Premier League Power Rankings & POTW Round 5

POTW

1. Jake Rios 45p 6r 2a, 18/27fg and 5/6 3s
2. Alex Starling 28p 19r 4a, 12/21fg
3. Jimma Dau 21p 25r

Any other noteworthy games I am missing?

Power Rankings

1. Southern Tigers (last week: 1)
Kept rolling out at Starplex but fortunate to play them with just one import. Local showdown against South on Wednesday looks to be a good matchup.

2. North Adelaide (2)
Showed their defence is indeed the best in the league holding Sturt to 49 points. Even with Reed playing limited minutes Starling was enough to get it done.

3. Norwood Flames (3)
Handled business at Marion and imports appear to have their roles defined. Veteran crew have hardly put a foot wrong. Match up with North looking to be game of the round on Wednesday.

4. West Adelaide (4)
Struggled past Eastern but a win is a win out at Mt Barker. Continue to get even contributions from a deep squad. Appear to be a different team when Jordsn West plays.

5. Forestville Eagles (6)
Only 1 win out if the top 5 now and DJ now probing all the doubters wrong by playing 35 minutes on the weekend. Short price title favourites now.

6. South Adelaide (5)
Have handled business against teams ranked lower but struggled with the top teams so far. Will be looking to reverse that trend on ANZAC day vs Southern.

7. Woodville (7)
Struggling to find consistency and across the board production. Also unlucky to run into DJ in his first game - would have stood a chance otherwise.

8. Centrals (8)
Playing hard and scrappy but riding a 4 game losing streak now. Need Martin back ASAP.

9. Eastern (10)
Look out League. They may not be fantastic on D but are causing trouble for other teams. Rios is the real deal. Wins are on the horizon...

10. Sturt (9)
This may be slightly unfair as they have played the top 5 teams in this ranking so far but they have lost by 25+ to the top 4 of them. A long way off the mark and you have to wonder if they're a happy team judging by their body language Saturday. Looks to be a one man show but the one man is in the wrong league!

Some big games coming up Wednesday for ANZAC Day

Questions to be answered:

1. Will Riccardo suit for Centrals?
2. CJ Reed, Eian Davis and Ivory Young all played limited minutes on the weekend, did they get hurt and will they suit up Wednesday?
3. Who wins the North vs Norwood battle for 2nd (or higher) in the rankings?
4. Can Eastern break the duck?
5. Which team will have the best crowd for ANZAC Day?

FYI after 5 games, Southerns defensive rating is the best in the league, North currently 3rd.

North held Sturt to less than Southern did. Maybe Southrrn have just played easier teams. I don't think anyone would argue North have the best defence in the league.

Why is North's defence so good? Is it just Starling on defence or do others step up?

Is the results website still down? Or you people just refusing to look at it?

According to this post north have the best defence because they held the worst team (according to this post) to 49 points?

685667, no-one is arguing, merely a statement of fact. After 5 games North's defensive rating is 3rd. Southern is #1. About a 9% difference in the two.

Take out the Southern game and North have been very stingy. Southern won the battle of O vs D that game.

You're 100% right. If you only count the games a team wins then there can be no doubt that they are the best.

From an outsider's perspective it's kind of hard to follow WTF is going on when every team seems to be called North, South, East and West.

There's a south and a southern who are further south. And centrals who aren’t central and are further north then north. #leagueofourown

Who won the battle of underperforming import guards? Nate Garth or CJ Reed?

i love these posts from a pure comical sense

southern are always "fortunate" or "lucky"
North are always "the best" only loss was "just fell short" (35 points)
West "deep squad"
mavs "wins on the horizon"
norwood "verteran team"

Tigers have been lucky:

Round 1 - facing Sturt without their import. We know now he sucks but at the time it was reasonable to consider that lucky.

Round 2 - played North still missing players & Reed not yet in shape.

Round 3 - played Eastern in Rios' first game.

Round 5 - played Centrals without their best guy.

North defence = communication and trust in that communication

Coaching is the key to North's stingy defense, Hawkes not afraid to apply some pressure himself in the halfcourt!

Martin from centrals out for at least another 2 weeks, gonna be tough for them coming up against the top teams. But did a pretty good job against Southern without him. Jimma Dau with 25 rebounds against a huge Southern frontline is incredible given he's 18 or 19 and a rookie.
And can Rios produce 45 every week on efficient shooting to even keep them in touch with other teams, another great individual performance but leak like a sieve inside, Wise rebounds like Lopez from Lakers.
And how long before DJ heads off, must be soon if he's trying to get in game shape and get as many qualifying games as possible.

West have like 7 guys averaging over 7pts per game it's probably a correct call labelling them deep?
