no Goulding just doing the normal - Ware has been on the floor half a dozen times already also - nice to see the game called well and not a foul evertime Ware and Goulding flop to the foor.

Goulding is definitely injured. Wouldn't be in the locker room missing this opportunity otherwise
Why does the commentator keep saying goulding led the nbl in scoring last season. He was no where near the top of the leaderboard. Hasn't been at the top for many years
Goulding having an offensive blinder, Pledger playing well. Barlow and Ware have been solid, Kennedy out of his depth so far. Moller playing very well defensively, one nice move but struggling offensively apart from that.
Melbourne are playing quite well, not shooting great but it's pre-season, they just have no real answers for Embiid and Simmons as expected.
Sorry the lack of clapping and cheering for that half time entertainment from the Aussies was warranted. Is that the besr they could send over. Was like a junior high school performance. This is the big league. Hope the rest of the teams send something decent. Was there nepotism at play ? Anyone know

Goulding has looked good, Moller defensively has been great every one else spuds. For fuck sake pass the ball.

Has played 23 of 24 mins, are we sure he is injured? Mccaron only getting 4mins... surely he is not happy with that
Espn box score and play by play has goulding only going off with 9 seconds to go. Was I dreaming goulding limping to the locker room. Has goulding really scored 19 points or is that another mistake on the box score. Anyone know what's really happening?
NBA must have flown over nbl score officials to do the game ha ha
Goulding was on fire. He hasn't returned since injury.
He seems to have an injury curse when it comes to NBA.
Pledger having a quality game. His finishing on the move is class.
Its just about showcasing ware and goulding nothing more. The rest of the guards and forwards on the bench would do a much better job on defence pressure especially on the p&r. Surprisingly Pledger doing okay and Barlow as always consistent. Moller looks like hes never watched an nba game and has no idea on wingspans of these guys
Yeah and if they NBL was let go to be this physical people would be screaming blue murder. Maybe take your one eyed patch off Mike
Goulding was awesome, went off just before half time. Mccaron has played more than 4 minutes
Stats got Boone and mc Daniel playing, worst stats ever

If Ware stopped putting every shot up in the first half this game would be a lot closer

Was good to see JJ Redick giving Goulding a lesson on how to flop in the big leagues. Outflopped the flopper

At half time mccaron had played 4 mins. Seems to only be getting mins due to gouldings injury

Not really surprised to see Ware struggle and Pledger play well given how the NBA is played these days.

Ware was excellent last season against OKC, he just didn't hit shots tonight. Loved Pledger's game, 19 & 13 in 31 minutes is something else against an NBA frontcourt.
Goulding obviously showed offensively he is world class and McCarron, Barlow and Moller looked reasonably solid, shame Boone wasn't able to play and they definitely missed Wesley as the rock their offence is built around and his improved ball-screen defence.
Kennedy the big disappointment in this game, but that said Prather struggled last year without the athletic advantage he enjoyed in OS leagues. Kennedy seemed to lack some IQ with his decision making and missed some bunnies, Melbourne will need him to be better when the real stuff starts.
Ware took dumb shots, it was all about Casper, Moller got in front of Simmons and others on D and looked good, played team first, Barlow same as Moller didn't look out place but better offensively, not as quick on his feet on defence. McCarron tried hard but lack height hurt him. Pledger was fantastic as was Goulding till he got hurt. The rest were average or worse than average including Casper.

Like the commentators said aside from his lack of height the knock on Ware has always been he just isn't a good enough shooter, thinks he is but as we saw last season and tonight he isn't. He's a chucker.
It still grinds my gears that Melb Utd team beat my 36ers thanks to Chill doing his shoulder.

What? You mean the refs don't call fouls when Ware or CGfloppy3 drive to the basket and flick their head back? Is that why Ware looks like a short little sh#t that can't score?
How un-NBL like?
Pledger was the standout player. Ware did jack up a lot of shots but someone needed to when the other players were playing scared. Barlow was consistent and made good shots. Goulding was catching fire. Moller was good on his feet. Everyone else kind of blended in.
Too many turnovers on poor passes cost them. A lot of blocked shots also. A differential of 20 ain't bad and beats what most bookies had them at.

Ware averaged less than a quarter of his points from the FT line last year, shooting 4 attempts per game including end of game fouling situations.

I think the final scoreline was very kind to Melbourne. If the 76ers were paid 10'000 dollars for every point they scored over Melbourne, and if they bothered to go to all the mismatches they had over them, the game could have been horrific for the NBL's credibility.
I feel like last year, Melbourne legitimately pushed OKC, much to do with the help and experience of Anderson, Wesley and Boone. but tonight, I think the 76ers were merciful.
Top performer was without a doubt Pledger. I don't think anyone expected him to do anything but he was doing a bit of everything. Goulding is an NBA player offensively but his frame and defense will always mean he's on the outside of the league. Barlow and Moller were solid enough. Everyone else probably should have spent the night at home.
So while 76ers could have made it uglier, Melbourne definitely could have played a touch better.
Hopefully we get a few closer games that are realistically more competitive in this series. But the fact is, the gulf between the leagues remains massive, and I think we're still a fair while off being the second best league in the world. Have to respect the moves we're making though.

Highlights for me,
-Goulding's ability to finish with extension after separation.
-Ware getting good separation from sitting on defenders...just to small.
-Pledger good range and strength, unfit but could play at that level.
-Barlow looked good with his NBA head, though too old now.
End of the day, United couldn't control penetration. At times the double was sent with success but looked like there were no defensive rules in place.
I liked Moller's game, think he needs more minutes. Solid defensively and rarely turns it over like many of his team mates.
Moller was very good, probably to team first, like to see him at the four with ball in hand more, makes good decisions.

