Lightning Money Problems

I have just come out of a two week psychosis episode and haven't been able to follow the news - are the Lightning okay now or do they still have money problems that might cause them to fold? Did an investor come into save them?

Lightning are RIP end of season best case unless one of the following happens:

BSA take it back over run it cheap. Team struggles

BAdel take it over, run it cheap. Team struggles

Private investor takes it over, loses $100k - $500k a year, team has success depending on cost. Private owner gets no support, no sponsors because they're a private owner.

Why do they have money problems, aren't the Lightning / 36ers / Titanium Stadium run by the same people ?

Because they have a heap of bills and their main income source won't be there next season?

Gotta feeling Lightning are gone . Hope I'm wrong .
Remember that 36ers _Titanium Stadium owners don't wanna go on with Lightning anymore and MAC closing down.
The Crows and SA Government having a look at it .

What would be the budget breakdown of this team, I know half a million doesn't just go to the players and Lucas wouldn't be getting $5. Need to spend on players to be competitive but better to slash the budget and survive than overspend and fold.

so much money being spent on womens initiatives around the place - surely the Lightning can be kept together. Having games on junior nights surely keeps the gate down.

charging $0 entry means playing on a junior night makes no difference to the gate.

Works for AFLW because the AFL fund the Women's League. But not in WNBL. And that there is part of the issue.

AFL has created a new market by using their AFL brand for power. That takes away from the other self reliant Women's Leagues.

Netball, W-League and WNBL have to now fight the pulling power of the AFL and in Adelaide they're just not able to given the way its run.

even if it is $0 entry - you can't be playing junior games and going to the Lightning at the same time.

AFLW like all women's sports makes no money and runs at a huge loss.
AFL are only doing it for PR and to engage females who they had started losing to soccer

Basketball Adelaide - owners of the 36ers - already own and operate it. You can't take over what you already own.

Basketball Adelaide and Adelaide Basketball (Club) are not the same.

Agree - despite containing the same letters, BA and BSA are quite different ... different objectives & responsibilities, different people ...

Just to complicate things, nationally we also have BA [Basketball Australia], which like BSA [Basketball South Australia] is responsible for administering & promoting the sport of basketball, from juniors to internationals.

The SA version of BA - Basketball Adelaide - is a commercial entity that 'owns' the 36ERS & the Lightning teams and has no responsibility to the sport per se, which feeds into my fear for the future of the Lightning, which were once run by BSA, or BASA, as I think it was back then.

Basketball Adelaide - 10 clubs
Adelaide Basketball - 36ers and Lightning
Basketball SA - supposed to be the peak sporting body in SA, affiliated with BA.

Oops. Sorry. Critical inversion, eh.

That said, Basketball Adelaide/Adelaide Basketball. Did they set out to intentionally confuse people?

Heaven help us if the Judean People's Front (not to be confused with the People's Front of Judea) get involved.
