Boomers talent pool runs deep for shot at Rio redemption

Andrej Lemanis has arguably the most important job in Australian basketball in 2019 as he looks to seek Rio redemption by guiding the Boomers to a historic first ever major medalat the 2019 FIBA World Cup in china come August. He will have a selection headache though, as the Boomers' talent pool has never been deeper.

With Simmons not playing at The World Cup the team should be:

Delly
Mills
Bogut
Baynes
Ingles

Exum
Broekhoff
Maker
Bolden
Creek

Adel
Landale

He's got Cadee in the list and still playing for the kings, not certain he just hasn’t picked names he knows.

Even if Simmons is not available for 2019 Cadee shouldn't be in the talent pool unless he is sitting at shallow end dipping his feet in the water.

Even Kyle Adnam is better than Cadee. Not even sure why his name is in the discussion.

yeah adnam is 2 years younger than cadee and still improving and already the better player because he actually plays defence too

Just because players are in NBA it shouldn't mean they automatically get selected. Need to go with best fits, not sure what Maker has done to get in apart from a pretty mean flying kick against Phillipines.
Really wish we had a better coach, should think outside the square and look at a European guy.

Creek is a far better defender. Just can't shoot...

Maker is no lock for me either.
With Bogut, Baynes, Bolden, Motum, Kay,Mathiang and Landale there is plenty of competition for the 4/5 spots.

McCarron over both Glitton and Creek

LC how is Cadee in your list over Gliddon? Have you not watched NBL this season?

Wow that article was a pile of horseshit.

People have been sprouting the same crap about the Boomers for decades.

As for "capturing the imagination of the Australian public" I don't know what it is about ball fans but we have this insane ability for self-delusion.
Yes, Australians love watching the Olympics, and when we suddenly medal in the Greco-Roman ass-grabbing, we're instantly all experts and passionate fans, but it doesn't last.
As for the world-cup, yawn.

And the simple fact is, all rhetoric aside, when medals are on the line the Boomers choke. Self-Belief? Nah, I would suggest exactly the opposite.

Naar 94, Moller 94 certainly would not rule these two out.

It's a pretty uninteresting debate at this point, given that there are 9-10 locks, so the main arguments centre on two players who will see little court time.

Simmons won't be there. That seems fairly obvious and he likely wants it to come across as something he feels/knows only at the time (off season) rather than something he’s actually been definite about for some time.
