Wildcats vs 36ers, Feb 2

Great clash this round to help decide home court advantage in the semis? Adelaide are 15-9 and Perth 14-9. Not many games left now!

Can the 36ers surprise the Wildcats in Perth?

There's no surprise for the 36ers to make.

I think the biggest surprise will be if the Wildcats go 2-0. Even 1-1 will be a solid accomplishment.

Adelaide are the form team of the league at the moment.

Wildcats clearly the underdogs in this one!

You're only as good as your last game in this league. Form reversals for both teams last week. If the refs put the wistles away Adelaide's high paced attacking game could stall like the Brisbane game.

If ADELAIDE are serious they will bounce back and win after a loss they shouldn't have had. Perth are terrible and even at home should be vulnerable against decent competition.

If Perth do win then they somehow will be able to say they have form against all logic whilst ADELAIDE will simply be shown up to be pretenders.... again.

Perth playing like craps, still 3rd. Not bad, Adelaide and Melbourne are on fire but will that fire continue to burn in the post season?

Wouldn't be surprised Perth get swept this weekend but it will be different hopefully in the semis.

Hard to go for the 3 peat, I personally still don't think they put the best team together to try. Every other team's upgraded.

Still, wouldn't think both team's will play as hard and give away to much knowing they will meet again.

Home court advantage is massive but I could see both team's winning one game away. Hopefully no injuries and they can look forward when it really matters.

Agreed.

I think some of their decisions were a bit misguided this season. Last season I thought they should have been recruiting to replace Knight. I didn't believe he could play out the season.

Dex and Clint are so similar, I don't see the point in having both, and there is no opportunity for either of them to get involved.

Kenny seems to have suitable skills, but trigger shy. Also doesn't seem to back himself to put the ball on the floor. At times his presence just puts more pressure on others to produce.

If Walker and Tokoto are not hitting from range, and Martin doesn't want to shoot, then it makes things awkward for Cotton to score from the perimeter, and creates issues for spacing in the paint for others. Poorly reffed illegal defense also causes timing issues reaching openings or cutting off ball.

Brandt has plenty to like, but IMO, lacks versatility in post moves, and insufficient range. He seems to not handle even single coverage from the really strong defenders. I think recently he has been caught out with some cheap off ball fouls. IMO, these are some of the problem areas for NBL refs, but I think he would benefit from learning how to manage entanglement around the rim a bit better.

Cotton seems to be the only player to provide reliable dribble penetration, but IMO lacks the physique to consistently finish in traffic, particularly if other players can't space the defenders.

Anyway, it has been nice watching Adelaide and Melbourne. Unfortunately the Breakers have slipped in form a little.

Perth needs to allow Kenny to be far more aggressive then what he is allowed to be under Trevor. Kenny has a very good shot on him and is a underrated slasher towards the basket.

Are you sure that is due to the coach? I thought from his body language he appears hesitant to pull the trigger. Fearless players just seem to shoot with rhythm, whereas he seems to question his shot, and waste shot clock just pondering options at times.

They really should have upgraded from DC. And Clint has been disappointing... a shooter who hasn't been hot at all lately.
Walker's game has gone off which means they rely heavily on Brandt as inside presence. Cooke is lacking offensively and the defence just sags off him, further clogging the paint.
They really need some more shooters and penetration. Tokoto seems to be exposed and there's ever more pressure on Cotton to perform.
I see Adelaide sweeping.

Now I got something to say.

Coaches and players complain about referees being poor communicators, but a) do they have an obligation to talk to those who disagree with their calls? And b) players and coaches are seldom reasonable in their interactions, so why should refs get bashed for failing to communicate properly. Rather than argue a call, do your job and keep playing/coaching.

Trevor is such a pig on the sidelines. Joey not much better.

J - Majok stepped up to Wagstaff due to Wagstaff holding him, currently called delay of game and moved on. He's been called for fouls on two cleans blocks and just got called for a foul when put in a headlock. Refs should be apologising to Majok.