I think the Breakers will be really competitive against the Suns. Young PHX team. They could exploit that.

Pledger could play NBA if he was with a nice structured team that played perhaps a little on the slower side. Hes always been a very good player just hasn't always had the opportunity/touches to show what he can do.
No team has really played him huge minutes AFAIR which has been disappointing. (Usually have split him with another big)

I don't think Pledger is athletic or quick enough to play NBA realistically, but obviously he has the frame to play against NBA players in one-off games. There are a lot of players who can compete against NBA guys for some reason or another but who will never get a look and he's just another one of thousands of them.

He could certainly fill a back-up role playing smaller minutes against other back-ups. Had he not had the run of injuries he's had he would have had an outstanding career.
Gee whiz, Moller is world class defensively. Never thought I'd say that.
^^^^^
Long, long arms, very light on his feet and very quick. Very sneakyly long. Got in front of Simmons a few times today, not many can do that.

Pledger is a way better basketballer than the respect given to him. I don't think he'd be the worst player at an NBA training camp and that makes anyone a bloody good player.
Would have been fascinating to see a coach trust him and use him inside more, Matty Knight was the best centre in the NBL for a while but he couldn't stop Pledger for the most part.
I hope as a fan of the Pledgehammer he continues a fantastic career and can stay on the court

"Ware averaged less than a quarter of his points from the FT line last year, shooting 4 attempts per game including end of game fouling situations."
Haha. What about all the flops and flick of the head that cause a foul and change of possession. ie non-shooting fouls/flops.
Paul don't let the facts get in the way mate.
It's A nothing event. LK wants to raise the profile and spend his money that IMO would be better off spent on keeping it in Australia and the NBL.
Jumpshot you stated drive to the basket! Douche
I've always thought pledger could play nba especially the way it is now. He would do exactly what baynes does
Agree on Pledger, a big body to run the centre lane and take the heavy charges. Useful to stop the run of a rim shooter nd wirth sacrificing him fouling out to slow them down. Ware and Goulding can't match the best on isolation against good defenders with big wingspans and way to small to take the physical contact. That’s where Creek has done the right thing in bulking up and improving hi strength. Something Goulding should have been working in instead of his hair ! Sam for Mouer. They need bulk and haven’t bothered to work on it and at their age the scouts will be looking elsewhere because there is a lot to choose from. This is where the 36’s continually despite other issues manage to pump out better players than the ones they took on. They look at the complete package. Person and family forst for happiness and support, nutritional health for each body type, strength and conditioning, future aspirations with tailored program, education and then sacrificing for the team and flexibility within the team. It works dollar for dollar with small budgetad beside management issues the on court stuff is working. Not perfect but better prepared for the future. I am keen to see Wesley do well. He is solid across the floor and I think he was completely undervalued at United and will be their loss this season, te missing link from lat years team. He could do well in the NBA. Smart, fit, has size and not afraid of contact.
Yes, it's very clear that Creek feels he was treated like family by the 36's. The phrase 'get ya hand off it Daryl' comes to mind

Wesley is a tweener so would never be NBA level.
Goulding has been good enough to be in the NBA for a few years now. He reminds me a shorter Alexey Shved who played a few years in the NBA. Same types of offensive games.
Only concern with Goulding would be shooting %s at NBA level. Shooting %s have become even more important in today's game given how much you need efficiency in offense in today's game.

You would assume that being a small fish in a big NBA pond, and having lots of practice under pressure, would give Goulding the drive and the opportunity to get his shot working so that he consistently scores high 30% - low 40% on his 3's.
In the NBL he can afford to coast and worry more about his hair; in the NBA, that would soon get knocked out of him.
His major weakness in the NBA in the short term would be his defense.
Good points re: bulking. NBL clubs have epically failed at this, and the players take the easy way out because it isn't even emphasised. Creek bulked due to being interested in fitness and running his personal training side gig more than the Sixers I would say.
I really don't understand how this is ignored. Remember Wortho as an example apparently outright refused to lift or do any gym work. lol
and who can forget Gaze going from Tigers to Spurs and first day in weight room everyone laughed at him as to them it was a WTF moment that he couldn't even do basic weights, but that was the 90s at least.
Take a look at Sixers Saturday and tell me who other than Teys is not looking ripped for their size. The PT' workouts and nutrition is tailored for each player that takes it on and most of them do. Sobes, Majok, Drmic and the new young guns amongst others are in to it. They encourage each other, its a culture and its positive Mitch was a big part of it but it has been cemented in the fabric of the team now. The benefit of a tight small city culture where everything and everyone is close and accessible. It will be a hard one but the effort and ability to stay in touch within reason will be much better than today. Or I’ll eat my shorts !
Most teams have weight programs, but it's not about weight like rugby players it’s about core strength an athletic ability with game iq. Lots of players who bulk up before there body is ready for it spend a lot time on the side lines with injuries. Wild cats had some big bodies there today Jarvis, Kay and you can see how that worked out, the tall slender athletic Gobert kicked there arse.
I'm talking relevant to their own size. Jervis is not as fit and athletic as he could be. Any mug can see that. No he won’t b Golbert but he could be a much better version of himself. That is not happening at his two recent clubs. They are not helping him be his own personal best.

Anon. You can drive to the basket from anywhere. Malaka.
Jumpshot, no need for profanities. It speaks volumes about your character. We all know what Malaka is. You poor angry man. Do you need a hug ?
How anyone can say Ware was the only one trying to shoot is mesmerised by him as for most of the game no one else had the opportunity. Ware had the ball in his hands first and never gave anyone else the opportunity to look for or create a better shot selection before he jacked up his shots. He may have got 19 but there were likely better options and his % were low.
