Rate the NBL benches 2018/19

Only a handful of bench positions remaining.
Brisbane, Cairns, Illawarra and Melbourne all have one local spot each to fill while Sydney are possibly filling their last spot with an import.

NZ IMO have the best bench lineup.

Also any ideas who might get the last local spots?

Thoughts...

I can only hope Barbosa was a joke? Kings need backup Centre and backup SF

Perth by far IMO.

They have 3 guys who are starter-quality in the league - Norton, Wagstaff, Jervis. Plus another who has started before in the league (Steindl).

Melbourne still looking good, Pledger still good Barlow playing very well after a couple injury years and Moller must be close to starting depending on imports.

Dillon will be Uniteds back up pg.
He was on the LTI last season got injured in pre season. United will have to see consistent scoring out of Hooley and Moller which is hot and cold.

Illawarras bench could catch teams by surprise if Andersen can last.

Perth is right up there, nice to have some good depth this year. Still wish they went an import over Hire, would be a great looking bench.

A line up of...

PG: Norton
SG: Import
SF: Stiendl
PF: Wagstaff
C: Jervis

...almost wouldn't have looked completely out of place as a starting line up in the NBL last season or the year before.

Still though, even with Hire it's pretty solid bench.

"If steindl ever regains his form Perth has a nice bench"

+1

This, and waiting to see how far Vague has progressed.

Vague is a former Emu and currently averaging 16 in the SEABL. He hasn't really done much as a DP, but is still very young.

Also need to see whether Hire has actually made any progress in recapturing past form, or if its all Shop-Talk.

Adelaide very much dependent on how well the young Turks go in their first season. Could be a awesome bench.

Brisbane could have a better bench than starters, just waiting to see how Lemanis makes it work.

I'd say Sydney...

except that they won't get any minutes for the first few games,
then once the injuries set in, they will all become starters.

Melbourne don't have any local spots left. Therefore Dan dillon won't be back.

There lineup will be

Ware / Hooley
Goulding /
McCarron / Moller/ Barlow
Prather / Trist / Smith Milner
Boone / Pledger

On paper Perth has a very good bench but in reality will these players be able to come in and KEEP UP with the tempo of Adelaide + the faster pace that NZ and Cairns say they will run.

In my opinion Perth doesn't have pacey players on the bench like a Mason Bragg type that looked visibly quicker out there than pretty much everyone on the court.

Really looking forward to seeing how Illawarra and their bench play as they are a great mix of veterans and unknown rookies

No Cats bias, but if Norton can develop into a floor general like Martin then they have the best bench, Perth has always lacked a 2nd leader, Knight was this somewhat, but missed a lot of games through injury. We completely flop over the past few seasons when Damo has been injured, absolute mess on the court. Norton picks this up quickly from Damo and it would be huge for us, and feel he's more than capable.

Otherwise Bullets and NZ look the best on paper because of the good mix of youth on elder statesman/leadership.

Steindl the potential X factor for Perth.
He either steps up to make a solid 9 man rotation or gets splinters with Greg Hire.

I am hoping & praying for a Walker-like turnaround with Steindl.
