I'm going to go easy on them for a while, considering how many would have had a busy schedule leading up to the World Cup, then played that tournament, and had the high of that result as a team. It doesn't surprise me that going back to club basketball could take a while to get into the groove after that.
Hopefully sandy is watching these games.
I'm certain she chose players she knew well and not the best performers.
Madgen is probably an example of that, considering there was no recent form to base her selection on, but Sandy would have been comfortable with her as a player from Phoenix.
When someone is coming in at the last minute I think there's some justification for that though. (Having said that, I'm one of those who think that Hurst seemed to be unfairly overlooked)
Talbot had a great season playing against the world's best, and was a no-brainer for the Opals. I don't think of her as that much of a scorer so I wouldn't be expecting 20 from her every game. Today she was poor I agree. Sandy had her playing a pretty well defined role and playing it well. It remains to be seen how effective Guy can make her.
O'Hea was good today after a pretty average first couple of games, and she would have been fresher than most after missing the pool games at Worlds.
Ebzery has had a slow start to the season too, but playing in an Andy Stewart team would be nothing like playing in a Sandy Brondello team. Plus she has been messed around a bit swapping between the 1 & 2 spots. She'll be fine I'm sure, especially now that Mansfield is returning to action.
Bunton is the only one who has really hit the ground running.
