No Lisch or "money making" Mitch McCarron. Probably due to injury and Euro ventures. Either way not the strongest team I can imagine but should sleepwalk to gold here.

If the Olympics were played during the season NBA and Europe players wouldn't attend.

In fact some players take whole summers off to do nothing instead of play Worlds or Olympics. How selfish of them!!

Selfish only they belong to that pampered group who attended the AIS at public's cost. They sure owe service to the country . Others, the self made players, have NO obligation..and I would too give the bird to BA if I was one of them. It is time service is made obligatory for the AIS/COE attendees.

Very unimaginative team, no young players at all, was to be expected, but three players out off bottom two teams plus Hodgson and Wagstaff it's looking very average and we should still win in a canter. Certainly won't get to many people excited to watch.

Opals squad looks pretty strong, and good to see Magbegor included.

As for the Boomers squad, you can't question the commitment of any of the players and I'm sure they'll represent Australia well ... but it's underwhelming. (I understand the availability issues for the NBA and Euro guys.)

No players under 25 so it's unlikely anyone in this squad has any long-term first-team Boomers potential (maybe there's a small window for Creek or Gliddon over the next couple of years?) I'd be interested to know what Lemanis is hoping to get out of what is, ultimately, a relatively low-stakes tournament.

No Joyce - Batkovic

Lemanjis - No DJ

When will DJ represent his country ?

When there is no Lemanjis

Seriously BA - Time to make some demands on your coaches. Surely it cannot be left to one person. Clearly there has been an issue is the Womens and now a similar scenario for the mens. It is shameful. Yes, shameful.

Seriously look at it without your rose coloured glasses on.

DJ is not a better stretch 4 than Kickert offensively. DJ does not offer the same leadership skills Kickert does.
Both DJ & Kickert struggle on the D end.

Sorry Kickert wins.

Seriously without rose coloured glasses. DJ has out performed DK by some margin. All NBL first team 3 times (voted by coaches) Perhaps the best performed Australian over a 5 year period. Both are very consistent. DK consistently the worst defensive and rebounding big in the league. Consistently the best shooter but very little else.
Very careful with shot selection to protect %. Consistently a very important part of under performing teams since returning to NBL. DJ consistently performing at a high level over a number of years as recognised by his and other coaches. Arguably the best performed road player in the league. Check that out.
Andre can choose who he wants, doesn't change who is the best player. DJ will be performing in big games whilst DK will be putting up some numbers in a very low standard international comp. On another note. Its somewhat embarrassing that Matt Hodgson is the starting centre for Australia.

I'm a Wildcat fan, but seriously Wagstaff and Brandt selected in front of Johnson.

Also, DJ is better than Kay and his back up Centre Hodgson gets selected.

DJ must have taken a dump in the Boomers office or given Lemanis's daughter a neck tat or something because he can't get near the national team. He is OBVIOUSLY better than Hodgson.

AJ Ogilvy used to get snubbed when he was balling out now it is DJ.

"Also, DJ is better than Kay."

The role that DJ would play for the Boomers is the one Kickert is filling. That's DJ's skillset, he isn't a shadow of Kay in terms of the role he plays for the national team.

So if you want DJ in the Boomers, then make a case based on why he's better than Kickert, because there won't be too offensive-minded PFs who are limited defensively selected in the same team.

So how many people whinging here would take time off work to go play in a third rate tournament. Like going to gold coast to play in a div 3 social game, and to go your employers will have to pay insurance and they would be pissed at you for leaving.
Its the Commonwealth games, if we cant beat Tonga without Simmons, Mills, Baynes etc then we shouldn't even be playing.

Just because Australia are going to win the gold shouldn't mean you still don't pick best available, two or three players should not be there starting with Hodgson ahead of DJ,.

1. Wagstaff is the most overrated player I think I've ever seen. Should not be there on skill/what he brings alone. Let alone the fact he has reached his ceiling and is nearly 32.

2. "Just because Australia are going to win the gold shouldn't mean you still don't pick best available, two or three players should not be there starting with Hodgson ahead of DJ,"

Normally, I'd say NZ doesn't have a chance against a full-strength Australian team. But this team? Whilst NZ will lack depth, there's certainly enough there with Corey Webster, Fotu, Pledger, Abercrombie, Vukona and Tai Webster to give this Aus team a run for their money and have a chance.

Canada is sending a young team ... so at least they approach a smaller tournament like this with an eye to the future.

Just a little puzzled as to what can be gained playing a squad of players mostly within the 27 - 35 year age range without a huge amount of upside ...

Andersen is a quality 4/5 who can step out and nail the open 3 pointer, and was just in the thick of an intense GF series. It is hard to find a like-for-like replacement for someone like that. Walker will do I guess.

McCarron, Creek and the rest of the players on the Comm games team are unlikely to make the World champs or Olympic teams when the Euro League and NBA players come back into the fold.

Its almost in their best interest to get to the next level (high level euro or nba) to give them a better shot at making the team for the more important tournaments. They also get paid decent money for taking the opportunities put in front of them.

Anyone giving the likes of Creek and McCarron a hard time for taking attractive options offered to them have no idea on what being a professional athlete with a short time frame to earn a dollar involves.
