Perth look like the same old well oiled machine. Rumors of their demise seem to have been greatly exaggerated- if that half is anything to go by. Not the first time we've heard those rumors though

What's with these refs? DJ is a protective species
Sixers will come back. Just need a spark and they always get one when they verse the cats.
Dengs Defence is not up to it tonight, put Frohling back on. The refs aren't calling those moving screens on Perth as per usual but at least they are starting to call the shoulder and elbows to the neck and face. Too bad the commentators can't recognise that. Exciting game but Perth has again brought in players and the 4 starters coached by another coach is a gift. Sixers will settle. They have a lot to sort out.Need to let the two on the bench go and put someone useful on there for specific roles. Waste of space otherwise. Need another big with some weight, Deng not as good as last season. Off season hasn't improve his D issues
Mathew Nielson should coach all 4-5 men for Australia, the improvement in Brandt, Kay and Vague is amazing in such a short time, there foot work and hands around the basket is fantastic.
Exactly. Gleeson isn't that great but in an organisation which provides money and good assistants. Must be nice.

Plus minus shows who can play D and who just can't play D. Drimic was poor.
End of the day Perth has ent all their money and Adelaide had none to spend. Need to switch up a few plaers so there is more to choose from. Looks like there is an issue with roles intertwining that a few have to sort out and work out where they fit. Got in each thers way a few times. They'll settle and Joey will adjust when he see his own mistakes withsome of those rotations. Frohling needs more time on court. 3 of the bench are not up to this level yet and shoud be traded up. Rushed last 50 seconds and wrong player under the basket, change that and its a win. Usual start to a Sixers season.

Every Sixers fans worst fears were realised tonight, this team doesn't have enough quality players, we’ve gone from having 4 guns to only 2 in sobey and DJ. Wiley would wanna give more then he showed tonight, third quarter he lifted but other three garbage.
Deleon ain’t gonna give much more then he did, we all know that is a budget import and god end this season now if Teys is going to get 20 minutes a game!! I don’t wanna watch anymore. Guy hit one decent three and a mid range two and is rewarded with an extra ten minutes!
Does anyone know where the profits from the extra 20% in membership costs this season went? Because it certainly didn’t go into constructing this roster!

"How awkward was Page Cooper just staring at the camera in silence then"
Yeah, if we can keep her away from broadcasts that would be nice.
But either way, I thought the standard of basketball was pretty low for both teams tonight. Maybe a bit of jetlag between them? Either way it was not the NBL basketball of last year and not the kind of ball I like watching. I'd like to think that this is just some early season jitters and that the pace picks up soon.
May be a bit early to judge the 36er's roster as well. At the start of last season we started out awful and we ended up in the Grand Final. The season before I believe, same thing. Season before that, same thing, then we pick up someone by the name of Jerome or something?
Teys playing minutes is a concern though. Joey's love affair with him needs more thorough investigation.
The 20% went to eXtra security so you couldn't take water into the stadium..........but you could fill it at a water station inside wtf is stadium management thinking.

Hated the uniforms. We looked like marshmallows. Why can't we just wear red?
Could it be that Steindl is back? Made some good shots.
Cotton is still the Money Man, Kay exacyly what we needed, and Jervis in great touch.
White was interesting. Started quietly, then looked to be just a shooter, before stepping up his inside game.

Adelaide were lazy af last night.
Bad start to the season losing at home to a team we might be fighting for 4th spot with.
Improvement to defence, and getting the buckets in that we missed with first half nervousness (particularly Wiley), Adelaide actually looks better than I expected.
Deleon will be utter frustration mixed with holysh*t (see stupid three that went in)
Drmic didn't step up but I think he will this season.
Deng will hopefully get more time, I think he can be a real x factor, as Heal likes to say, he's "money from the midrange".
Froling's footwork down low can be great for us looking forward to it.
Wiley was nervous early, missed a few gimmes but he could be a genuine 15/10 guy for us night in night out and that athleticism is awesome.
Sobey looks set to go back to his 2016/17 form, awesome third quarter brought us back in it.
Johnson needs to step up on D, but offensively "you do you", he took us on his back with the Sobester.
Teys made some big plays, that's what he needs to be there to do - uber efficient 5-10mins a game.
McVeigh - Didn't see much of him, a bit green and easily gave away a charge.
Moore - Made some good plays, needed more though.

Sixers first half was horrible. Wiley was really getting lost in D. The switching defence was all over the place, with players questioning each other, making their offence slow and robotic. Moore just lazy on defence, gives Hire no respect on d and he hits open 3. Drmic open a lot of times and Sixers just don't pull trigger and pass to him, not that he was hitting his shot anyway, but they just never seem to find him when he is wide open. Perth were good at using open man. Their screens to give each other space were good and they looked slick offensively with lots of movement.
Early days though. Not going to win too many shooting in the 30% range in first half compared to Perth 57%. Sixers were 2/12 from 3pt at half time. They should have won this game though after coming back from 15 down and getting in front. They blew it. Cotton was amazing at the end.