Gleeson wanting the points to count after the brawl says it all about him. He failed to contain his team long after the game was won, and had morons like Cooke out there who kept ratcheting up the niggle off the ball.

Anyone could see the tension and bad blood building in the second half. An ugly incident like that was bound to happen if the game went on long enough, and unfortunately it happened with less than 1 second left. Cooke joking on the sidelines while the brawl was being reviewed and replaying Kernich-Drew's hit. Just shocking behaviour from Perth.

Not going to bother reading all the reactions BUT as much as the Wildcats are full of very hate worthy individuals and the overall commentary is a pornhub convention for the Cats, Adelaide have to 100% figure what the fuck that 5min burst to start the 3rd was all about. Dont let the drama the pushing and shoving get in the way of a very fragile looking team that came out in the 3rd with little to no tactical variation.

Adelaide SHOULD win it all, but not if you allow a pretty ordinary Perth team to do that. Wagstaff going for 25 is disgusting.

Jumping into a first gamer like that with 1 second to go and your team down 20 would have to be one of the most gutless things I have seen in the NBL. Teys is supposedly setting the standard for his team as captain. Hopefully he looks at it and sees it for the coward act it was.

As for the game result: Perth played a great game. Adelaide we're a bit lazy after the break when they should have been standing on Perths throat (no joke meant considering the fight).

As for the refs: how do they 1: completely miss what is right in front of them or 2: completely misinterpret what is right in front of them?

I'm not calling bias either. Just more substandard reffing in a league that deserves better.

No, they do it because it's part of the culture. NBL coaches have been abusing and complaining at and about refs since 1979. The fans have been abusing and declaiming the standard of refereeing just as long.

I continue to think that it comes back to the overly complex nature of the game's rules and the variable interpretations placed on similar plays according to contextual factors. The debates on this forum, with rulebooks at 20 paces, have just re-inforced my views on this, over the years.

Sniper Teys setting a great example for his team. Perhaps frustrated by his zero point, 1 rebound, 2 turnover, 3 foul return from just under 8 minutes on the court. What he did was not actually a whole lot different to what Childress did a few years ago, although he didn't go for the throat.

Such is the courage of Teys that there is no way he would have done that had it been any of the established Wildcats players with the ball.

Why is it that the emotion between Perth and Adelaide generally spills over when Adelaide are losing?

A number of reports have been made following last night's game between the Perth Wildcats and Adelaide 36ers at Perth Arena.

Adelaide's Brendan Teys and Perth's Dexter Kernich-Drew were both reported for unduly rough play arising from an incident in the fourth quarter.

Adelaide's Shannon Shorter and Perth's Lucas Walker were reported for leaving their benches during the same incident in the fourth quarter.

Majok Deng, Nelson Larkins, Anthony Drmic, Mitch Creek and Shannon Shorter (Adelaide) and Dexter Kernich-Drew, Clint Steindl and Jarrod Kenny (Perth) were all reported for engaging in a melee.

The reports will be now reviewed by the NBL Game Review Panel and any charges will be announced by 6pm Sunday

Larkins charged into Walker shoulder first in an attempt to "block out" even though Walker was not in a rebounding position. Walker sidestepped to avoid the contact and helped Larkins along as they met, with Larkins momentum sending him past Walker and down. If Walker had thrown Larkins down it would have been a more serious incident. Larkins initiated the contact which was unnecessary. Walker had avoided any hard contact and should have just let Larkins fall by himself.

Brandt unsportsmanlike is mind boggling. Trying to diffuse a situation to get on with the game, he was not the one being confrontational.

Walker foul was definite there, no one bats an eye when 2 bigs do that, which happens every game. He over reacted. Little guy had to box out hard due to the weight difference, but the motion is nothing new to the nbl, just too much force.

A couple of things about the fight. The league should not fine or suspend anyone because everyone not just basketball people are talking about it and will tune in to the game tomorrow so the exposure for the nbl is huge.

Secondly teys is one of the worst players in the league so it's only natural to try and contribute to the team in other ways.
