Hire's NBL minutes at 12.5 per game which would be worrysome for Rockingham.

Jervis' minutes at 12.8 per game which is fantastic for East Perth.

Not much coming out about new signings outside of Willo, Lakeside, Rocko and the wolves. Hawks and Perth quiet so far. Can they win without some change up considering how well the other Wolves and Rocko have done with their changes

Perry Lakes have been quiet? They have resigned every single player back from their championship season and added Tevin Jackson, along with two import spots now currently up their sleeves.

In case you didn't notice, but they won it last year without Holmen and Thomas. They now add one of them back and Tevin Jackson who is a young, hungry and athletic player with NBL development experience. They then have two import spots to just tweak in, when and if needed.

Signing contracts is a ridiculous process in the SBL, no one has technically signed other than those so called superstars which teams want to remove from Pleb status to make them feel good when they move clubs.

All players will get contracts near the new year or closer to the date. Most teams have verbals and the guys are showing up to practices and are involved. Brian would be stupid to move unless monetary value is of importance. He is now an Aussie and wont be paid as an American I assume.

He should stay as a Hawk and go for a back to back and one more ring with the club that has helped him greatly.

Looking at Perth's MSBL roster from last season, players they can claim as their own;

B. Smith (32yo, 29 min's/game in 29 games)
J. Wagner (31yo, 28 min's/game in 28 games)
M. Vigor (28yo, 22 min's/game in 17 games)

J. Collard (19yo, 1 min/game in 13 games)
Bosnakis (18yo, 5 min's/game in 2 games)
Herbert (18yo, 2 min's/game in 18 games)

That's a huge gap between the old (David Harris') guard and the new. For several years there was much bragging about junior player development but nothing to actually show for it?

Davis is a cheap import which has allowed them to get Ross, who would likely be the most expensive non-import in the league in 2019.

Will be interesting to see which way they go with the other import spot. Do they go a scoring point guard ala Tre Nichols, or a swingman which allows their plethora of local up-an-coming PG's to run the show.

Maybe not a popular (neutral) view here, but I call smart play for mine

Ross flat out baller - just killed it in Asia Cup
KD super SBL reliable and apparently good value (cheap)

2.1 A player who is a non-Australian or Oceania citizen will be deemed a restricted player in the SBL competition.

6.1 Any player that is a member of a national senior squad as at 1st of July of the previous year shall be automatically a restricted player.

Ross will be 'unrestricted'.

Article 2.1 has to be read the right away. What it should say is....

"A player who is a non-Australian or non-Oceania citizen will be deemed a restricted player in the SBL competition."

The word "non" should be in front of "Oceania".

In regards to national representation, I think you will find that does not apply to Oceania national teams.

Reply #720393 | Report this post

Anonymous

What it should read and what it does read are two completely different things. The Oceania clause was put in for the 2019 season. Oceania players are now restricted including New Zealand players.

And it doesn't say anything about Oceania players being exempt.

Reply #720394 | Report this post

Lukosius

Oceania players are not restricted and a simple phone call to the SBL office will confirm this.

In addition to this, Basketball Australia yesterday issued their latest 'Foreign Player and Coach Policy' document which also stated this.

The Chambers Franklyn Joondalup City Wolves are excited to announce the final addition to their 2019 Men's roster, welcoming USA wing Ridell Camidge to the Wolfpack.

Camidge, a former University of North Carolina (Charlotte 49ers) NCAA Division 1 athlete, is a 194cm 2-3 who will provide the Wolves with another elite shooting option, along with noted punch at the basket.

It was Camidge’s performances with the Oklahoma City Stars roster that proved most eye-catching, averaging 18.5 PPG and 6 boards per game across 2017-18, including 44% FG and 42% 3PT shooting.

With an ability to score in various ways, Camidge possesses great ability to create his own shot in all situations. He reads defense well and has big intensity both ways, stopping offensive wing threats.

Men’s Head Coach Ben Ettridge has worked closely with the club’s List Management Group to identify and sign an athlete who complements the roster, and he is thrilled with what Camidge provides the club, as a desired skill-set.

"Ridell is an impressive athlete, very focused and ready to perform in his first international contract. His cultural-fit and work ethic set him apart".

