Amazing to be the best player on the planet at that age. Not surprised it hasn't happened ever before, probably won't happen again for a while.
He skipped the whole clay season last year too. So he accumulated enough points over 3/4 of the season to be #1. Impressive.

Annoynmous skipping a whole clay court season is risky to be no 1, that means he missed out on like 30% of a chance to gain rankings points, and therefore slipped behind the pack as he'd have to catch up..
Your talking as if it's a smart move, he did it coz he doesn't have the endurance anymore to do a whole season..

That was the point I was making - he missed a lot of potential points yet still has the #1 ranking - that is impressive and shows how dominant he has been over the last 12 months in the tournaments that he has played.
As for whether it's smart or not, well it's hard to complain - he knows he has a much better chance of winning Wimbledon than Roland Garros and hence puts his preparation into that tournament. Last year he won Indian Wells and Miami leading into the clay season so that took a lot out of him and probably made his decision to skip clay easier.
Not sure if he's made an official decision on the clay for this year yet? I'd assume he will see how he goes in this interim period and if he's feeling fresh enough he might give it a crack.
