Not a lot of leaks this season.

Theo Pinso would have been a great signing. But no dice.

Anthony brown was the other name I believe.

Gleeson was seen smiling a lot in Vegas.

No real leads at all :(

I wouldn't be surprised if they end up with Devondrick Walker again. By the sounds of it, there first choices were snapped up on 2-way contracts or other international teams. Doesn’t sound like they want to splash out on Prather or Conger type money either.

I’d expect whoever they go with, we will find out in a week or 2.

What makes you say that? The Cats are probably going after someone better than Conger.

This makes me say that ;) bit of reading between the lines.

"When pressed with names that have been around the NBL like Devondrick Walker, Casey Prather, Carrick Felix and Demetrius Conger, Gleeson explained that his squad were looking more to younger prospects as opposed to those who we may have seen before."

Keeping some money aside to potentially use on third import later in season is a good idea.

But surely if those first choices have gone to NBA or Europe, they would have been attracting decent Money?
Gleeson explained that his squad were looking more to younger prospects as opposed to those who we may have seen before.

One possible interpretation, is that local fans seem to get fixated on the tiny pool of players we have seen in the league, rather than the massive pool of potential imports out there.
Gleeson has done relatively well picking talent, and will continue to back himself.

I suppose there is also the issue that guys like Prather, who have been around for a couple of years, played in Europe, etc, KNOW what they're worth and know what top teams in the NBL will pay. Younger guys, who maybe just had their NBA dream dashed, and/or have spent a fruitless year in G-League, might still be enticed by an offer of $100~200k.

I also don't understand why the Cats are going with only 2 imports?

How hard would it be to find somebody better than Vague?

Wildcats will end up getting Conger or Devondrick Walker.

Dazz, it could be very advantageous adding third import at a later date.
Personally wouldn't mind Conger but will wait and see.

Tom Jervis is the third import

Third import slot is going to be really handy to fill an injury if one happens. Easier to cover an injury to a star player with an import than it is a local.

Do all these people saying it's handy to have a third import know that Matty Knight already retired

Yes anon I'm sure everyone realizes that Knight has retired.
The third import spot has nothing to do with him.

@Hogwash, it was a tongue in cheek comment. Alluding to the fact that Knight was always good for an extended injury lay off for which the third import may be useful for.

Fair call anon.
Martin has injury history too.

"Martin has injury history too."

Fair call. With Norton on board this year, hopefully they can ease the load on Martin's body a bit with some reduced minutes.

Fair enough, my comment was based on the notion that Vague is still young enough to continue as a DP,
and would earn promotion when Hire (or Wagstaff) Retires

I'd actually be keen to see what Devondrick brings to table. we need that extra 3pt specialist who will pull up at every chance given. Steindles head had bricked the shot before it left his hands and Tokoto just wanted to drive in or pull up from mid range.

Having just turned 26 I would assume Walker is still considered a young prospect.
I have a feeling they will go with someone from summer league

The draw for Walker was supposedly his friendship with Cotton, so now they have stitched him up long-term, it would make sense.

And yes, definitely looking for some extra 3-point firepower, which I assume is why they don't want Tokoto back. Walker would seem to fit that requirement.

Absolutely AD.
Walker fits Perth's needs and I always wonder how last year would've gone had he not been injured.
Speaking of three point power it would be great if Steindl can find his shooting touch especially as Wagstaff is getting older and I don't expect much from Hire.

Greg Hire was awarded the Young West Australian of the year Award.

Considering the high value the Wildcats and Bendats put on Community Relations, they might have thought it would be bad PR to sack him after that?

But yeah, if Steindl can't recapture something, we'll definitely be struggling from 3 point range, especially when Cotton is resting.