“His shooting is in the elite category, with a real ability to fill it up, so we’re pretty excited to welcome him” Ettridge said.

Ridell Camidge is selected as the club’s second Men’s import signing for the 2019 season, in support of international Earnest Ross and power big Kevin Davis, creating a formidable trio that is expected to create real problems for the opposiition.

Cute write up about Ridell Camidge, just mix everything up and hope nobody checks it :)
Ridell started at Juco, he did go to an NCAA Div 1 college, the Charlotte 49ers, but he lasted only a year.
From there he went to a Div 11 College, Tarleton State and finished at Oklahoma City, a non NCAA university.
The numbers are great, but NAIA is not NCAA, thankfully he couldn't slide lower.
Now Ben stated that "His cultural-fit and work ethic set him apart", funny how he couldn't hang on his scholarships, with all those attributes and elite performance at the highest level he seems like a huge signing, foundation for a 3 peat :)

Let's wait and see how he fits in. Imports are a lottery most of the time. I wouldn't knock him any more than some of the other recent signings

Well if it is Bowie back to the Giants, it shows they aren't mucking around. Already signed two very good Aussies from the eastern states, plus Bowie, plus a big import centre you would think, and you would assume Holloway will be back. That's a nice starting 5.

On top of that Julitz and Klatstorny from the Magic are training with them, and have the usual suspects Forlano, Hurst and Reid.

The health of the three regional teams quite often will reflect the health of the league overall, so it will be interesting to see where those teams are at for 2019.

With 6-7" Kiwi Brayden Inger joining the Buccs next year, the starting fives that we know of so far....

Buccs
C - Import ??
F - Hunt
F - Inger
G - Import ??
G - Alipate

Giants
C - Import ??
F - Malek
F - Bowie (import)
G - Humphries
G - Holloway

Slammers
C - Weeden
F - Voelkel (import)
F - ???
G - Livingston (import)
G - Lay

There's nothing stopping other clubs from signing up premium sponsors to fund signings. Except their ineptitude. I guess it's easier to be jealous rather than address revenue issues.

I agree Wolves do a great job at securing sponsors other clubs sit on their hands all year and then when it comes to time to find sponsors for the season all of a sudden they ask players and others to find them. Great job by the Wolfpack and I hate the wolves.

That reminds me of when one of my family members actually donated to East Perth simply out of pity. Eagles were basically door knocking businesses for loose change. So on the one hand we have Wolves operating like a SEABL club while Eagles operate like they're in Waratah League.

Wolves haven't won anything in quite a few years anyway. Spend or don’t spend, they will not win until they address their lack of composure in Finals. They have been the faves three seasons in a row in the MSBL and have beaten easily each time.No prizes for finishing 2nd. There roster this season is looking good, but it lacks any real bench depth.

not only about sponsors. the massive catchment area and massive domestic revenue helps.
rather than trashing other clubs they should respect how much easier wolve$ have and show respect for other clubs competing amazingly well.

wolves WSBL spend this year will be TRIPPLE some clubs. and no other MSBL will have 3 imports.
they deserve to win. they have already paid in full for 2 championships. second place will be complete failure.

the ineptitude comment is breathtaking. give any club 5-6 full time staff, brand new stadiums and the largest domestic catchment area in the league ... and maybe they will become rude and arrogant as well!

On top of that there WABL program has become largely irrelevant, for having the club competition and catchment area they do to be so consistently mid to low table in that competition is disappointing.

So while they do great branding and recruiting they aren't contributing to the overall health of WA junior high performance and will need to keep recruiting for the foreseeable future to maintain current MSBL success as well as pull their women's program out of it's recent decline.

... often bordering on abuse!

wolves might buy 2xSBL championships but are are a cultural mess

You can't call a player disloyal for playing for different clubs. That’s an absurd statement. Players are players and barring a few of them all were paid players and went where their lives were going to be better off making that extra cash. Bruton has been at one club for a long time now. Thomas seemed to follow parsons after his long stint in Gero. Mastrovixh was earning big money in kalamunfa and then travelled and shopped himself around for money. The only guy on the list that went somewhere else cause they couldn’t get run was.... well you can be the judge. Hussey is going where he’s going to enjoy playing and get paid.

What loyalty does he owe any club? Why does he have to stay in a crap situation?
