. Not sure on their guards or imports though.

Without knowing anything further on Centrals I would say Woodville start 15 point favourites, kicking off what will surely be a finals campaign for Whitmores crew.

Norwood Flames vs Sturt Sabres
With the announcement of import CJ Rivers it's clear the Sabres are still in "go for it" mode. Reigning DPOY Tim Klaosen will have to do a job on some of the experienced Norwood crew for this to stay close. A big offensive load will fall to Rawson while the Flames experienced core just got deeper with Legan and Brine.

Norwood by 11.

Eastern Mavericks vs Forestville Eagles
Another club kicking off in a new venue, this one may not be as welcoming for the Mavs. With two imports only just off the plane a couple of days ago there could be an adjustment period for a still young Mavericks squad. Forestville meanwhile bring back Teys and Harris while adding Rios and Deng from previous years in what looks to be the best lineup assembled this year.

Forestville by 32.

North Adelaide Rockets vs Mt Gambier Pioneers
Match of the round hands down. North appeared super loaded until Forestville decided to sign half the 36ers. Still, with McVeigh, Starling, Dowdell and wild card Johnson they are certain to be amongst the league leaders. Mt Gambier have announced 2 Dalys, Erik Burdon and two imports. Results in Millicent were promising but not dominant. I expect them to get a warm welcome at the launch pad.

North by 3.

South Adelaide Panthers vs Norwood Flames
While Norwood have the double header South kick their season off at Marion on Sunday. By the looks Souths big import Allmon is the goods and my early season pick for Woollacott if South can win enough games. Despite the advantage of seeing Norwood play the night before, they won't get their season off to a winning start.

Norwood by 14.

Sturt Sabres vs Mt Gambier Pioneers
Both teams back up from Saturday in this one. Could be an interesting match with neither teams depth particularly inspiring. The Dalys will be looking to perform against their old club and double headers are nothing new to the Pioneers.

Mt Gambier to split the weekend with a 17 point win.

Looking forward to hearing peoples thoughts.

What will happen with games for Saturday played at non ac stadiums? The BOM forecast is 38 today and tomorrow and 40 Friday and Saturday. Stadiums like hillcrest will be like an oven! Surely BSA will postpone the fixtures at Hillcrest and Mount Barker.

Mount Barker should be ac venue now after the upgrade

I doubt the games will be cancelled. Hillcrest will be like an oven. Barker's stadium is fine with the fans in there as they maintain a decent temperature - plus it's always 2 degrees cooler up there. Then you need to take into consideration that it's 6.15 pm & 8.30 pm so it will be a little cooler. Hillcrest is a tin shed so the heat will just stay inside and they never open side doors to let the air flow.

Marion is going to be a hot box as well even with lower temperatures on the Sunday - but you can't even get hand soap in the toilets let alone a decent court to play on. The court is dangerous to play on and for the refs with no side or end lines with sufficient space. Ticking time bomb!

Goodness knows why Harris is always pumped up as a huge contender when he only had a few outstanding games last season and then choked in the Grand Final.

40 scheduled forecast for Barker on Saturday also with no A/C and fans are nothing other than circulation. It would be 45 - 50 inside the tin shed at Hillcrest. We are talking heatwave conditions so BSA would be absolutely stupid if those two games went ahead under the current conditions.

Harris did average 17 last season and has spent all off season with the 36ers. Hard to see him being worse.

Marion is going to be just as bad on Sunday @ 36 degrees...you can't cancel 2/3 games and then force a double header on another weekend - this will make an unfair advantage on the teams only playing 1 game for the weekend/round.

What are they going to do when the rain starts and stadiums like the Arc and Pasadena that constantly leaks. Nothing gets done about these stadiums to be fixed.

Bsa will be providing portable aircon units for those stadiums needing them this weekend

Can't see how harris choked in the GF, check Teys shot % then get back to us

Maybe you weren't watching the same game we were all watching. He couldn't even barely move on the court let alone make a shot. Nerves obviously got the better of him.

Being in the Dev Squad for 36ers doesn't make you a major contender in PL.

"It would be 45 - 50 inside the tin shed at Hillcrest."

Explain how you think the temperature will increase by 5-10 degrees just because it's inside. I'm curious.

Ever stood inside a tin shed with a few hundred people after a full week of 35+ degree days? If it's 40 Saturday it’ll easily be 45 in there...

Training squad = full roster does it

"Couldn't even barely move" = he was moving fine?

Imagine thinking Akol was there to do anything other than contest rebounds

Pioneers not full team as yet and have to settle in to a different Como. They'll come good. Always do. Yes North’s looks good too.

Yes North got lucky.

Bench strength this year will be important and North looking ok there and will be further strengthened when college players return and they play together a bit more.

Mays only needs to play a handful of games plus a few seconds here and there and get an in grown toe nail for an injury waiver. All part of the big plan for the eagles

Keyboard warrior again against Mavs. Did you see the game - OMG talk about 36ers getting protected and good ol' Teys as dirty as ever and getting away with 2 hand pushes in the back. How about his whinging and complaining and not one warning throughout the entire game. Anyone else would have been thrown.

Maybe because you're a disgruntle ex player and can't get a starting 5 gig any where...

I don't think shit refereeing can really be the whole reason a team goes down by 40.. just saying

Teysus pushing a bloke caused Mavs to lose by 40. Your logic is still better than your basketball team at least.

disgruntled ex player - needle in a haystack there so many to choose from. You have your Mavs goggles on - bit like beer goggles - make things look better than they are.

Lost by 40 - refs fault huh? refs fault for many years huh.
