The ticketing to these games has been completely mismanaged and they probably should never have started selling packages before they knew the configuration of the stadium. I bought Fans MVP tickets within the first few weeks of them being released, thinking I'd be assured half decent seats. I looked at comparably priced seats in the pre-sales and felt confident I'd end up with floor seats. But when I messaged VIP Now about the MVP seats to get a gauge of what exactly a "gold" ticket entitles you to, seeing as there is no designated gold area, they replied that MVP tickets will be places across multiple levels on the floor and in the grandstand. So basically, you could pay $300 for a very good ticket, or a very bad ticket. But don't worry about that, apparently, because there will be screens everyone!
If I wanted to watch the game from a screen I could have spent 300 dollars on alcohol and stayed at home.
And add to the that the fact that the available maps still don't designate most of the sections in the building. Note to Basketball Australia, TEG LIVE, and VIP NOW: People are going to fucking care where they're seated!
But regardless, the event is worth going to if you can afford it. It is still going to be the biggest games of basketball ever played in Australia. It is still going to be Team USA. It is still going to be perhaps the greatest Australian team ever assembled. It will be the fans that help make this a spectacular event and I do think as many of us who can go, should. But I am going to be very angry if I have spent 1200 for 2 tickets to each game for it to turn out I am seated the same as someone who spent far less.
