Great to see Perth and Sydney on SBS.

Are SEN doing a preview show like last year?

Going to be a mixed season IMHO, some teams recruited very well and some haven't.
Luuuc - do you know who is suiting up for tonight's game for Canberra? I have read recently they may be missing up to 4 players for tonight. Tough ask for the to win on the road against the Flames in Sydney.

what are Bendigo doing...
Doesn't look great when you just take the cuts from the other clubs. Haven't been successful for sometime.
And Melbourne have resigned molloy for another 2 seasons. Time to move on from him. Best players given to him and hasn't made it work.

I really hope they scrap the current clubs and align the teams with the Nbl so that the wnbl has some stability.

Definitely not as strong as last season in terms of lineups are concerned, but nonetheless should be a good season! I'm tipping a Boomers-Fire GF again, but Boomers to get up this time around.

Canberra when fully loaded will be great to watch, only question on them would be whether they can come together chemistry wise when so many of their players are coming off of such large layoffs.

I feel for Bendigo - not sure if their constant lack of star power is a location thing, while Bendigo is a nice place it's not really in the same ball park in terms of things to do as the other team's locations. Could also be a budget issue which wouldnt surprise me either.

I'm going with a final ladder along the lines of
Melbourne
Townsville
Canberra
Adelaide
Dandenong
Perth
Sydney
Bendigo

Luuuc - do you know who is suiting up for tonight's game for Canberra?

Some others can probably help more than me. From what I gather, Griffin is ok to play, Tolo is at least a month away, and last I heard (a while ago) was that Leilani would be touch-and-go to suit up for game 1.
I don't recall hearing anything about Wallace at all over the winter, but just going by the timing of her injury very late in the college season I'd be surprised if she plays at all this season.

S5 I reckon
Mitchell, Nurse, Froling, Griffin, Scherf

Wilson, Rocci, Young, Bourne, Mclaren

Cubillo, Loader

Wallace, Tolo injured.

Griffin has been in full training a couple weeks now. Nurse just landed 3-days ago and could be on reduced minutes. Not sure what we should expect from McLaren as a temp. Could be a breakout season for Scherf but lookout too if Sydney's Wilson and Tupaea take the next step. I've tipped Flames, narrowly.

Both teams won 2 quarters. Pretty much a draw tonight.

Stat-wise, Scherf 22 points (8/11) in 22 minutes (up against Bunton, who had a good one herself with 27 & 7) is the one that jumps out at me.

What is it with Melbourne?
They extend Molloy's contract and he hasn’t delivered a championship.
So they bring 3 Opals so they can win the flag.
The board must know something that we all don’t.
We’ll see how many players "develop" this year
I’m tipping zero!

I'd say the Gm and Molloy are good buddies.
Some new coaching stock is needed in the league.

No legit bigs for Perth. Not sure what Stewart was thinking.

Some of the biggest lineups we've ever had in the wnbl and he has no one bar steindl and Allen in the post at only 6'2.

Adelaide just far too good. Coffey with another impressive debut for an import. McPhee was one of Perth's best too.

Lightning had too much cohesion and played like they've been together far more than Perth have. Shooters kept getting their shots (Coffey, Planeta, Nicholson) all over the court and even Seekamp looked good as a makeshift PG facilitating. They're easily making finals if they keep this up.

I understand that Stewart has a plan but the Perth roster construction is just full of ball handlers and high usage players. Today they mainly played with 3 guards, 2 forward lineups. I don't know how it's going to work, like why is Farnworth throwing up so many shots. Ebzery and Taylor looked very rusty. Hopefully things click. Mansfield-Ebzery-Mcaphee-Taylor-Standish is a good starting five when they can all get on the court. Schwagmeyer the perfect 6th, scoring option from the bench.

It's the D that disappointed me. Hopefully it's a chemistry thing that can improve, because there were holes left open everywhere all game.

Has been the same problem since day 1 of the new Lynx era, and yeah it bothers me too as it always has.
It's possible to pump up the crowd and provide atmosphere without hurting people's ears. I find it literally painful at times. It really detracts from the game IMO.

All the time in the world to recruit just 2 solid imports...

The disparity between the top 3 and the bottom 3 should not be so vast in an 8 team competition.

With brisbane team coming and only maybe 5 wnbl level college players coming back home. Hard to see where the players will come from.
We have very little quality youth replacing the veterans atm.

The problem is that the WNBL can't really afford to employ any equalisation measures such as salary cap, because I think it would do more harm than good.

There seems to be plenty of player movement around the league each season (eg. Perth seems to turn over its entire roster each year!), so provided any new team is announced early enough (i.e. before the end of the season) I think there's enough time for a new team to assemble a competitive roster.

Cricket now the has the highest salaries for women team sport. Supposably 200k per season if you are an international by 2020. Minimum is 40k and some players are on 300k now.

Almost glad there's no tipping comp this year. Huge upsets last two games. Lavey with 3 threes, 5 assists no turnovers, could be on the bounceback. Cole and Jarry look huge gets to replace Cummings and Blicavs still has to fit into the team.