Refs seem to have gone from one extreme to the other. Last 2 seasons handing out flop calls willy nilly, last night the players were trying so hard to get a flop called, doing everything they could falling backward with the greatest intent, refs playing their own game and calling charges on everything. Very bizarre. I guess we are going to see a lot of players on the ground this season. Jelly legs Brandt who can somehow chest up to the biggest of players, fell down and got the call.

Lot of complaining on this thread. I expected both teams to be much rustier after coming home from USA, but it was a great game, Cats got out to the early half time lead, the usual Gleeson messing with the lineup in the 3rd to give 36ers a sniff. Refs were disgraceful, but that hasn't changed (didn't they hire some famous overseas official to train these bums).
Wiley looks good, but was just in early foul trouble. DeLeon looks like the typical PG with a chip on his shoulder, but not as good as the ones we are used to seeing. Drmic will bounce back, had a stinker. DJ was dominant. Sobey did what he has to do every game in the 2nd half.
Kay is a monster. Jervis had a big game cashing on the minutes Brandt is working his way into. Ppl complaining about Terrico including myself, but we've been spoilt with multi cat guys like Tokoto and Prather, White's job is to take the offensive pressure off Cotton which is exactly what he did in that first half, didn't need to in the 2nd as Bryce had the ice in his veins. Norton will get better every week learning from Damo, already a massive upgrade on Kenny. Most impressive thing for me about the Cats is they scored 99 pts, we've always relied on our D, but seems we can also put up a big score now. 3 big scorers this year Cotton, White and Kay is much better than last year Cotton, Tokoto and Wagstaff.

that is the problem J. They make different decisions and then seem to make calls to even it up for their past failings.

Agree sixersrockstar, i understand the players doing it though, when you don't get rewarded for taking the big hit and you see a guy flop or flail get the call, why take the physical hit when you can just "accentuate" the contact and get rewarded

Good scout by Perth.
Adelaide were the worst team against a zone last year and the worst rated catch and shoot team. Saw a lot of zone last night! There isn't much to Adelaide’s zone offence besides the usual stuff you teach juniors, get a high post player flashing and opposite dive on the reversal.

No woeful efforts from Adelaide. Drmic/etc would hope for more, but you can usually wear an off night from your 5th option more easily than if it came from DJ or whoever. Just beaten by better percentages, especially some interior work from Kay and Jervis who were very good.
Thought DJ had a bit of an off game which shows how effective he is on offence that he could still go for 20+ and 10+. Being able to rattle something in or draw fouls is very useful when you are a great FT shooter. Thought the team settled for questionable looks too often. Didn't really manage any gimmes inside against solid D.
I like the look of Froling and McVeigh. Quality rookie crop.
Vague showed something too. Always saw his name on rosters but assumed he was some tweener nuff nuff. He could be useful, even for a very strong frontcourt out West.

Yeah "Sixers will win the lot and Perth will miss the playoffs"
Even with all that home-cooking, they couldn't get up. They will get slaughtered on the road.
Might as well leave DJ at home. Does he have the refs on some incentivised commission program?
Sobey should invest in some butt-cheek implants if he is going to spend so much time falling on his arse.

I'm not cocky.
Unlike many, including most Sixers fans, I picked them early on to make the finals, and I still back that call. As I said, Joey is a good scout and a good coach, and he will make that team competitive.
What I didn't do was take the suicidal leap onto the roaring "Adelaide will win the lot" bandwagon, just because of a couple of Pre-Season games.
It's no wonder you have so many serial killers, as it seems the whole state is schizophrenic. One moment nobody is ever going to support the team ever again because of Mitch Creek, Nek Minute "they are going to win the lot."
Early days yet, but McVeigh looked like he could become very good, for someone in his first proper NBL game.
My Jury is still out on Froling. He's a big kid that's for sure, but he's going to encounter a lot of bigger men in the NBL, so he needs to be able to work better away from the basket. Or maybe he'll just get better inside with more game time.

"DJ knows how to draw contact and accentuate it, it's a skill whether we like that part of the game or not."
That would be all very well and good, except for a few things.
1) In a league where home-cooking is the norm, it will only work half the time.
2) It's not going to work in Playoffs.
3) He has a coach who's favourite hobby is pissing off the refs.

"Too bad Gleeson still acts like a pig"
As I have said, there is a subtle, yet important difference. Gleeson bitches theatrically about calls he disagrees with, then he sits down and shuts up. Sometimes he goes OTT, but on the whole he is pushing the refs only so far, and perhaps less inclined towards the next call.
Joey simmers, then explodes, and can't contain himself.
Not sure it helps on the road, but at home Gleeson's antics are probably worth a call or two.
