Premier League Round 1
Week 1 predictions. I have looked through most teams Facebooks to see who may be suiting up, bound to have missed some or be assuming some are playing that aren't ready week 1 so chip in what I've missed.
Woodville Warriors vs Central Districts Lions
St Clair with the home opener for an improved Warriors side. With Perry back and in form judging by Millicent scores they have to start favourites. I haven't seen their new import but he is big by the looks so will no doubt help them. Look for Meldrum to make the leap this year into consistent starter. All quiet out at Centrals as best I can tell. Jimma Dau set the league alight last year with some big games, and I have heard Anyang Garang is returning from the COE which will give them an athletic frontline. Not sure on their guards or imports though.
Without knowing anything further on Centrals I would say Woodville start 15 point favourites, kicking off what will surely be a finals campaign for Whitmores crew.
Norwood Flames vs Sturt Sabres
With the announcement of import CJ Rivers it's clear the Sabres are still in "go for it" mode. Reigning DPOY Tim Klaosen will have to do a job on some of the experienced Norwood crew for this to stay close. A big offensive load will fall to Rawson while the Flames experienced core just got deeper with Legan and Brine.
Norwood by 11.
Eastern Mavericks vs Forestville Eagles
Another club kicking off in a new venue, this one may not be as welcoming for the Mavs. With two imports only just off the plane a couple of days ago there could be an adjustment period for a still young Mavericks squad. Forestville meanwhile bring back Teys and Harris while adding Rios and Deng from previous years in what looks to be the best lineup assembled this year.
Forestville by 32.
North Adelaide Rockets vs Mt Gambier Pioneers
Match of the round hands down. North appeared super loaded until Forestville decided to sign half the 36ers. Still, with McVeigh, Starling, Dowdell and wild card Johnson they are certain to be amongst the league leaders. Mt Gambier have announced 2 Dalys, Erik Burdon and two imports. Results in Millicent were promising but not dominant. I expect them to get a warm welcome at the launch pad.
North by 3.
South Adelaide Panthers vs Norwood Flames
While Norwood have the double header South kick their season off at Marion on Sunday. By the looks Souths big import Allmon is the goods and my early season pick for Woollacott if South can win enough games. Despite the advantage of seeing Norwood play the night before, they won't get their season off to a winning start.
Norwood by 14.
Sturt Sabres vs Mt Gambier Pioneers
Both teams back up from Saturday in this one. Could be an interesting match with neither teams depth particularly inspiring. The Dalys will be looking to perform against their old club and double headers are nothing new to the Pioneers.
Mt Gambier to split the weekend with a 17 point win.
Looking forward to hearing peoples thoughts.
